System OverviewThe AGA TC3 can be controlled remotely via the mobile phone network. Commands can be sentdirectly in the form of text messages or a website can be accessed and commands sent via a choiceof buttons presented on the website. Website access can be via a web browser or by use of adedicated phone ‘app’.

The commands allow the user to switch any individual oven or all three ovens on, or alternativelyswitch all ovens and hotplates off. Please note that the hotplates cannotbe switched on remotely.

The commands will only work if the AGA TC3 is ‘ON’ and the ‘Standby’ button illuminated green. Please read the AGA TC3 Users Guide for more information ‘ON/Standby’.

Operation is totally dependent on the ‘network’. A good signal for the Remote Access Device (RAD) isrequired and must be checked by the Installation Engineer.

If necessary a GSM signal strength meter must be used, especially in a low signal area. This must beused to locate the optimum site when using the optional high gain aerials in low signal areas.

SoftwareThe AGA TC3 controls require new software to work with the Remote Access Device (RAD). Checkstatus of the appliance via the serial number prior to retro-fitting to an older appliance.

In addition, you can check software level as follows:-

1. Main boards which have a yellow IPA sticker. 2. Main PCB with 111EL_4Rf_40 id number, touch panel PCB’s with 111TU00_3Ra_30 or newer

versions of either.3. Using SiteVision check software level on main PCB should be [ECBF] or a newer version.

Important NoteThe remote access facility is not designed for use as a cook timer. It is important to note that cookedor uncooked foodstuffs should never be left in a cold AGA TC3 oven either for storage purposes or inanticipation of cooking. Food should not be placed into a AGA TC3 oven until the oven has reachedits normal operating temperature. Neither should the ovens be used to store cooking utensils as theymay hinder correct warm up of the oven when it has been switched on remotely, or via the AGA TC3programmer.

Connecting the Remote Access Device (RAD)to the AGA TC3l The Remote Access Device (RAD) replaces the RF unit in the controls tray. The RF unit becomes

redundant and so the AGA TC3 handset will therefore need to be synchronised with the Remote Access Device (RAD) after connection.

Connection

1. The lead from the Remote Access Device (RAD) plugs into the same port as the present RF unit.

LOCKING NUT

2. The RF unit should be left in place for possible future use.

3. The Remote Access Device (RAD) aerial needs to be aligned in the vertical position. Note that it willbe attached to the Remote Access Device (RAD) but free to rotate. Once aerial is in correctposition, carefully tighten the locking nut JUST finger tight.

CARE NOTE: DO NOT TIGHTEN using the aerial as a lever, this could damage the solderedmounting point.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The SIM card in the Remote Access Device (RAD) MUST not be removed.

Set-up

1. Each Remote Access Device (RAD) has a unique identifying number (ID) located on the rear face.

Ring the Technical Service department on the engineer’s number (0845 293 6291). Using theRemote Access Device (RAD) ID number Technical Services will activate the SIM card. This takes approximately 15 minutes, but may take longer.

2. Once SIM activation is confirmed by Technical Service they will provide you with the Remote AccessDevice (RAD) SIM phone number for the customer, there is a space in the AGA iTotal Control UserGuide to record the phone number.

3. Turn on power at the mains and turn on the appliance at the Touch panel ‘ON/Standby’ button.

4. The Remote Access Device’s LED’s should light up as described below.

Checking the Remote Access Device (RAD) isworking and assessing signal strengthl Once the Remote Access Device (RAD) Red LED is blinking it is connected to the network. If the

blink is every 2-3 seconds that means you have sufficient signal strength

l Try moving the Remote Access Device (RAD) to the desired location (cupboard, wall etc) and makesure the Red LED blink is blinking every 2-3 seconds. If the Red LED blink is noticeably slower at every 6-8 seconds then the signal strength is too weak in the Remote Access Device’s (RAD’s)current location. You will have to reconsider its position. (if you can not get a strong signal anywhere,hi-gain antenna are available).

l If the signal strength is good send a text message to the remote access device e.g. ‘Roast Oven On’ and watch the AGA TC3’s response, it should follow the command and text back a confirmation message (if this does not work check the trouble shooting section in this document).

l The use of the app or website requires the customer to register the Remote Access Device’s (RAD’s) SIM phone number (see AGA iTotal Control Users Guide, pages 6 - 10).

l Assuming an account has been set up and verified on www.agatc.co.uk for the RemoteAccess Device’s SIM card you will be able to check the app or website functionality.

l If possible log on to www.agatc.co.uk or use the app and login using the username andpassword that has been set up for the Remote Access Device (see User Guide if unsure).

l Send a command via the app or website e.g. ‘All Ovens On’ .

l If the direct text or app/website do not seem to work (check the trouble shooting section in this document).

The Remote Access Device (RAD) is workingand now needs to be fixed in place.l Having identified a suitable location for the Remote Access Device (RAD), based on signal strength

and aesthetics the unit can now be fixed into position.

l The Remote Access Device (RAD) comes with screws and rawl plugs for mounting. The Remote Access Device (RAD) has keyhole slots on the back to hook the Remote Access Device (RAD) ontothe screws that are fixed in position.

l The cable connecting the Remote Access Device (RAD) should run through a 13mm hole (that maypre-exist or may require drilling) through the front of the EL controls tray. The cable gland should be used to protect the cable and create a 90° bend for the cable routing behind the new magneticplinth. Alternatively the cable can be run through the rear of the AGA TC3 existing grommet. Anadditional 3mm hole will also need to be drilled to mount the terminal block used to join the link cable from the EL board to the Remote Access Device (RAD).

3mm hole to be drilled. Use:-

M3 x 25 Pan Head Metric MachineScrew (1-off)

M3 x 0.5 Metric Nut Z/P (1-off)

To fix the terminal block to the ELcontrol tray.

l There are new magnetic plinths to allow the cable to exit from the tray front and then either side ofthe AGA TC3 to the Remote Access Device (RAD). If the cable exits from front and the cable isobvious separate side plinths and front plinth is available.

l Run the cable in the best route available to the desired position of the Remote Access Device (RAD)e.g. through a cupboard up the wall.

l The cable is only low voltage 12v dc and can be disconnected from the connector block to allow cable to be fed through small holes. Do not disconnect while product is powered at the mains.
