Pinterest is a website where users can upload, save,
sort, and manage images - known as pins - and other
media content (e.g., videos and images) through
collections known as pinboards.
Boards can be personal or collaborative, public or
private. You can create as many themed boards as you wish.

• Collect images of the best places to gather for group work
• Collaboratively build a reading list by pinning images of book covers, articles, websites
• Create 'about me' pins for the class
• Create a photo board for the course tutor team

DIIGOhttps://www.diigo.com
Diigo is a social bookmarking website which allows
signed-up users to bookmark and tag web-pages.
Additionally, it allows users to highlight any part of a
webpage and attach sticky notes to specific highlights
or to a whole page.
There is a also a teachers console, where you can set

Collaboratively build a library of resources with links, pages, notes, pictures.

• Build a library of shared resources for the course or module
• Student initiated space for group work projects to save links to research sources
• Utilise group annotations using the Teacher console to collaboratively build a literature review for an assignment
• Use the annotations to critique sources saved

Facebook is a social networking tool that allows
individuals to create personal profiles and 'friend'
others. In addition there is the provision to create
groups which may be open or closed (invite only).
Within groups you don't need to be 'friends' and
members of the group cannot see you personal profile
(unless the settings are public).
Within groups there is the facility to exchange
messages, post status updates and photos, share

PBworks is an example of a wiki tool. Users can create
interconnected pages - think Wikipedia.
The tool allows individuals and groups to capture
knowledge, share files, and manage projects. It tracks
every change, and automatically notifies users.
Multimedia can also be embedded e.g. images, videos, audio.

LinkedIn is a professional networking site where you
can connect to your trusted contacts, exchange
knowledge, ideas and opportunities.
In addition to being a space to share your digital CV
and search for jobs, the social networking affordances
allow users to interact within groups, share and
comment through updates on both individuals and
company pages. The space allow users to meet others
beyond their immediate network, where they can learn

WORDPRESShttps://wordpress.com/
WordPress is an example of a blogging tool. Blog
posts are typically short to medium length entries
which can be written by individuals or collaboratively;
can be private, invite only or public; have the option to
turn on comments (which can be screened).
Multimedia such as video, audio and images can be
embedded in posts.
Blog posts ca be shared via social networks to seek further feedback and discussion.

PEBBLEPADhttp://www.pebblepad.co.uk/
PebblePad is web-based EPortfolio system. Users
can create webfolios (type of webpage) and journal
entries as part of a blog. Videos and Photos can be
imported from YouTube and Flickr. Assets can be
tagged, which allow them to be re-used in different
parts of the software, e.g. the same asset can be part
of a webfolio and a journal.
Users can share the records and assign differential
permissions to view, comment, copy or collaborate.

GOOGLE DOCShttp://go.shu.ac.uk/google
Google Docs, Sheets, Slides and Forms allow users to
create and edit documents online collaboratively with
others in real time and asynchronously. The apps are
available as web applications, as Chrome apps that
work offline and as mobile apps for Android and iOS.
Both staff and students now have access to these tools
which can be used to work independently or
collaboratively: between students or by staff. Access is
through your usual SHU login.

TWITTERhttps://twitter.com/
Twitter is a microblogging tool that allow you to share short
succinct message of up to 140 characters. Within the message
URL links may be included to web pages sharing things like
articles, news stories, videos, podcasts and images.
A hashtag can also be added which is a keyword preceded with
#. Examples of use might include a conference where those
attending include the chosen hashtag e.g. #HEAConf2015.
When users search for that hashtag in the search bar it will pull
together everyone's tweets that contain the hashtag.
It is beneficial to add a bio to your profile so that others can see
your interests and know to connect with you. Make connections with those that interest you

PADLEThttps://padlet.com/
Padlet is a virtual notice board that allows people to
express their thoughts on a common topic easily. It
works like an online sheet of paper where people can
put any content (e.g. text, images or video) anywhere
on the page, together with anyone, from any device.
By default, Padlet Walls are semi-private. What that
means is that when you create a new wall, the address
(or url) is only known to you and not published publicly.
When you share the address with others, either
through email or social networks, the wall can be seen
