An excellent opportunity has arisen for a registered Nurse (Mental Health) who has proven track record of leadership and management experience to join the Senior Mental Health Nursing Team in Fife.

This is an exciting time for mental health nursing and as a visible clinical leader you will support opportunities for service redesign and transformational change in line with the objectives within the NHS Fife Clinical Strategy, Health and Social Care Strategic Plan and the professional priorities for nursing.

With operational line management responsibility you will support the delivery of high standards of safe, effective and person centred care within a robust framework of clinical, financial and staff governance. A priority for this role is to support co-production and engagement of both the workforce and service users in developing services. This will involve being proactive in working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary colleagues across health, social care, independent and voluntary sector to facilitate partnership working to deliver high quality mental health services in Fife. An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a resourceful non medical / independent prescriber to join the team, in delivering exceptional care to patients within Addiction Service. As part of continued improvement and developments of the service, we are now seeking to appoint an individual with leadership skills and the ability and commitment to work as part of a growing team, delivering high standards of patient centred care.

You should also possess a good clinical knowledge with evidence of continuous professional development, excellent interpersonal skills and a desire to contribute to quality improvements. The ability to influence change and deliver safe, effective, evidenced based care is crucial.

Working closely with the Team Leader, you will have shared responsibility for the daily management, supervision and professional development of the nursing team within a defined team. ICASS (Integrated Community Assessment & Support Service) has the overall aim of improving the quality of care and outcomes for older people with the intention of allowing them to remain independent within their own homes or communities.

Nurse Practitioners work effectively as senior members of the Hospital at Home Team within ICASS ensuring the delivery of high quality, clinically effective care, utilising a high level of clinical skills and knowledge.

We are seeking skilled staff to join our established Hospital at Home service within the East Division. You will be required to deliver a high standard of safe and effective acute medical patient care within patient’s homes and must have the ability to work autonomously in this evolving service.

You should have a clinical decision making qualification at degree level or above. This should include the ability to work autonomously as a Nurse Practitioner as well as having clinical skills including venepuncture, ECG, IV additives and cannulation. A non-medical prescribing qualification would be desirable but not essential; however, it would be a requirement to undertake this in the future.

In line with the national arrangements for pay and banding of trainees, this post is open to suitable individuals who can demonstrate an ability to develop in to the role of Nurse Practitioner following the successful completion of a structured academic and in-house training programme.

Individuals who meet the full requirements of a Nurse Practitioner role will commence on Band 6 pay scale. Those applicants who are interested in developing in to the role, following the successful completion of academic qualifications, will commence on Band 5 pay scale in line with Agenda for Change Annex 21 (pay and banding of trainees). On successful completion of this programme you will transfer on to the Band 6 pay scale.

You will have good communication skills and have a flexible attitude to work. The ability to travel within the area in a timely manner is essential.These posts involve flexibility to work over a 7 day period, working shifts covering the period from 08.00 – 22.00 hours

Successful completion of this programme will enable you to register on the specialist part of the NMC register which is essential to being a health visitor. The service is delivered Fife-wide, therefore having the ability to travel throughout Fife in a timely manner is essential. First level registration is required and an interest, knowledge and understanding of addictions / mental health with co morbid issues would be desirable. This is a 1 year, fixed term post, designed to allow the opportunity to build skills in the generality of surgery and with specific experience in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery. What is Flying Start?The Flying Start NHS® programme is a self-directed, web-based development programme for all newly qualified Nurses, Midwives and Allied Health Professionals (AHP) working within NHS Scotland, who are in their first year of practice.

Flying Start was produced by NHS Education for Scotland (NES) in 2006 and developed in line with research findings that confirmed that a period of preceptorship bridges the theory-practice gap and supports recruitment and retention.

It provides self-directed learning through ten learning units. You select activities most appropriate to your learning needs and area of work. These are:

What are the expectations within NHS Fife for Flying Start?There is an expectation within NHS Fife that staff should complete two thirds the activities as close to the initial twelve month period as possible. The ten learning units correspond with the Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF). This provides a structure against which the newly qualified practitioner (NQP) can formulate their Personal Development Plan (PDP) and support their progression through the KSF foundation gateway.

What support is available for me?Every individual is responsible for registering on the website, getting started and working through the programme, however:

You will be allocated a mentor, who will offer you support, feedback and guidance during your first year in practice.

The Newly Qualified Practitioner Flying Start ‘Rolling Programme’ is offered throughout NHS Fife by the Practice & Professional Development Department (Nursing and Midwifery Practice Education Facilitators and the AHP Practice Education Lead). These 4 sessions offer you support and guidance about getting started and progression through Flying Start, as well as putting you in touch with other practitioners participating in the programme.

Muiredge surgery is a well-established practice situated on the Fife coast, 10 minutes’ drive from Kirkcaldy and approximately 30-35 minutes’ drive from Dundee and Edinburgh.

EXCITING SECONDMENT OPPORTUNITY

If you have well developed skills and experience in working with people who are experiencing homelessness, this could be an exciting career development opportunity for you to develop these skills within the community.

The NHS Fife Intervention Project is a highly innovative 18 month programme to test a new approach to providing services in NHS Scotland hospitals for those patients who are homeless. The project will be managed by Shelter Scotland and is supported by a multi-agency Steering Group led by Fife Council Housing Services and the Fife Health and Social Care Partnership. The key aims of this project are to:

improve working links between health and housing services provide homeless individuals with the right support to improve their health outcomes reduce the re-admission rates among this cohort evaluate the preventative value of this approach in reducing pressures on NHS

Emergency Departments in Scotland.

The project will employ 2 staff and be run from Victoria NHS Hospital in Kirkcaldy, Fife . There will be close partnership working with hospital staff to engage patients who are identified as having insecure housing. Workers will follow a five-stage process to engage with the patient, undertake an immediate crisis response, work with them to identify key goals, put this into action focused on helping the person to develop skills and resilience, and finally support them to move on.

The project will focus on emergency admissions at VHK and Out of Hours. The target group will be individuals of any age and families who are homeless or at immediate risk of homelessness. This project will be evaluated by Healthcare Improvement Scotland, who will work alongside the staff team in identifying outcomes and learning.

A key aim of this project is to share learning and build capacity with key stakeholders across Fife. Applications are thus being sought from staff in Fife Council Housing Services and NHS Fife who are interested in being seconded to staff the project. Key skills required include: needs assessment; experience of casework or care/support planning & delivery; experience of collaborative working. A significant programme of staff training and development will be a feature of this project.
