CURRICULUM VITAESophie Kuizenga-Wessel werd geboren op 4 mei 1986 te Nijmegen. In 2004 behaalde zij haar VWO-diploma aan het Canisius College te Nijmegen. Het eerste jaar werd zij uitgeloot voor de studie Geneeskunde, waarop zij startte met de studie Rechtsgeleerdheid aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam. Het jaar daarop werd ze nageplaatst en kon ze beginnen met de studie Geneeskunde aan de Vrije Universiteit te Amsterdam. Na het behalen van haar Master in december 2011, kreeg ze de mogelijkheid om in het voorjaar van 2012 te starten met een promotieonderzoek onder leiding van Prof. M.A. Benninga en Prof. C. Di Lorenzo. De eerste 15 maanden van haar onderzoek werkte Sophie in het Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Columbus, Ohio waarna het onderzoek werd vervolgd in het Emma Kinderziekenhuis/AMC te Amsterdam. Tijdens deze onderzoeksperiode, die heeft geresulteerd in dit proefschrift, was zij tevens werkzaam op de Poeppoli van het Emma Kinderziekenhuis/AMC en De Kinder-kliniek in Almere.Sophie is getrouwd met Robert Kuizenga en heeft een dochter Elle.
