About SOUL UTS: SOUL Award facilitates volunteer opportunities for students alongside a series of workshops, seminars and discussion groups that focus on building the skills required for leadership and community development. The Award allows students to gain points and recognition for their participation through three program strands: Why Join? The next generation of leaders will be active citizens who demonstrate social responsibility through compassionate, ethical and sustainable personal action and professional practice. UTS: SOUL Award will provide you with: Leadership training and development Enhanced communication and teamwork skills Hands-on work experience with community and not-for-profit organisations The chance to use your skills and knowledge to benefit the broader community and to make a difference Mentoring opportunities from leaders across diverse industries New networks and friendships with like-minded students Recognition from UTS for your extra- curricular activities A challenge to personal boundaries and enhanced self-awareness A sense of community spirit and active citizenship About UTS Shopfront UTS: SOUL Award is based at the Shopfront. UTS Shopfront acts as a gateway for community access to UTS and supports community organisations and students to collaborate on disciplinary-specific projects. UTS Shopfront is an internationally recognized model of community- engaged research. It supports SOUL through leveraging community networks and providing training through the Shopfront Skills HUB. How does it work? The Award requires 100 points of activity over the course of your degree. One hour is equal to one point unless otherwise stated by the SOUL team. Students receive an award upon completion of the program and participation will be recorded on your academic transcript. Want to join up? How to run a projectThe how-to’s of project management and team work. Learn the basics of scoping a project and the five stages of project planning: why, who, what, how and when.

Fortnightly SOUL hangoutOnce a fortnight SOUL will open up the UTS Shopfront Office for a series of social hangouts with industry and alumni speakers, films, mentoring, advice and snacks.

SOUL team volunteeringJoin in on our team volunteering initiatives with partner community organisations in areas of: disability and aged care; education and mentoring for youth, indigenous, migrant and refugee groups; food security and welfare; sustainability and bush care; arts and wellbeing.

SOUL intensivesOccasional intensives offering skills development to support Shopfront community partners in the areas of documentary photography and social media communications.

SOUL volliesTake ownership of the SOUL program by giving feedback, promoting the Award and shaping its future.

External volunteering experienceSpend time volunteering for a wide range of on and off-campus not-for-profits. Volunteering can be general or more discipline focused.
