COURSE DESCRIPTION AND STATEMENT OF NEED Approximately 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer over
the course of her lifetime. Uterine cancer is the most common gynecologic malignancy
in women and ovarian ranks fifth in cancer deaths among women, accounting for more
deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system.
Given that most primary care providers who care for women will be involved in the
difficult decisions and experiences of a patient dealing with breast or gynecologic cancers,
it is important that these clinicians are aware of current treatment and management
options so that they can provide the support, education, and advocacy for patients
diagnosed with these malignancies.
Expert faculty will provide conference participants with the latest updates in risk assessment,
screening, and prevention for cancer and cardiovascular health in women. A unique
feature of this year’s conference is a keynote lecture by Dr. JoAnn Manson, lead author of
the VITaminD and OmegaA-3 trial.
TARGET AUDIENCE This educational activity will be designed to address the educational needs of: physicians,
fellows/residents and allied healthcare professionals in the field of family medicine,
internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, oncology, radiology and surgery.
