Chatter with Cathy
Didn’t you just love Rose Morgan? What an inspiration and her quilts
were amazing. Her choices of fabric just made her quilts sing. Many
thanks to Gloria and her committee for all the amazing speakers we
have had. Our programs have been informative as well as entertain-
ing. We have a wonderful venue, too. One of the good things about
our hall is the acoustics. We use a mic but it is not always necessary
unless more than one person is speaking at a time. Unfortunately,
there is more speaking going on besides the speaker during our pro-
grams. Please let’s try to be considerate of the presenter and not chat
with our friends so that all members can enjoy the wonderful infor-
mation being shared. I, just like everyone, like to spend time with my
friend members and catch up but the time to do that is before the
meeting or during refreshment break. Thanks for your consideration
of the presenters and your understanding. Silence is golden. Enjoy
the spring weather and keep on quilting.

April 16, 2019 Guild Meeting
Ann Holte will speak about the Lancaster Diamond Quilt, which she
fell in love with and has been studying since 2009. Ann said that this
quilt will remind us why we got into quilting in the first place. She will
have many of her products available for us to buy including her most
recent book entitled Quilts of Valor. The proceeds from the sale of
Quilts of Valor go to the Quilts of Valor Foundation.
May 20, 2019 Guild Meeting
Flying geese blocks have been a favorite of quilters for generations.
Sarah Bond has taken that block to new heights. By "releasing" those
geese, she opened up a whole new world for those of us who love
quilting. While Sarah's quilts reflect those of her grandmother, they
are quite unique. Sarah teaches at many local quilt shops including
her own studio. Which design would you like to make first: Release
the Geese, Mini Release the Geese, Pickle Dish, Lone Star, or Tiger
Melon? Whichever design you choose, you can be sure that it won't
be your last Sarah Bond creation. Come hear her lecture at our May
meeting entitled THESE ARE MY GRANDMOTHER'S QUILTS.

Fat Quarter Raffle - Batiks
Have you brought in batik fat quarters? It’s not too late.
The drawing is at the April meeting. Imagine the beautiful
quilt you could make if (when?) you win.

What’s happening in October?
Our guild yard sale is the answer. Here is an opportunity
to clear out those ‘quilty’ patterns, books, notions, fabric,
etc. that you no longer want and make some money in
the process. A table will still cost $10 and you keep all
your proceeds. The time has been changed to 9:00 a.m.
to 12 noon. More information to follow.
Quilts have brought me many wonderful things. But the most precious one is many wonderful friendships.

Angels in Gumboots – Healing Hearts
We have read of the devastation in New Zealand. Two women in New Zealand are collecting 6 ½”
(6” finished) blocks to make quilts for the survivors and families. Joann Kirschenmann will be
collecting blocks at our April guild meeting to send to these women. Avoid red hearts and prints
with animals, people/figures/faces; otherwise any color is fine. Applique should have a ½“
border. www.facebook.com/angelsingumboots/posts will get you to the site and you will need
to scroll down to see more information and a possible pattern although you are not limited to
that pattern. Please bring one or more heart blocks to give to Joann to show our support. This
is a one month project.

Local Quilt Shows
Katagami: The Japanese Stencil through July 28, 2019. At the Allentown Art Museum at 31 North
Fifth Street, Allentown, PA. The Japanese have printed fabric for centuries using katagami, hand
carved mulberry paper stencils. These stencils’ intricate designs and bold style amazed the European
and American artists who encountered katagami at the turn of the century. Many became collectors
and drew inspiration from these stencils—including architect Frank Lloyd Wright, whose library from
the Little House is on view at the Museum. This selection of katagami from the collection highlights
their appealing designs and cross-cultural history. For more info visit

The Sew Free Club
We had an outstanding show and tell at our
March meeting. This was the first show and
tell of our new club and there were many
beautiful wall hangings and pillows. The next
two assignments are a fabric basket and the
popular Moda Love Quilt pattern. This is a
great opportunity to use scraps, try some
different fabrics, and sew up a few gifts. Our
March speaker, Rose Morgan, talked about
using a variety of fabrics. She also talked
about taking your time making your fabric
selections; there is no need to rush. I think
she gave suggestions that we can all use. The
May meeting will be the next reveal from our
talented club members😊

The Golden Rule
Have you had problems hearing our speaker and
members giving you information? Perhaps it is
the chatting and whispering of members. Re-
member, friends, it is kind and considerate to
listen and keep your conversation for other

Welcome Benita Holden
Benita Holden searched the web, found us, and visited with her friend Gigi. Benita has been busy
sewing for 47 years. The list of her accomplishments is amazing from sewing for weddings, making
cheerleading uniforms, and field props for band to interior design. She makes and sells custom
quilts, t-shirt quilts, and memory quilts for clients. She favors color, design, and piecing. She also
likes to hike in the forest, leads a Bible study, and is very involved in therapy dog programs. She
works as a high school secretary.
Welcome Lisa Lombardo
Lisa heard about us through a friend. She has been quilting since the 1990s when her sister-in-law
encouraged her to take a beginner’s class at the Country Quilt Store in Montgomeryville. She
enjoys making quick quilts since she works full time as a business analyst in a software company and
is busy hiking, biking, reading, and traveling.
