Rapidly Under Existing Conditions SEW YORK Sept 11 Work upon the Florida East Coast Hallway between Miami and Key West the ultimate terminal of the road Is progressing rapidly anti pres- ent estimates have it that the road will be completed early in 1910 The most difficult sections have been con- structed and the work now going on over the last section between Knights Key and Key West miles is in the nature of a general finishing up The entire extension from Miami to Key West a distance of lVi miles Is a unique and expensive structure some sections of it having cost as much as 900000 per mile The first thirty miles of road are laid over a rocky ridge known as the Biscayne Pineland at the end of which is Homestead a small town which since 190 has been the terminal of the road from Jacksonville From Home- stead the line passes out upon solid keys of coral to and across Key and the several keys to the southwest Long Island Windleys Key and Up- per Matecumbe on to Long Key Ker Yaccas Knights Key Bahia Honda a long line of smaller nameless keys reaching to Dig Pine Key and from there to Key West In all the l 0 miles of extension Include six miles of solid concrete viaduct eightyone miles of embankment which conveys the tracK at a height of thirty feet above mean low water level and eight fixed and two draw bridges the lat- ter permitting a wide passage In thirty feet West have been bettered and enlarged and the Panama canal opened t traffic the quantity of freight hauled over the Florida East Coast line wlllbe determined practically bj the physical capacity of the road Until such time It Is believed that the present steadily accruing traffic and the winter tourist traffic will be a considerable source of reve nueThe legal passenger fare as in the charter of the urday afternoon near Old Town on the Suwannee river when the man who was with a pay of friends on a fishing trip f ll over- board from the launch Uelng unable- to swim he sank li mediately never rose again the swift crrcnt keeping him under His companions seeing him fall and realizing that he was unable to swim immediately set to work in an effort- to save him Long poles were with the view of extending them should he rise to the surface but without avail as nothing was seen of him after he sank for the first time The body had not been recov- ered up to Sunday night Deceased was forty years of age and leaves a family s wife and four children He was a of C C Doke of Trenton and the nympathy of the community goes out to the be- reaved family to whom the victim was devoted AT THE CHURCH- Dr Tribble of Columbia College De- livered Two Fine Sermons Sunday The congregation at the First Bap- tist church Sunday both morning and evening had the pleasure of hearing two of the ablest sermons ever from the pulpit of that edifice these services both being presided- over by Dr H W Tribble of Lake City president of Columbia College who kindly consented to give the Saptl U a day here The attendance was not as large as was hoped for but those who did go heard two most Interesting Discourses The pastor recently called Rev Dr Cloar will arrive In time to conduct the services next Sunday
