Welcome to Mallard! Mallard is a web-based learning tool where you

will find many of your course activities.

Mallard will be used by all sections of SPAN 102 and SPAN 106.

Mallard is like a workbook that gives you immediate feedback on completed

exercises. Activities in Mallard correspond to activities

in Puntos de Partida and Puntos en Breve.

You can do Mallard work in the Language Lab (Cabell 221), on any

UVA computer, or on your own computer.

If you use a UVA computer outside of the Language Lab, bring your own

headphones.

If you do Mallard work on your own computer, you need to make sure your computer is ready. Your computer will

need Mozilla Firefox, Quicktime and RealPlayer. These can be downloaded

for free at UVA’s Information Technology and Communication webpage: www.itc.

virginia.edu.

If you are working at an off-grounds computer, make sure you have a proxy server account so that the University

servers will recognize you as belonging to the University community. You can set yourself up by going to www.itc.virginia.

edu.

Finally, make sure that you have a copy of the Mallard Manual. This is available on the toolkit page for your

class.

Make sure you click on the correct year and semester!

Type in your User ID (same as your UVA computer ID) and click “Enter”.

Click on the link for the Worksheet or Quiz you want to take.

Each lesson consists of Worksheets and a Quiz. Worksheets are for practice, and Quizzes test your knowledge.

All Mallard Worksheets and Quizzes are due by 5 a.m on the indicated date, before your next class meeting.

Your worksheet will have several Questions in multiple choice, fill in the blank, and matching formats. You will fill them in, click the radio button, or select from the drop down menu your answer.

When you have completed the worksheet, click “Submit for Grading”.

After submitting your answers, Mallard will show you the right and wrong answers.

Mallard gives you your grade. To get credit for a worksheet, you must get at least a 70%, and 60% for a quiz. You may use class notes and your textbook on Mallard worksheets.

You may submit each worksheet up to four times. To retake the worksheet, click on “New Quiz”.

To get credit for a quiz, you must get at least a 60%. You may NOT use class notes and your textbook on Mallard Quizzes!

You may submit each Quiz up to two times. To retake the Quiz, click on “New Quiz”.

use special characters in order to type Spanish characters.

Instructions for creating special characters are found in your Mallard

Manual.
