OVERVIEW OF LOUPEDECK CT Before getting familiar with Loupedeck Creative Tool (referred to in this manual as “CT”) and all that it offers for Final Cut Pro X, let’s go through some things that are important for your usage and ideal understanding of the device. Please read this manual as well as the User Guide on how to use the Loupedeck Setup to fully understand the depth and usage of the device and its software before fully getting into it to avoid potential confusion and misunderstanding. LOUPEDECK CT SUPPORTS:

§ Mac® OS 10.12 or later § Apple® Final Cut Pro X (most recent version)

MAC TIP: Install applications into Applications folder. Otherwise Loupedeck software may not be able to detect editing software on your computer.

NOTE!: For Loupedeck CT, minimum requirement is Loupedeck Setup software 3.0, which does not work on MacOS 10.11 (or older) HOW TO SET UP YOUR LOUPEDECK CT: 1. Download & install the latest Loupedeck software by visiting www.loupedeck.com/en/setup 2. Connect the USB cable to your computer’s USB port HOW TO SET UP YOUR LOUPEDECK CT WITH APPLE FINAL CUT PRO X: Color Wheels: 1. Open Final Cut Pro X 2. Go to Final Cut Pro -> Preferences -> General -> Color Correction 3. Select “Color Wheels” and accept NOTE!: Your computer keyboard should be using UK or US keyboard settings (you can change this in your OS preferences). For the time being, this has to be done for CT to work within Final Cut Pro X. Some actions do not work properly with Scandinavian and German layouts, for example. 1. Go to System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Input Sources -> Push “Add” 2. Select “English ABC" or "English ABC Extended” and accept

DEFAULT PROFILE The default profile that you get with CT may not be 100% fitting for your needs and workflow, but don’t worry: it's possible to customise Loupedeck CT freely to your liking. We are aware that people have different needs, workflows and projects – so do feel free to modify things! Having what matters to you where it matters and memorizing it will speed up your workflow. You can have several profiles. Use Loupedeck Setup to make the profile – or several, if you wish – perfect for you and save them (on the built-in CT storage, for example). CT is not designed to eliminate all mouse usage. Moreover, with some functions, CT works best when it gets a little help from your mouse (e.g., selecting a clip with the mouse and then working with the clip with CT). With some actions, CT nicely takes the workload off the mouse, though – e.g., navigating through the timeline, moving clips, adjusting color, tuning transitions etc. You might think that some obvious and much-needed actions are missing from the default profile. However, by hovering over buttons in the Setup window (or just by trying out the device), you will notice a few more actions such as Set Selection Start: 4 Set Selection End: 5 Goto In: Fn + 4 Goto Out: Fn + 5 Copy: 7 Paste: 8 Paste Some Attributes: Fn + 8 Blade at Playhead: E Blade All at Playhead: Fn + E These actions are useful throughout the whole editing process, so we placed them in easy-to-reach locations. Tip!: Remember that pressing the Fn button gives you a second layer of actions. So for example, behind the Undo button, you will find a Redo action by pressing Fn + Undo. Enter key works as Esc when you press Fn + Enter.

KEYBOARD MODIFIERS As some editors love their keyboard modifiers, e.g. to copy a clip, we have them available on CT, too. Pressing the keyboard modifier button, makes keyboard modifiers accessible on the round buttons. The round buttons are turning white when keyboard modifiers are enabled. ARROW BUTTONS: A B C D With ABCD arrow buttons and Fn + ABCD, you can jump to next/previous Frame, go to to Sequence Start or End, move your selected clip(s) up and down on tracks, and go to next/previous Edit Point.

LOUPEDECK CT & FINAL CUT PRO X To make using Loupedeck CT as intuitive as possible for Final Cut Pro X, all the actions are divided into two levels of control elements:

1) Workspace (elements): a. Dials b. Touch buttons c. Wheel (incl. touch screen)

2) General elements: a. Round buttons b. Square buttons

The first group is controlled by workspaces, and every workspace has an individual set of tools and controls The second group, general elements, contains functions that are needed throughout your creative process. These buttons do not change when workspace is changed.

GENERAL ELEMENTS

Round buttons have a number from 1 to 8, and they change their color according to the assigned action type (e.g., green indicates workspace, purple indicates an action). Square buttons, are dedicated to the most used actions that are needed from time to time regardless of the activated workspace. Square buttons, unlike round buttons, are prelabeled to indicate a set of actions that are, in fact, common amongst almost every editing software (e.g., save, enter, navigation arrows).

Page 8: USER GUIDE FOR LOUPEDECK CT & FINAL CUT PRO X...LOUPEDECK CT & FINAL CUT PRO X To make using Loupedeck CT as intuitive as possible for Final Cut Pro X, all the actions are divided

WORKSPACE ELEMENTS A workspace is a “toolbox”, a collection of related functions (rotation, press and wheel templates), laid out so that you can do certain actions.

Dials are prioritized for the most used adjustments (e.g., Zoom in Timeline). Dials also have a press function that is, in most cases, bind for resetting adjustment value (e.g., pressing contrast dial will reset contrast back to zero). TIP! If you don’t need resetting a value, you can assign a different press function to dials. Touch Buttons (on touch screen) contain most used actions within a workspace or page links for dials or the wheel. Wheel contains both rotation capability (wheel ring) and touch capability (wheel screen).

Page 9: USER GUIDE FOR LOUPEDECK CT & FINAL CUT PRO X...LOUPEDECK CT & FINAL CUT PRO X To make using Loupedeck CT as intuitive as possible for Final Cut Pro X, all the actions are divided

The factory default profile comes with 3 workspaces:

1. WORKSPACE: Editing 2. WORKSPACE: Color 3. WORKSPACE: Audio

You can of course have more workspaces: you can have sub-workspaces that you access with the Fn key. This could be handy, for example, for creating a sub-workspace for your favorite editing functions under the main editing workspace. You can also create Workspaces but only assign them when needed: for example, a Multi Camera Workspace with actions that are Multi-Camera-project-specific. ACCESSING WORKSPACES Access the workspaces directly using the dedicated round buttons. If you double-tap the home button, you will see a “home screen” that has links to workspaces. The order the workspaces are on the pads of the home screen reflects the order they are on the physical workspace buttons. These can be set by the user. If you are viewing a page of a workspace that is not its first one, the first tap of home button takes you to the first page for touch pads and dials of that workspace.

WORKSPACE 1: EDITING This section includes basic actions that are needed for putting together, cleaning up and finalising a video for presentation or output. By default, it includes 3 touchpages, 1 dial page and 2 wheel pages. 1.1 EDIT BASICS - TOUCH PAGE This first page is filled with shortcuts that most editors would use frequently throughout the editing process, along with two blue page links for organising your “Project” and accessing “Tools” as well as the Loupedeck Setup icon.

Page 10: USER GUIDE FOR LOUPEDECK CT & FINAL CUT PRO X...LOUPEDECK CT & FINAL CUT PRO X To make using Loupedeck CT as intuitive as possible for Final Cut Pro X, all the actions are divided

Tip!: In case you don’t recognise an icon right away, a long press on the touch display will inform you the action name on the big wheel. This might be useful if you want to try out other applications that you are less familiar with.

1.2. PROJECT PAGE - TOUCH PAGE With the actions on this page, you can:

• Organize your project by adding New Folders inside your library • Import materials • Go through imported clips in your Project Window using the dial “Change Clip” or tap

“Next Clip” on the touch pad • Review a clip using the Shuttle Wheel or the Navigation Wheel • Mark a clip as “Favorite” • Set In and Out points with round buttons 4 + 5 • Send the selection to your timeline by pressing "Insert"

Tip!: Whenever a dialog window opens, you can confirm your selection by pressing Enter or close the window by pressing Fn + Enter (= ESC).

Page 11: USER GUIDE FOR LOUPEDECK CT & FINAL CUT PRO X...LOUPEDECK CT & FINAL CUT PRO X To make using Loupedeck CT as intuitive as possible for Final Cut Pro X, all the actions are divided

1.3. TOOLS PAGE - TOUCH PAGE Here you can access quickly all TOOLS so that you can either reduce your mouse usage or keep your hands on the device. Tip!: You can access the touch pages that are linked under “Project” and "Tools" also with a horizontal swipe on the touch display instead of clicking the page link button. If you need more space for your favorite actions on the first page, remove the page links and free 2 buttons that way. NUDGE HORIZTONAL DIAL One comfortable way of arranging clips in the timeline is to NUDGE selected items, meaning to move them by very small amounts. The dial gives you a very precise feel of moving clips, as one tick corresponds to one frame. Nudging by subframes is also available for connected audio-only clips.

In order to TRIM a clip, select an edit point and rotate the Nudge dial in the direction you want to trim the clip. As you drag, the clip shortens or lengthens.

NOTE!: The preceding clip and the following clip must have media handles (additional media available beyond the edit point).

NAVIGATION There are several ways of navigating within your timeline and through clips. You just need to find what feels best depending on the situation and controls needed.

è Navigation Wheel For precise control, we suggest using the predefined NAVIGATION WHEEL with the 2 functions Navigate 1 and 10 Frames. By clicking anywhere on the wheel, you can toggle between these 2 functions.

è Shuttle Wheel For navigation through lots of material, the SHUTTLE WHEEL is the best choice as it accelerates depending on how much you turn the wheel. Maximum speed is reached at 90 degrees rotation of wheel. Releasing the wheel stops the play-head instantly. If you missed your exact frame, Fn + rotation of the Shuttle Wheel gets you there, or you can use the square buttons C + D, or you assign 1 frame navigation to a dial of your liking. Tapping the Shuttle Wheel toggles between Play and Pause.

ZOOM DIAL With the Zoom dial, you can zoom in and out your timeline. By pressing the Zoom dial, all material is fit into timeline view.

WORKSPACE 2: COLOR This workspace is dedicated to the color grading tools that Final Cut Pro X offers. Using CT dials and the wheel is intuitive and gives you very precise control over your work. You can access all 4 Color Wheels, the Color Board, Color Curves and Hue/Saturation Curves that FCPX offers via a blue page link on CT.

• Color Wheels • Color Board • Curves / Hue Sat

Tip!: With CT, you can color grade using Color Wheels in Full Screen Mode. The Master Color Wheel opens on CT wheel when you enter the Color Workspace so that you can start adjusting right away. A Color Wheels Effect is added automatically. It takes about 4 swipes to move the indicator from the center to the edge of the color wheel.

WITH DIALS, ROTATE TO ADJUST • Temperature • Tint • Contrast • Mix Grade

WITH MASTER COLOR WHEEL:

• SWIPE on wheel to adjust Color Value • ROTATE the wheel to adjust Brightness • Fn + Rotate the wheel to adjust Saturation

When you open the blue link “Color Wheels” you can choose between the different Color Wheels

• Master • Shadows • Midtones • Highlights

Depending on which controls you want to have displayed on CT, open the page link for dials or wheel and all available color controls are already laid out for you and ready to adjust by rotating wheel / dials. You can access the same controls on the CT wheel and dials, choose what feels best for you. You could also display e.g. Shadows on dials and Highlights on the wheel at the same time. As an alternative to pressing page links, you can access all touch, wheel and dial pages again by swiping on the displays.

NOTE!: On a color wheel page, remember to press Fn + horizontal swipe, otherwise your swiping will result in a color adjustment. Tip!: One dial of each color wheel dial page is assigned with "10 Frames" Navigation so that you can quickly check applied adjustments throughout the whole clip, or copy and paste Attributes with the round buttons 7 and Fn + 8 to another clip. You can undo your changes by pressing the dial or double tap on the wheel or remove the whole effect by pressing the touch button “Remove FX”.

Page 16: USER GUIDE FOR LOUPEDECK CT & FINAL CUT PRO X...LOUPEDECK CT & FINAL CUT PRO X To make using Loupedeck CT as intuitive as possible for Final Cut Pro X, all the actions are divided

COLOR BOARD: If not already done, make sure to open Color Inspector within FCPX. You can click “Show Color Inspector” in order to do so. When you get into the blue link for “Color Board” you need to manually “Add Board Fx” by tapping the touch pad button. You can toggle between Color Tab, Saturation Tab and Exposure Tab. Open the “Mouse Tool” so that it shows on the CT Wheel and hover your mouse pointer over the desired point on the Color Board Panel in FCPX. Rotate the wheel to move the point vertically or horizontally. You can switch “Selected Effect On/Off” to see like a “Before / After” or remove the whole effect and start over by adding another Board FX. CURVES / HUE / SATUATION Accessing Curves inside FCPX is fast and easy, as rotating the wheel automatically sets a point on the curve when you have navigated the mouse pointer close enough to the curve. When you get into the blue link for “Curves/HueSat” you can choose whether to “Add Curves FX” or “Add HueSat FX” by tapping the touch pad buttons. Both work with the corresponding “Mouse Tool” opened on the CT wheel. Start rotating the “Mouse Tool” wheel and you will find out how smooth and precise it works as there is separate controls for horizontal and vertical movement. You can add as many points to a curve as you want. NOTE!: The selected action on the wheel is indicated by a stronger blue line around it. You can switch “Selected Effect On/Off” to see like a “Before / After” or remove the whole effect and start over by adding another Effect.

WORKSPACE 3: AUDIO For any audio work, you probably want to enlarge the height of your audio tracks first. You can do that by rotating the dial “Adjust Waveform” on the left side of the touch display.

To adjust the over-all volume, select the clip(s) you wish to adjust with your mouse, or click “Select All” on the touch pad to select all clips on your timeline, and rotate the wheel. Double tapping on “volume” resets the value to 0db and removes possible keyframes.

Page 18: USER GUIDE FOR LOUPEDECK CT & FINAL CUT PRO X...LOUPEDECK CT & FINAL CUT PRO X To make using Loupedeck CT as intuitive as possible for Final Cut Pro X, all the actions are divided

Fade In / Fade Out There are several ways to create fade-ins or fade-outs on the audio portion of a clip or an audio component in FinalCutPro X. Press “Apply Audio Fades” button on the touch pad to create fades using fade handles: You can use fade handles to create manual fade-ins and fade-outs on the audio portion of a clip or an audio component in the timeline. Fade handles appear in the top-left and top-right corners of the audio waveform when you place the pointer over the clip.

Note!: Fades created using fade handles override crossfades created by a transition. Tap “Toggle Fade InAudio” or “Toggle Fade Out Audio” icons if you wantonly a Fade In or Fade Outseparately.

If you want full control over yourfades,e.g. in orderto turn down the volume of the back-ground music during an interview or voice overor to emphasizecertain sounds,we sug-gesttoset keyframes to yourselectedaudio clipwith“Add KF” action.

When you have setseveralkeyframes, you can selectspecifickeyframes with the Range Tooland change theirvalue.Simply tap“Range Tool”on the wheel and drag the desired range with mouse.Rotate thedial “Nudge Vertically”to change theirvalueprecisely.

Note!: A keyframe has to be selected (indicated by yellow color) before you can nudge it up or down.

Page 19: USER GUIDE FOR LOUPEDECK CT & FINAL CUT PRO X...LOUPEDECK CT & FINAL CUT PRO X To make using Loupedeck CT as intuitive as possible for Final Cut Pro X, all the actions are divided

“Nudge Vertically”changes the value ofsingleselectedkeyframe(s)“Volume” changes values proportionallyand a clip needs to be selected. “Nudge Horizontally” can be used totrim selected Edit point(s). Default Transition In order to add a default transition with media handles, select a clip or edge of a clip (an edit point), then click “Transition” on the CT touch display.

When you add a transition to a video clip with attached audio, FinalCutPro X automatically applies a crossfade transition to the audio. If the audio is detached or expanded from the video, the crossfade is not applied. But you can add it separately to an audio clip. Note!: The selected action on the wheel is indicated by a stronger blue line around it. Tip!: Pressing Fn and rotating the wheel jumps to the next action on wheel pages with several actions (list, cake layout etc.)

MORE QUESTIONS? Encountered something unexpected? Here are a few helpful hints. My Premiere doesn’t seem to work with Loupedeck CT. Check your Final Cut Pro version. Loupedeck CT is compatible with Final Cut Pro (most recent version). I am unable to install Loupedeck Setup. Loupedeck setup is compatible with Mac® OS 10.12 or later. Loupedeck software also requires a 64-bit OS version. Some of the actions don’t work. Make sure you have your keyboard language set to English. Some actions do not work properly with Scandinavian and German layouts, for example. You can find FAQs and support at www.loupedeck.com/support.
