The art element that describes the darkness or lightness of a color

Value

• The amount of light a color reflects determines its color value

Yellow is the lightest hue because it reflects the most light

Violet is the lightest hue because it reflects the least light

White objects reflects all color waves and so you are seeing the color of light, which is white

Black objects absorb all of the color waves and so you are seeing the absence of light, which is black

Value

• Tint– A light value of a hue – Hue mixed with white

• Shade– A dark value of a hue– Hue mixed with black
