Remind your child of some strategies they could use to decode new words: sounding out, using the pictures for clues or reading the rest of the sentence and come back to the word(s) you found tricky.
Ask your child:Is this fiction (a story) or a non-fiction (real) text? How do you know? Who is Daisy? Why does mum want to sell her? Why do both the man and mum think Jack is silly? The story today is called a traditional tale. A traditional tale is a story that was first told a long time ago and is told over and over again until everyone has heard it at least once. A traditional tale sends us a message.The message in this story is ‘Take your time and do your best’.
Before you read/listen to the story what characters can you see on the cover? Read the title with your grown up.When you finished listening, talk about the message the story sends us. Why is the message telling us to slow down?.Can you write a sentence about the message?
