TRANSCRIPT
Project Goal
To create a social community platform that develops richer engagement between the user, Booklover communities and their local Dymocks store.
COnClUSIOn• Female
• Age: between 30 - 45
• Education: Degree or higher
• Income: above average
nOTESAs I used my personal contacts using Dymocks’ database to do the research would be more accurate
Demographics
DISCOVERY
Reading Habits
COnClUSIOn• Printed books are still preferred over
ebooks. People like the feel and touch of a real book.
• Read every moment they can.
nOTES• This is useful when I get to designing the look
and feel of the app. The visual design would need to keep the organic feel of a real book.
• Passionate readers
DISCOVERY
Shopping Habits
COnClUSIOn• More and more people are buying book
online as it’s cheaper.
• The same people will however buy a book on impulse if they really want it straight away.
nOTES• The app would need to give something back
to the user not just a e-commerce platform as Dymocks can’t compete with online prices.
• Buying a book would need to be very obvious and quick
DISCOVERY
Discovering
COnClUSIOn• Almost everyone said they get
recommendations from their friends.
• People also read blogs, magazine articles, reviews and get recommendations from Amazon/Goodreads to help them decide what book to get.
nOTES• This tells me that a social aspect will play a
critical part in the desirability of the app.
• The appeal for the users is that they’re able to join discussion groups, write reviews & rate books and share with their friends.
DISCOVERY
Cataloguing
COnClUSIOn• From the interviews I discovered that a lot
of people like to collect book, organise them on their bookshelves under various categories
nOTES• The app will need to have a cataloguing
function

Buying scenarioSarah just finished reading a book and is desperate to find her next ‘gold nugget’. She logs on to Booklovers to see what her friends are reading and reads some reviews of people she follows. The ‘Staff Recommends’ tool gives her a list of books she might like based on books she has read and rated. One of the books on the list is the book that she just finished reading. Sarah writes a short review, rates the book, it gets saved automatically in ‘My Library’ and she clicks the share on Facebook button to post a review.
She finally finds a book in a group discussion that sounds really interesting. She considers to buy the book through an overseas site but her ‘Rewards Points’ indicator shows that she’s only a few points away from becoming a Gold Member which will give her extra benefits such as great savings, extra points gained per dollar spent and her profile will sport a shiny gold medallion. She buys the book on Booklover knowing that she’ll have the book in a day or two instead of having to wait for a week or longer.

DESIGn Usability Test: Discovery and review
Sign up button is a bit lost at bottom- Need to make it stand out more
Move Basket out of main page- Not needed here
People didn't really get the 'Add to Wishlist'
Need to re-work 'Buy Now' + 'Add to Basket'
Need to simplify tabs
Need top change label - maybe 'bookshekves'Also need to move from here
This seems a bit unnecessary
Change Wishlist to 'To Read'
No one understood what this was.Need to rethink
I need to create an easy way to add books to 'My Library'
Over all rearange Icons so they work better together.
