DID YOU KNOW? The orange construction bollards are still in place in many sections in the northern part of Southport-Burleigh Road as upgrade works are still ongoing. The main works to be completed include the intersection upgrades, the final layer of asphalt and completion of the two bridge widenings. Once all works are completed in the remaining sections, the new third lane will open to traffic and the bollards will be removed.

SAFETY TIP: If you’re riding your bicycle along the new shared pathway, please be mindful and

courteous when you approach pedestrians. Ring your bell to signal your approach and slow down as

you pass.

Enjoy your weekend and have a great Australia Day next Thursday!

Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is upgrading an 8-kilometre section of Southport-Burleigh Road (High Street, Ferry Road, Bundall Road and Bermuda Street).

As a part of this upgrade, new electrical cable will be installed in the centre median of the Smith Street Motorway and a small section of North Street between High Street and Hospital Boulevard, Southport. This work will be carried out by TMR’s contractor – BMD Constructions – as part of their Southport-Burleigh Road northern section upgrade. It will occur at night from Sunday 29 January and is expected to take up to one week to complete. What to expect

Changed traffic conditions at night on the Smith Street Motorway and North Street between High Street and Hospital Boulevard (just before Parklands Drive). Sections of the lanes closest to the centre median on both sides of the road will be closed and a reduced speed limit will be in place. To avoid delays, motorists should seek alternative routes, when possible.

Some noise from construction vehicles and machinery although these works are not expected to be overly noisy.

Access to surrounding homes, businesses and facilities will be maintained at all times.

Work hours To keep traffic flowing and for the safety of everyone involved, works that require lane closures can generally only occur at night when traffic flows are at their lowest. These works will occur at night Sunday to Thursday from 8pm to 5am. The project thanks the community for their patience and understanding during these important upgrade works. BMD’s Southport-Burleigh Road northern section upgrade works are on target to be complete in early-mid 2017.

Work is continuing at Benowa Canal Bridge on Bundall Road, as part of Transport and Main Road’s northern upgrade of Southport-Burleigh Road (High Street, Ferry Road and Bundall Road).

On Sunday 29 January from 6pm, asphalt will be installed across Benowa Canal Bridge on the northbound (One 50 Public House/ Corporate Centre) side of the bridge.

Traffic changes

During these works, temporary traffic changes will be in place on Bundall Road between Karp Court and Slatyer Avenue.

From 6pm, a single lane closure will be in place on Bundall Road.

From 7pm, both traffic lanes on the northbound carriageway will be closed.

During this time, one lane in each direction (northbound and southbound) will be provided on the southbound (Rowing Club) side of Bundall Road. See map on reverse.

What to expect

Changed traffic conditions including reduced speed limits.

Noise from construction vehicles and machinery including profiling and asphalt trucks.

Access to Holden Place businesses will be maintained, although points of access will change. Traffic controllers and police will be in place to direct motorists.

Pedestrian access will continue to be provided on the southbound side of the bridge. Please walk around the works via the traffic signals at Karp Court and Slatyer Avenue/Thomas Drive.

Work hours

As lane closures are required, to keep local traffic moving and for the safety of everyone involved, these works can only occur at night when traffic flows are at their lowest. These night works will occur from 6pm to 6am. BMD’s upgrade works in the northern section of Southport-Burleigh Road are on target to be complete in early-mid 2017. The project thanks local businesses and residents for their patience and understanding during these important upgrade works.
