• Survey delivered to first year students on a variety of computing based course at NTU.
• Experience was insufficient in supporting them in meeting people and finding places. Some felt that current activities undertaken where of little relevance.
• First point of contact was technology based (website, NOW etc.)
• Participants agreed that an app would be useful during the welcome week events.

• An app making use of NFC tag technology to produce dynamic and interactive maps
• Replacement for some activities, producing a collaborative exercise (e.g. scavenger hunt)
• Become familiar with the campus and peers
• Plan – trial the app during welcome week through measures of engagement and comparison to older activities
Mobile app to aid transition through engagement
