GradeCam is an online application that grades

assessments using a web or document camera.

• When a GradeCam assessment is moved in front of a web or document camera, GradeCam instantly reads and scores the student responses.

• GradeCam is a classroom tool that can be used by both students and teachers.

What GradeCam can do…

• GradeCam enables true formative assessment and allows educators to get instant feedback on student understanding

• Create a simple multiple choice, answer document for use all year or a simple multiple choice assessment for one time use

• Enable a compatible DataDirector assessment for use with GradeCam

• Use the GradeCam Item Analysis Report as a tool for re-teaching and addressing common misconceptions

What can GradeCam cannot do…

• GradeCam is not the solution for all scanning problems ever encountered

• GradeCam cannot be used without any set-up, activation, or planning

• GradeCam cannot be used at the school or district level – GradeCam can only be enabled for teachers

After printing your GradeCam answer document, you can click New GradeCam Assessment to set up your assessment.

Create a GradeCam Answer Sheet

GradeCam uses its own answer sheet. Click Print Answer Sheet to create your GradeCam answer sheet. Or access your answer sheet from the DataDirector Overview page. Create a generic answer sheet or print answer sheets with pre-populated student IDs.

Enable an Existing DataDirector Assessment

Click Begin Scanning with GradeCam to enable an existing assessment for use with GradeCam.

DataDirector /GradeCam Setup

The following steps must be taken to set-up GradeCam

on an individual computer:

• GradeCam must be enabled in your site

• The GradeCam plugin must be installed on your computer.

• You must configure your GradeCam camera settings

• If you plan to use a GradeBook, you must configure your GradeBook settings

Enable GradeCam

Your Account Manager or Customer Support will enable GradeCam at the site or district level.

GradeCam Camera Settings

All users must configure their camera settings before using GradeCam. Click Admin Tools to configure your camera settings.

GradeCam GradeBook Settings

All users must configure their GradeBook settings before using the GradeBook. Click Admin Tools to configure your GradeBook settings. You can use the GradeBook functionality with your existing GradeBook.

GradeCam Permissions

Once GradeCam is enabled, all teachers will have permissions to create GradeCam assessments by default. School or district administrators cannot use GradeCam. Program users only have access to the programs they have created. They cannot access shared programs.

GradeCam Best Practices

• Open in a GradeCam in a single browser with a single tab. Close all applications using web cameras (i.e. GMAIL, Skype, etc)

• Enter Credit and Score assessment results directly into a grade book

• Assessments enabled for GradeCam must be: – Single-section multiple choice with no virtual sections

– Answer Sheet assessments only

– A maximum of 5 bubble choices – alpha or numeric

– From the current assessment year – remember to change after duplicating

GradeCam Best Practices

• GradeCam will treat double bubbles in the following ways: – GradeCam will not score double bubbles

– GradeCam answer key will not reject double bubbles

– Item analysis will not display double bubbles

– Double bubbles WILL display in DataDirector as double bubbles

– Scoring in DataDirector will not function properly if there are double bubbles

• Ensure Flash is installed on your computer to enable GradeCam capture sound

GradeCam Best Practices

• Ensure students do not use DataDirector navigation while on Student View

• To share a GradeCam assessment with a user, ensure that they have View and Edit permissions.
