Charging the batteriesPlugtheUSBchargeronthemains,thankstothepowercord.Plugthe5USBcablesontheUSBcharger.

1. Recharge the PIXIO robot.PlugoneoftheUSBcablestotheplug«5VDC»atthebackofthePIXIOrobot.ThecorrespondingredLEDlocatednearthepluglightsupduringtherecharge,andgoesoutwhentherobotischarged.

2 . Recharge the PIXIO micro beacons.PlugUSBcablesineachoneofthemicrobeacons,inthepluglocatedbehindasshown.TheredLEDofthemicro-beaconlightsupduringtherecharge,andgoesdownwhenthemicro-beaconischarged. 1

Set up the PIXIO

1.Screwtherobotonatripodwithastandard3/8’’screw.

2.Screwyourcamera,DSLR,smartphone/tabletadaptortotherobotwiththe1/4’’screwofthePIXIOrobot.

3.Ifyouareusingasupportedmodelofcamera,plugthecameraandtherobotwiththecorrectcable.Thereare3cablemodelsdependingonthecameramodel:

Micro-beacons set upSwitchONeachmicro-beaconbypressingitsbutton untilthegreenlightturnsON.

PlacethePIXIOrobotandthe3beaconsaroundtheareayouwanttofilm, in such a way the beacon n°2 is on the left of the beacon n°1, as seen from the robot� Beaconnumbersarewrittenatthebackofeachbeacon.Itdoesn’tmatterifthebeaconn°3isontheleftorontherightofotherbeacons.ThePIXIOrobotcanalsobeplacedatthemiddleofthe3beacons.Asshownabove,Thedistancebetweenthebeacons,andthedistancebetweentherobotandthebeacons,mustbesmallerthan330ft(100m).Thewatchislocatedbythebeaconsthankstotriangulationtechniques.

Start trackingSwitchONthecamera.

Check that the watch is OFF. Adjust the tripodhorizontally, and switchON the PIXIO robotbyp r e s s i n g attherearoftherobotuntilthegreenlightstartstoflash.

Byrotatingthetripod,orwiththerobotbuttons and ,placethebeaconn°1atthecenterofthecamerascreen.Whatis importantistheright-leftpositionofthebeacon.UsethemanualZOOMonthecameratoimprovetheprecision.It’sOKwithaprecisionofabout50cm(20inches).

YourPIXIOrobotisready!

RemainintheareaandswitchONthewatchbypressingitsbutton until the green light turns ON.Thesysteminitializesduringabout10to30seconds.WhenthewatchLEDisblinkingregularly,theinitialisationisfinishedandtherobotistrackingthewatch.

RecordingIfyouareusingasupportedcameramodel,youcanstart/stoprecordingbypressingBREIFLYthewatchbutton .

ThegreenLEDofthewatchisfullgreenwhenrecordingisrequested.Itisblinkingwhen stop recording is requested. Somedelaymay happenwith effectiverecording,whenthezoomisbusy.

If you are using a camera model which is not supported, you can press «record» on your camera.

Tell PIXIO which camera you are usingWhenusingPIXIO for thefirst time,orwhenchanging thecameramodel,youmustupdatethecameraparameterskeptinthememoryoftherobot. First,downloadthefilethatcorrespondstoyourcameramodelathttp://www.movensee.com/pixio-customer-care-center.

RecordthePIXCAM.cfgfileontherootdirectoryofamicro-SDcard(nonprovided.MustbeformatedwithFAT32format).CheckthatthenameofoffileisPIXCAM.cfgwithoutany...(1)or...(2)attheendofthename.Ifneeded,renamethefilePIXCAM.cfg

Insertthemicro-SDcardintherobotslot.SwithONtherobot(do not press any other button than the switch ON button).AfewquickflashesoftheLEDsoccur,andthefilehasdisappearedfromthemicroSDcard.Theparametersoftherobothavebeenupdatedandstoredinitsmemory.

Camera settingsItisrecommendedtoactivatethe«anti-vibration»featuresofthecamera(called«steadyshot®»forSonycameras),andtode-activatethedigitalzoom.Dependingonwhatyouprefer,checkallparametersrelatedwithimagequalityandsize:16:9isoftenpreferedto4:3;50por60pisbetterforslowmotion;biggestimagesizeandbestrecordingqualitygivebetterresults.BecarefulwiththeenergyeconomyoptionsthatmayswitchoffthecamerawhentheRECisOFFduringalongtime.

Zoom settingsInitialisation of the zoom

WhenyouswitchONthePIXIOrobot,andalsowhenitstartstrackingyou,the(supported)camerazoomsouttotally,andthenzoomsinautomatically.

Personal settings

Whenthetrackingisstarted,youcanmodifytheautomaticzoomleveloftherobot. Just press zoomIN or zoomOUT by successive short pressing. The newsettingsareautomaticallyrecordedforfutureuse.

Thosebuttonsonlyworkwhenthetrackingisstarted,andwhenthezoomisnotblockedinthewidesetting.

Zoom behavior

For quality reasons, the automatic zoomchangeswith small successive increments.When theautomaticzoomisverybusy,acompletezoomoutsometimesoccurs,andthezoomcommandrapidelycomesbacktothenormalvalue.

Advanced settingsMicro-beacons location•Placethebeaconn°1(whichisusedasatargetfortheinitialisation)asfaraspossiblefromtherobot.Itwillimprovetheleft-rightaccuracyofthetracking.

•Checkthattherearedirectlinesofsightbetweenthebeacons,andbetweentherobotandeachbeacon.Oratleastcheckthatanyobstacleissmall.

•Keep the robot, thebeacons,and thewatchatmore than20-30cm (10inches)frommassivemetallicparts.Avoidoperatingnearabigelectricaltransformer,powerfulantenna,etc.

•PIXIOgenerallyworksverywelleveninthepresenceofmetal,suchasmetallicwalls.Justputthebeaconsatmorethan20-30cm(10inches)fromthewalls.

•Thebestheightforthebeaconsis1to2m(3to6ft)fromtheground.

•Setthebeaconperpendiculartotheground

•CheckthatthebeaconsareONandthelightisfullgreen.

•Thepositionsofthebeaconsareveryflexible,buttrackingandaccuracyarebetterwithproperconfiguration

Lock screws for heavy camerasYoucanlocktheTILTaxisbytighteningthe2screwsaparttherotationaxisasshownbelow.Youcanuseanhexagonalscrewdriverwithdiameter2.5mm.Donotexceedatorqueof2Nm.

ReleasethescrewsinordertoreleasetheTILTrotation.

Tighten the 2 screws of theTILTaxis if youneed to locktheTILTforaheavycamera.

Film from an elevated locationPIXIOcanbeusedtofilmfromanelevatedlocation.JustsettheTILTaxiswiththescrewattherearoftheTILTaxis,andchosethedistancebetweenthecameraandtheareayouwanttofilm,asshownbelow.Withappropriatesettings,theauto-zoomkeepsyouintheframe.

The best settings depend on the configuration of the premises, of the auto-zoom level, and of the kind of framing you prefer. So there is no hard and fast rule for those settings.

How to restrict the rotation of the robot (useful when an external device is plugged to the robot) ?

Youmayneedtoconnectanexternalequipment(streamingdongle,charger,etc.)totherobotorthecameraduringoperation.Topreventthecablesfromwrappingaroundtherobot,youcanrestricttherotationoftherobotto+/-180°fromtothebeaconn°1thankstoanadjustableoptioninthePIXIO_Remoteapplication.

1� Start the pairing

Checkthatalldevices(robots,watchesandbeacons)areOFF.

PressandholdthezoomINbuttononthemasterrobot,thenpressbriefly

Release the zoomINbuttonwhenthegreenandredligthsblinktogether.

Themasterrobotentersintothepairingmodeandthegreenlightflashestwiceintermittently.DonotturnOFFthemasterbeforepairingalldevices.

Youmustpairat leastonewatchand3beacons to themaster. You can pair additionalrobots(slaves)andadditionalwatches.

Pairing procedure : pair your devices (robots, watches and beacons)

- if you have a single robot and several watches, your robot will become the master.- if you have several robots, you have to choose one to become the master.

While filming, the master robot should always be ON. The master collects data from the other devices to run MULTI-USER mode.

2� Pair a device (robot, watch or beacon) to the master

The master robot must be running in pairing mode to pair a new device (see the previous paragraph).

Topairanewdevice(slaverobot,watchorbeacon),startthedevicecloserthan1meter(3ft)fromthe master robot.Thegreenlightofthedeviceblinks4timesintermittelyoncethepairingiscompleted.

Youmustrestartallthedevicebeforestartingthetracking.

Thepairingissavedforfutureuse.

MULTI-USER operation

1� Multi watches tracking

All devices must be paired together to be able to run into the MULTI-USER mode (see the «Pairing procedure : pair your devices (robots, watches and beacons)», page 18).

TurnOFFallwatches.FollowthePIXIOsetupprocedurepage19,untilthebeginningofthetracking(page19).ThePIXIOrobotstartstotrackthefirstwatchON.

Oncethetrackingbegins,turnONtheadditionalwatchesbypressingthe button.Thegreen lightofeachwatchstartstoblink.Theblinkingisslowifthereisnoremotecontrolconnectedtothedevice.

If there is no remotecontrolconnected,press the buttonofawatch tobe trackedandfilmed.Thelightisfull greenwhenthewatchisfilmed.Stoprecordingbypressingthe buttonagain.Thegreenlightflasheswhenthecameraisnotrecording.

2� Multi robot tracking

Byrotatingthetripod,orwiththerobotbuttons and , place the beacon n°1 at the center of each camera screen.Whatisimportantistheright/leftpositionofthebeacon.UsethemanualZOOMonthecameratoimprovetheprecision.It’sOKwithaprecisionofabout50cm(20inches).

YourPIXIOrobotsareready!

If it is the first time that your smartphone or tablet is used with your PIXIO, or if another smartphone/tablet has been used with the robot:turnONtherobot,then brieflypressthebuttonontherearoftherobot.Abluelightstartsblinkingrapidly.Duringoneminute,yourrobotisreadytobeconnectedwithyoursmartphone.

Launchthe«Pixio_Remote»App.Activatebluetoothonyoursmartphone.Connectthebot0bypressing .

Use your phone as a remote controlRecord ON/OFF:whenaremotecontrolispaired,theRECorderssentbythewatchesareignoredandthelightofthewatchblinksasfollows:

Use the buttonontheApptostartandstopthevideorecordingforeachcamera.

Auto Zoom:tapontomodifytheframeoftheautomaticzoom.Manual Zoom:tapontomodifytheframeofthecamera.Onmanualzoommode,therobotDOESNOTzoomINandOUTautomatically.

Auto Track:therobotautomaticallyturnsright&lefttofollowthewatch.Manual Track: use the slider toturntherobotontherightorontheleft.

Brightness: use the curser toincreaseorreducethebrightnessofthelightsofthewatchandbeacons.

Selection of the tracked TAG:oneachrobotmenu,tapon to select the watchtrackedbytheselectedrobot.

Where do I get the mechanical interface to allow smartphone and tablet to be used for filming ?You need a common adaptor between Pixio and thesmartphoneortablet.Itisgenerallycalled«smartphone/tablettripodadaptor».Itcostsafewdollarsandcanbefoundeasily.
