The Mygo Seating System has beendesigned to offer a high level of posturalpositioning while enabling function and mobility. This manual shows how youcan quickly, easily and safely make useof all the functions. The instructions onsafety and maintenance will ensure thatyou will enjoy the use of this product fora long time.

1. Intended UseThe Mygo Seating System is an activitychair which has been designed forchildren with disabilities aged 4-12 for useat home, in the school environment oroutside, if used on a mobility base. Theseating system has a maximum userweight of 50kg (110lbs). The seatingsystem is modular and can be used with achoice of indoor or outdoor chassis. TheHi low chassis has been designed for useindoors but can also be used outdoors ona level surface. The Hi low chassis shouldnever be exposed to the elements as thismay corrode the metal components.

The Mygo seat unit will interface with arange of mobility bases, the details ofwhich can be found at our website,www.leckey.com

2. Declaration of ConformityJames Leckey Design Ltd as manufacturerwith sole responsibility declares that theMygo Seating System conforms to therequirements of the 93/42/EEC Guidelines,Medical Device Regulations 2002 andEN12182 Technical aids for disabledpersons and test methods.

3. Terms of WarrantyThe warranty applies only when theproduct is used according to the specifiedconditions and for the intended purposes,following all manufacturers’recommendations (also see general termsof sales, delivery and payment). A twoyear warranty is provided on all Leckeymanufactured products and components.

1. Always read instructions fully before use.

2 Users should not be left unattended atany time whilst using Leckey equipment.

3. Only use Leckey approved componentswith your product. Never modify theproduct in any way. Failure to followinstructions may put the user or carer at risk and will invalidate the warranty on the product.

4. If in any doubt to the continued safeuse of your Leckey product or if any partsshould fail, please cease using theproduct and contact our customerservices department or your local dealeras soon as possible.

5. Carry out all positional adjustments and ensure that they are securely fastenedbefore you put the user into the product.Some adjustments may require the use of a tool which is provided with eachproduct. Keep all tools out of reach of children.

6. When putting the user into a seatingsystem, both for positional and safetyreasons, always secure the pelvic harness first.

7. When the product is stationary ensurethat all castors are locked and facingaway from the base, as this will improveproduct stability. This is especiallyimportant when the tilt in space or backrecline facility is in use.

8. When the seat is in use on a Hi lowchassis please ensure that the heightadjustment pedal and tilt in space leverare locked off and cannot be adjustedaccidentally by other children.

9. When the Leckey seating systems areused on the Hi low we do not recommendthat users are moved over unevensurfaces when in the equipment. All due care and attention should be taken if transporting the user in and out of the seat.

10. Never leave the product on a slopingsurface, greater than 5 degrees. Alwaysremember to lock all the castors.

11. Only use the push handle to steer andmove the seat from one area to another.Never use the tray for this purpose.

12. The product contains componentswhich could present a choking hazard tosmall children. Always check that lockingknobs and bolts within the child’s reachare tightened and secure at all times.

13. Leckey products comply with firesafety regulations in accordance withEN12182. However the product containsplastic components and therefore shouldbe kept away from all direct sources ofheat including naked flames, cigarettes,electric and gas heaters.

14. Do not place objects on the tray, greater than 40ºC.

4. Product History RecordYour Leckey product is classified as aClass 1 Medical device and as suchshould only be prescribed set up orreissued for use by a technicallycompetent person who has been trainedin the use of this product. Leckeyrecommend that a written record ismaintained to provide details of all setups,reissue inspections and annualinspections of this product.

5. Product Training Record (Parents, Teachers & Carers)Your Leckey product is a prescribed Class1 Medical Device and as such Leckeyrecommend that parents, teachers andcarers using the equipment should bemade aware of the following sections ofthis user manual by a technicallycompetent person:

Leckey recommend that a written recordis maintained of all those who havetrained in the correct use of this product.

6 Safety Information

The Mygo Seating System has been crashtested and passed for use in vehicles. It has been tested in its completeconfiguration on a surrogate base with aLeckey head support attached.

If the Mygo Seating System is being usedin a vehicle the following points must beadhered to:

The Mygo Seating System must bepositioned forward facing and used withan Unwin Restraint System and a headsupport which should be suitablypositioned at all times duringtransportation. The head support isavailable as an optional accessory withthe Mygo Seating System.

The Mygo Seating System is crash testedand meets the requirements of ISO16840 part 4. The seat has also been tested andmeets the requirements of ISO 7176-8.

ImportantThese crash test details refer to the MygoSeating System and interface plate only. Ifyou are using the Mygo Seating Systemon a wheelchair base, please refer to thewheelchair manufacturer’s handbook forcrash test details.

15. Clean the product regularly. Do not use abrasive cleaners. Carry out maintenance checks on aregular basis to ensure your product is in good working condition.

16. The product is designed for indoor useand when not in use should be stored in adry place that is not subjected toextremes of temperature. The safeoperating temperature range of theproduct is +5 to +40 deg Celsius.

17. Always check the plastic hand knobson the push handle are tightened securelybefore you move the seat unit.

18. Before using the seating system alwayscheck that the interface handle on the seatunit is fully engaged with the chassis. If thehandle is not engaged properly the seatunit may come loose and could causeserious injury to the child or carer.

Check parts Congratulations on purchasing your MygoSeating System. When opening the box, cutthe straps, taking care not to cut throughthe tape as you may damage some of theparts contained inside. All of the parts willbe contained in polythene bags with eachone clearly labelled. Carefully remove themfrom the boxes and check all the parts youhave ordered.

Safety FirstKeep polythene bags away from children.

Some of the accessories will need to beassembled before you attach the seat to thebase you have purchased. If you are fittingthe seat to a mobility base please ensure youfit the interface plate to the mobility basefirst. Instructions on how to attach theinterface to specific bases will be providedwith the interface plate. Once you havechecked all the components you are thenready to assemble the Mygo Seating Systemand attach it to its base.

Multi-toolA number of adjustments will require the useof the multi-tool, which is supplied with eachseat and can be found in the back pack.

How tounpack andassemble the seatingsystem

If using the Leckey footrests, remove theseat from the chassis and set the seatingsystem upside down on a work surface.Open up the angle of the leg supports byreleasing the two locking levers, shown, andset to the maximum width. Open the socketcaps and slide in the calf supports. Set tothe desired position, with the footplatesfacing forward and retighten the socket capbolts with the multi-tool.

Always make sure the foot plate is attached firmly.

Attaching the footrests(if ordered)

The backrest will be folded down forshipping. Raise it into the vertical positionand, while doing so, slide the inner tube intothe receiving outer tube.

Secure the backrest in an upright positionand tighten the ratchet handle. Check that itis secure and does not move when pressureis applied. If the user thrusts forward orbackwards they could cause injury tothemselves or their carers.

Always make sure the backrest is attached securely.

Use caution when inserting inner tube asthere could be possible finger nip.

Setting the backrest

The push handle is attached to the Hi lowchassis by inserting the two lower stems intothe receiving tubes as shown. The pushhandle has safety poppers (A), which need tobe pressed in when inserting the lower stems.Push the stems in until the poppers protrudefrom the other end of the receiving tubes.Secure the handle in place by tightening thelocking knobs (B).

Check these regularly to make sure theknobs are tight, particularly if you aremoving the product unit along corridorsthat may have uneven or sloping surfaces.

Adjust the height of the chassis to itsmaximum to reduce risk of back strain whileattaching the seat unit. Refer to Section 11on how to adjust the height of the chassisyou have purchased.

First release the safety locking pin at thefront of the seat. To do this pull the pin outand rotate through 90 degrees. Carefully liftthe seat and place it into the chassis. At therear of the underside of the seat you will seea receiving channel. Place this securely overthe tube towards the back of the chassis.Pull the handle at the front of the seat unit upand then pivot the seat forward and down.Once the front of the seat is lowered fully,release the handle and push it forward to

ensure it has fully engaged on the front tube.Rotate the safety locking pin so it engages infront of the handle. If it hits the handle thenthe seat is not inserted properly, remove andrepeat process outlined above.

Always check the handle and locking pinare fully engaged before you place thechild in the seating system. If the handleis not engaged properly the seat unit cancome loose and could cause seriousinjury to the child or carer.

While holding the components together, removethe plastic knob and washer. Align the plasticangle adjuster mouldings and lateral bracketwith the slot in the backrest and refit the washerand plastic knob.

To attach the head support slide the steminto the reducing sleeve (A) and receivingbracket. Ensure the slot in the reducingsleeve is aligned with the slot in the receivingbracket. Set to the desired position andsecure using the hand lever (B).

The Mygo Seating System has been designedto interface with Whitmyer head supports.The Whitmyer Lynx headsupport is attachedin the same way as the Leckey headrest. Toattach Whitmyer Pro-Series headsupportsremove the spacer collar from the receivingbracket and lock the vertical stem in positionusing the ratchet handle.

Attaching the grab rail

To attach the grab rail, insert the receivingbrackets (D) in the tray slot and secure withthe plastic knob (E). Repeat on the other sideand then sleeve the tubes into the tube (D)and tighten the plastic knob (B).

The tray is attached to the seat by inserting thetray tubes through the centre of the armrest.Once the tray is located in the position theknob (A) should be tightened securely.

Attaching thekneepads

Attach the knee pads with the snap fastenersto the knee guides on the sides of the upperlegs supports.

Attaching thesandals

If sandals are required they can be attachedto the footplates with a single fixing bolt. Toposition the sandals simply loosen the knob(B) under the footplate, select the positionyou require and re-fasten the knob. If sandalsare not required Velcro straps are provided forfoot positioning.

Interfaces for wheelchairand pushchair bases

The set up and attachment of the Mygoseat to any mobility base should becompleted by a technically competentperson who is familiar with the set up ofthe mobility base.

Interface “A” attachment to 16” widemobility baseThe universal interface has been designed toenable the Mygo Seat to be attached to anystandard 16” (405mm) wide mobility basethat has been constructed from 1” (25.4mm)side tubing.

Please refer to specific assembly instructionssupplied with your interface for correctpositioning on your base.

The Interface plate should be fitted by aqualified technician who is technicallycompetent in the set up of the mobility base.The position of push handles, leg hangers andarmrests on the mobility base may need to beadjusted depending on the size and weight ofthe child to ensure the stability of the seat.

Always refer to the mobility basemanufactures guide lines for correct setup, paying particular attention to productcentre of gravity and stability.

Users should not be left unattended at anytime whilst using Leckey equipment.

Attaching the obliquity pads

To attach the obliquity pads first remove thebase cushion. Set the obliquity pad panel inplace with the holes on the tab over the snapfastener. Insert foam as required and refit thebase cushion.

The back pack contains the activity settingrecord cards and indicator cards, Mygocolouring cards, Leckey colouring pencils,Mygo user manual and a Leckey multi-tool.

Only fit the back pack once the system hasbeen set up. The back pack is easiest to fitonce you remove the back cushion. It isattached by elasticated straps which stretchover the back plate. They will also stretch overthe lateral supports if they are fitted. Once inplace refit the back cushion.

Activity Setting RecordCards and indicator cards

The indicator card contains stickers which canbe applied to the clear strip on the side of theback adjuster. They are designed to indicatethe preferred position or back angle fordifferent activities.

The activity setting record cards are used tolist the different activities the therapist wishesto carry out in class, or at home. They willdescribe the new setting and the nature &duration of the activity.

The back pack contains small componentswhich could present a choking hazard tosmall children. Always check that the zip is closed.

Users should not be left unattended at anytime whilst using Leckey equipment.

Cards and colouringpencils

The kids can write their name, draw a pictureor colour-in the card to make the seatingsystem uniquely theirs.

Upper leg supportcushions

To fit the two upper leg support cushions,slide the cushions over the adjustable sidesand secure at the back by locating the twosnap fasteners. To fully secure, pull theelastic strip found inside the side cushionsover the hooks provided. Repeat this for bothsides. The cushions are then secured at thefront by pulling the two elastic tabs over thehooks provided.

Seat base cushion

The seat base cushion can be attached bysimply setting it in place, then pressing downto locate the snap fastener. To secure further,snap the two side tabs in place.

Always check the seat base cushion issecure before placing the child in the seat.

Flexible sacral cushion

The flexible sacral cushion can be attached bysliding it over the plastic tongue, using thefixing snap fastener to secure in place.

Trunk harness

With your trunk harness you will receive fouradjustable side straps, two shoulder strapsand brackets, the bolts, washers and lockingnuts. Fix the connecting straps to thebackrest before attaching the trunk harness.To attach the connecting straps in theshoulder area, slide the bracket into the slotand set at the desired height using the boltsand washers provided.

The remaining four adjustable side straps areattached to the receiving holes either side of the backrest (B). Simply attach the trunk harness to the connecting straps. The side straps are adjustable in length to accommodate outdoor clothing.

Pelvic harness

The Pelvic Harness is sleeved onto the hipguides into the pockets on the outer face ofthe harness. It is adjusted to the desiredposition by securing it to one of the snapfasteners on the adjustable hip guide bracket.The buckle on the tie down strap is clippedinto a receiving buckle on either side of theseat base. Finally secure the pelvic harness byattaching the centre plastic buckle.

Lateral support paddedcushions

To attach the lateral support paddedcushions, simply slide the cushions on withthe padded side towards the inside of theseat. Sleeve the plastic buckle through theslot in the cover. Then bring the two Velcrofastener straps around the bottom of themoulding and attach them to the Velcropanel as shown. Close over the flap.

Backrest cushion

If you have lateral supports fitted to your chair,adjust them to their maximum width beforeattaching the backrest cushion.

Slide the cushion down over the flexible sacralcushion and secure in place using the foursnap fasteners in the backrest moulding.Align the top fasteners first and snap in place, then secure the lower fasteners.

Chest harness

The chest harness can be attached byclipping the male buckle into the femalebuckle at either side of the lateral supports.

Knee pads

Attach the knee pads with the snap fastenersto the knee guides on the sides of the upperleg supports.

Contoured headrestcushion

To attach the headrest cushion, place thecushion onto the head support plate, thensnap the central fastener and two upperfasteners in place. Bring the lower flap underthe plate and snap the two remainingfasteners in place.

Flat headrest cushion

The flat headrest cushion is attached in thesame way as the contoured headrestcushion. The headrest lateral covers areattached in the same way as the lateralsupport padded covers.

Clinical setupfor PosturalManagement.The clinical setup of the productshould be completed by atechnically and clinically competentperson who has been trained in theuse of the product. Leckeyrecommend a written record ismaintained of all clinical setups forthis product.

Set the backrest height, seat depthand footplate height before placingthe child in the seat. These can be fine tuned when the child is inthe seat.

Backrest depth

The back depth is adjusted by depressingthe popper then sliding the back supporttube to the desired position. This is veryimportant as it will ensure the seat will fit the child, both when they are upright and in a recline position.

There are three settings where the poppercan be located.

Position A: Will accommodate children from the age of 4-6 years.

Position B: Will accommodate children from the age of 7-9 years.

Position C: Will accommodate children from 10-12 years.

The positions above are a general guide. We recommend that you measure the child’sleg length and set the system to suit. To dothis measure the depth from the child’s lowerback to the back of their knee.

This backrest depth should not beadjusted while the child is in the seatingsystem

Pelvic harness andhip guides

To set the width of the hip guides loosen theAllen bolts (C), adjust to the desired width andretighten. To adjust the depth of the harness,move the snap fastener (A or B) to eitherposition. Adjust the support straps to therequired length. Ensure the buckle connectssecurely in the middle. If using the seatoutdoors and your child is wearing a coat,position the pelvic harness under the coat.

Always attach the pelvic strap first beforemaking any other adjustments.

Backrest angle

The backrest can be angled by loosening thehand lever (A) at the bottom of the backrest.Simply select the position you require thenretighten the hand lever securely. Alwaysensure the back angle is secure to maintainthe desired posture for the child.

The backrest angle can be adjusted with thechild in the seat.

Always make sure the hand lever issecure as this could cause injury to thechild or carer.

There are two angle indicator strips on eitherside of the back adjuster. We have suppliedangle location markers (shown below) on acard. These can be applied to the clear stripon the adjuster tube to indicate the desiredpositions for various activities such as rest,feeding, play.

The angle indicator strip indicates the anglefrom the seat cushion to the backrest.

The black and yellow hazard strip on theinner tube indicates the maximum forwardor prone position the backrest can beadjusted to.

Backrest height

The overall height of the backrest can beadjusted by loosening the two socket capbolts, then positioning to the requiredshoulder height of the user. Once in positionthe socket cap bolts should be retightenedsecurely. The height can be fine tuned whenthe user is in the seat. The position can befine tuned with the user in the seat.

Use caution when adjusting to minimumsetting as fingers could become trappedbetween moving and static parts.

Footplate height

To set the height of the footplate loosen theknob (A) on the back of the calf support tubeand slide the footplate to the required heightand retighten the knob

To set the correct height of the footplatemeasure the distance from the back of thechild’s knee to the bottom of their heel.You may have to adjust the angle to achievethe required foot position. To adjust theangle loosen the bolt (C) with the multi-tool,set to the desired angle and retighten. There is a safety popper (B) to indicatemaximum safe extension. This can be setwith the child in the seat.

Always check the footplate is secure toprevent the user sliding forward anddown in the seat which could pose achoking hazard if a chest or trunkharness is attached.

Adjusting the upperleg supports

The upper leg supports will be set at theminimum position on arrival. Set the depthbefore placing the child in the seat. Fineadjustment is possible afterwards but isrestricted by the users weight. To achieve thecorrect position measure the length from the child’s lower back to the back oftheir knee.

Adjust the supports to the desired positionusing the locking lever underneath the seatbase. To adjust, press the locking button andrelease. Keep the supports pointing straight forward at this time unless wind sweeping oradduction, abduction must be

accommodated, in which case set the angleaccordingly using the locking lever again.

The supports can be adjusted again once thechild has been placed in the chair.

To adjust the width of the knee guides loosenthe bolts (A) on the underside using the multi-tool provided. Set to the desired width andretighten securely.

Flexible sacralsupport

The flexible sacral support is used inconjunction with the pelvic positioningharness. To adjust the height, depth and angle, loosen the bolts on either side with themulti-tool provided.

Adjust the support to the correct angle thenretighten the bolts. The support will flex backand forward to assist the child into thepreferred posture.

Always use caution to ensure fingers donot become trapped when adjusting thesacral support.

Lateral supports

Loosen the hand knob (A) to adjust the width,height and angle of the lateral supports andretighten when you have achieved the desiredposition. If the lateral supports are attachedwith bolts instead of hand knobs they can beadjusted with the multi tool.

Footplate angleadjustment

To set the angle to accommodateplantarflexion or dorsiflexion, simply loosenor tighten the hand knob (A) to select theangle you require.

The footplates can simply flip up to aid transfer.

Chest harness

To change the width of the chest harness. Liftthe front cover, adjust the Velcro straps to thedesired width and replace the cover.

Trunk harness

When the child is out of the seating systemthe trunk harness will be open but remainattached by two side clips (A) on one side and one pelvic harness clip (B).When placing the child in the seating systembring the trunk harness across the front andattach by connecting the clips into thebuckles on the other side (C).

Connect the remaining straps into the pelvicharness by feeding them through the loop (D)and snapping into place.

Then connect the shoulder straps (E) into theclips at the top.

If your child is wearing outdoor clothing, the side straps can be opened by releasingthe snap fasteners. The pelvic harnessconnecting strap can be released by moving the strap to the lower snapfastener position.

All the connecting straps are adjustable bylifting the cover, adjusting to the desiredlength and replacing the cover.

Check the laterals and harnesses regularlyto ensure they have not become loose aswithout appropriate trunk support thechild may be at risk of slipping into aposition they cannot recover from. Thiscould present a choking hazard.

Adjusting the knee pads

The kneepads can be used as a limiter to helpprevent the child from sliding forward in theseat. It can also be used above the knee toprevent the child from raising their foot. Toadjust the knee pads lift the front cover adjustthe Velcro straps to the desired length andreposition in place. To remove unclip the snapfastener on one side.

Sandals

To position the sandals simply loosen the knob(B) under the footplate, select the position yourequire and re-fasten the knob. To position theuser’s feet in the sandals secure the Velcroankle and toe straps provided.

If sandals are not required Velcro straps areprovided for foot positioning.

Contoured headsupport

To adjust the height, depth and angle of thecontoured headrest, loosen the hand knobs(C) and when set to the desired positionretighten the knobs. Do not remove theheadrest while the user is in the seat.

Never use the headrest to force theposition of the users head.

Always use caution to ensure fingers donot become trapped when adjusting the headrest.

Flat headrest withlateral supports

To adjust the height, depth and angle of theflat headrest, adjust using the hand levers (A).

To adjust the width of the laterals loosenplastic knob (B), slide to desired position andtighten securely.

Armrest adjustment

To adjust the height of the armrest loosen thehand knob (B), set to the desired height andretighten. To adjust the angle, rotate handknob (A) until the desired position has beenachieved.

To remove the armrest completely, loosenhand knob (C), press popper (D) and lift the armrest.

Always use caution as fingers couldbecome trapped in the slot whenadjusting the height.

Tray Adjustment

The height and angle of the tray are set byadjusting the armrests as detailed above. Toremove or adjust the depth of the tray loosenthe knobs (A) under the armrest, set to thedesired position and re-tighten securely.

Always use caution to ensure the childshands or arms do not become trappedwhen inserting the tray.

Never use the tray to steer or push the chair.

Do not place objects on the tray, greater than 40 degrees Celsius.

Please note that the tray is for the use ofthe user only. Do not lean or place objectson the tray, greater than 8kgs (17.6lbs).

Grab rail adjustment

To set the depth of the grab rail to suit thechilds reach, loosen knob (A), adjust to therequired depth and then re-tighten.

Do not adjust the horizontal bars beyond the moulding, except when you are removingthe tray.

Frequentadjustment for daily use(therapists/carers/parents)Parents and carers should beshown how to make frequentadjustments and be made awareof the safety checks in Section 6by a technically and clinicallycompetent person who has beentrained in the use of the product.Leckey recommend that a writtenrecord is maintained of all parentand carers who have been trainedin the use of this product.

Transferring your child intoand out of the seat

Adjusting thepelvic harness

Before transferring the child into the seatcarry out the daily product inspection asoutlined in section 13 of this user manual.

Adjust the seat to a comfortable height tofacilitate transfer. Lock all the castors,ensuring that they are facing outwards tomaximise product stability. Make sure thesafety buckle on the chest harness isreleased and is out of the way to facilitatetransfer.

Unclip the pelvic harness in the middle andallow the harness to open out to facilitatetransfer. Lastly if sandals are fitted open thestraps. You are now ready to transfer or hoistthe child into the seat.

Always secure the pelvic harness firstbefore fastening other buckles or harness.Adjust the harness so the child cannotslide or creep forward in the seat.

The correct positioning and tensioning of thepelvic harness is key to a child’s posturalmanagement, affecting their comfort andability to carry out activities. Please consultwith your therapist to ensure the harness ispositioned correctly and that the straps aretensioned appropriately.

To tension the pelvic straps and pads aroundthe child pull the centre strap (A). Pull the two side straps up to fine tune the pelvicposition and adjust (B) the height of the pads on the hips.

If using the seat outdoors and your child iswearing a coat, position the pelvic harnessunder the coat.

If the child is active or has extensorspasms check the 4 point pelvic strap issecure after each spasm to ensure thechild is safe and cannot slide forward inthe seat.

Always keep the locking pin engagedwhen you are not adjusting the chassis.This will prevent the foot pedal beingoperated accidentally.

For children over the weight of 27kg(60lbs), raising the manual chassis is a 2person lift (UK lifting and handlingregulations).

Always use caution as hands couldbecome trapped when height adjustingthe base.

Chassis

The Mygo Seat is designed to fit onto arange of chassis. This user manual showsthe correct and safe use of the seatingsystem with the Leckey Hi low chassis. Forall other chassis or bases please refer to themanufacturer’s handbook.

To prepare the Hi low chassis for the seatingsystem we recommend that you raise thechassis to a comfortable working height bypressing the foot lever at the rear of thechassis or by pressing the up button on thehandset of the powered option.

Height Adjustment –Hi low chassis

You can carry out this adjustment with thechild in the chair. To adjust the height of theHi low chassis press the foot lever at the rear of the chassis or press the up button onthe handset of the powered option whilstholding the push handle. Once you removeyour foot from the pedal or your thumb fromthe handset the seat will be fixed at thechosen height.

For safety the height adjustment pedal onthe chassis can be locked by engaging thepull pin (C) on the right hand side of thepedal. To unlock pull the pin out and rotate90 degrees, the pedal can then be operated.The locking pin (C) should be kept in thelocked position when you are not adjustingthe chassis.

Powered heightadjustment

The powered chassis can be easily adjustedwith the push button control handset. Theseat can be height adjusted with the client inthe chair. Before the product is used for thefirst time it is recommended that the batteryshould be fully charged for 12 hours. To dothis plug the adaptor into the mains socketand attach the lead (A) to the battery andswitch on the mains supply power. Whencharged switch off mains power, remove the adaptor plug and disconnect the lead from the battery. The battery charge should be topped up each day for approximately one hour. The chair can be adjusted in height while connected to the mains.

Tilt in space

The tilt in space can be angled while the useris in the seat. Before you adjust the tilt-in-space angle of the seat always ensure thepelvic harness is secured preventing the userfrom sliding forward in the seat.

To adjust the tilt angle press the lever underthe seat base. Once you have selected theangle you require, by simply removing yourhand from the lever, the chair will be lockedin position. The tilt in space should be locked off while the user is in the seat. Tolock the lever twist the pull pin to the righthand side of the lever and the pin will popinto position. You may have to lift the leverslightly to allow it to lock. To unlock pull thepin out and rotate 90 degrees, the lever canthen be operated.

Always keep the tilt in space lever in thelocked position to prevent accidentalactuation of the lever which could causethe seat unit to jolt and possibly causeinjury to the child.

Please use handle bars when operating tiltin space.

Always check with your therapist that theuse of “tilt in Space” will not cause anyobstructions to the child’s airways.

Chest and trunk Harnessadjustment

If the child requires chest support as part oftheir postural support programme the seatwill be fitted with rigid laterals or acombination of laterals, chest harnesses andtrunk harness. These may need to beadjusted on a daily basis to accommodatedifferences in clothing.

Always check with your therapist as to theoptimum positioning and tensioning of thestraps and support items for the child.

To change the width of the chest harness, liftthe front cover, adjust the Velcro straps andset to the desired width. When the correctwidth has been achieved replace the cover.

Please refer to section 10 for specificguidance on adjusting the trunk harness.

Always make sure the plastic buckles are fully engaged when using the chest harness.

Check the harness and laterals are secureto ensure the child is safe and cannot slide forward in the seat as this mayrestrict their breathing.

Always use caution as fingers couldbecome trapped in the slot whenadjusting the height.

Always use caution to ensure the childshands or arms do not become trappedwhen inserting the tray.

Never use the tray to steer or push the chair.

Do not place hot objects on the tray, greater than 40 degrees Celsius.

Please note that the tray is for the use ofthe user only. Do not lean or place heavyobjects on the tray, not greater than 8kgs(17.6lbs).

Sandals

To position the user’s feet in the sandalssecure the Velcro straps provided so the footis held in place. The straps should be placedover the bridge of the foot and over the toes.

If the child is wearing sandals or lightfootwear check the straps to make sure the webbing does not irritate the skin.

Tray adjustment

The activity tray can be used for a range offunctions and its position can be fine tunedto suit the user and the activity whether it isfor fun, education or feeding. The tray isattached to the seat by inserting the traytubes through the centre of the armrest.Once the tray is located in the position theknob (A) should be tightened securely.

Adjust the armrests to set the height andangle of the tray.

Armrest adjustment

To adjust the height of the armrest loosen thehand knob (B) set to the desired height andretighten. To adjust the angle rotate handknob (A) until the desired position has beenachieved.

To remove the armrest completely for sidetransfer or assist in getting the child into orout of the seat loosen hand knob (C), presspopper (D) and lift the armrest.

12 Cleaning & CareInformation

How to MaintainWhen cleaning we recommend that you useonly warm water and a non-abrasivedetergent. Never use organic solvents or drycleaning fluids.

Upholstery and fabrics1. The upholstery and fabrics can be cleanedby hand whilst in place. When cleaning werecommend that you use only warm waterand a non-abrasive detergent.

2. The best cleaning method is a ‘wipe & dry’technique.

3. Staining should be removed as quickly as possible with absorbent cloth, towels or a sponge. Routine soap and warm watersponging is effective for ordinary soiling and minor spills. Be careful not to over wetthe fabric as this will cause the staining to spread.

4 Antiseptic cleaning agents can be used onmore stubborn stains. These may require asafe solvent such as Isopropyl Alcohol orMineral Spirit. A half cup of householdbleach to 5 litres of water can also be usedas a useful disinfectant.

5. The pelvic and trunk harnesses can bemachine washed at 40 Deg C. Make sure all bolts and fasteners are removed first asthey may cause damage to your washingmachine. Store these in a safe place and out of reach from children.

6 Always ensure the product is dry before use.

Metal and plastic components1. Soap and water or antibacterial spray canbe used for daily cleaning.

2. For deep cleaning a low pressure steamcleaner can be used.

3. Do not use solvents to clean plastic ormetal components.

4. Make sure the product is dry before use.

13 Daily Product Inspection

(Therapists, parents & carers)We recommend that daily visual checks ofthe equipment are carried out by therapists,carers or parents to ensure the product issafe for use. The recommended daily checksare detailed below.

1. Ensure all adjustment knobs and bolts arein place and secure.

2. Check all upholstery and Velcro for signsof wear and tear.

3. Check all castors are moving freely andlock securely.

4. Ensure the handle and locking pin on theseat interface plate is fully engaged and theseat unit is securely fixed onto the chassis.

5. Ensure the pelvic harness is fully securedaround the user and they cannot slide orcreep forward in the seat.

6. Ensure the footplate is attached securely.

14 Annual ProductInspection

(Therapist, Technician, Leckey ProductAdvisor, Dealer)Leckey recommend that each product shouldbe subject to a detailed inspection at leastonce a year and every time the product isreissued for use. This inspection should becarried out by a technically competentperson who has been trained in the use ofthe product and should include the followingchecks as a minimum requirement.

1. Check all knobs, nuts, bolts and plasticbuckles are in place, replacing any missingitems. Paying particular attention to thefollowing items;> Headsupport locking bolts. > Backrest height and angle

adjustments bolts.> Seat depth adjustment bolts.> Pelvic harness / hip guide

attachment bolts.> Footrest height and angle

adjustment.

2. Check the chassis height adjustmentmechanism is working properly. If the chassisis foot pedal operated ensure the seat heightdoesn’t change when the pedal is released.Also, check that the locking pin engagessecurely to prevent accidental heightadjustment of the chassis.

3. Adjust the seat to its maximum range oftilt-in-space and ensure that the locking leverlocks the seat out securely at varying point inthis range.

4. Check that were the seat and chassis jointhere is no visible wear or tear on the metalcomponents.

Grab rail adjustment

To set the depth of the grab rail to suit thechilds reach loosening knob (A) adjust to therequired depth and then re-tighten.

Do not adjust the horizontal bars beyond themouldings, except when you are removingthe tray.

15 Re-issuing LeckeyProducts

Most Leckey products are assessed andordered to meet the needs of an individualuser. Before reissuing a product werecommend that the therapist prescribing theproduct has carried out an equipmentcompatibility check for the new user and hasensured that the product being re-issued contains no modifications or special attachments.

A detailed technical inspection should becarried out on the product prior to re-issuing.This should be carried out by a technicallycompetent person who has been trained in the use and inspection of the product.Please refer to section 14 for the requiredchecks to be carried out.

Ensure the product has been cleanedthoroughly in accordance with section 12 of this manual.
