One of my biggest selling art prints was commissioned in 1995 by Sun
Microsystems, Canada as Service Award for Employees who had reached 15 years
of service.

Throughout the next several weeks I will be sharing the process that I go through to create a large collage
project.

Part 1
Reference PhotographyHere are the reference photographs that will be in U.S.A. Coast to Coast #1, a limited edition print that will be available in time for the 4th of July, laid out in their rough geographic positions in the shape of the U.S of A.
The beginnings of the creative process…I start initially with a pencil sketch using the photo as a reference which I might modify to fit into my concept. The overall composition exists in my brain and needs to make it to the finish line. I go over the pencil lines with pen and ink. The drawing of each individual panel might take two or three hours. The 5 drawings above constitute a days work.
Why I love my work!What I love about the picture above is that I SEE a good days work. Nothing makes me feel happier than getting engaged in a new project that captures my creative imagination. It’s a real motivator and rush!!
They’re starting to add upNineteen out of possibly thirty individual images that will ultimately come together into the collage through stage one (drawing and outlining in ink) and ready for stage two – COLOUR!!!
