The SeaWolves took an early lead with a two-run homer in the second by Wade Gaynor. A sac fly by Mel Rojas Jr. cut the lead in half in the fourth, but Erie put the game away with three runs in the seventh and three more in the ninth. Jason Creasy (8-3) gave up five runs (three earned) on seven hits over 6.1 innings. Stetson Allie and Andy Vasquez had the only two hits for the Curve. Josh Bell had his season-best nine-game hing streak snapped. The Curve have now lost four mes in the last five games, going back to a double-header sweep by Richmond on Saturday. The Curve swept the first two sets, one at Jerry Uht Park and one at PNG Field, to begin the season series this year, and began the season 8-0 against the SeaWolves. In his last oung, the right-hander struck out a season-high nine baers against Richmond on Thursday and ed a career-best mark with seven innings pitched. In his last start before the All-Star Break, Glasnow pitched six one-hit, scoreless innings in a win over Harrisburg. Overall, he has not allowed a run in his last 13.1 in- nings. Aſter injuring his ankle sliding into second base on May 6 against Richmond, Glasnow made one more brief start for Altoona before being placed on the disabled list. While working his way back, he made two rebah starts for the short-season West Virginia Black Bears of the New York Penn League, posng a 3.38 ERA over 5.1 innings. Glas- now was the Florida State League Pitcher of the Year in 2014 and won the same award in the South Atlanc League in 2013. He is currently ranked as the Pirates’ top prospect, and Baseball America rated him as the seventh-best prospect in all of baseball at this year’s midseason update. For more on Glasnow, see page two. In game two, right-hander Ma Benedict takes the hill for the Curve, making his 10th start for Altoona to go along with four appearances out of the bullpen. As a starter, Benedict is 4-3 with a 4.26 ERA, compared to a 0-1, 10.80 mark in relief oungs. June was his best month so far, when the former Western Carolina Catamount went 3-0 with a 3.09 ERA in six games. For more on Benedict, see page three. FOR ERIE: Right-hander Ausn Kubitza makes his 18th start of the year for Erie. In his last oung, he picke up a loss aſter allowing two earned runs on four hits over four innings against Akron on July 16. He last faced the Curve on July 8, allowing seven earned runs on nine hits over 4.1 innings at Jerry Uht Park. The former Rice Owl is the Detroit Tigers’ eight-ranked prospect according to Baseball America entering the 2015 season. Australian-born right-hander Warwick Saupold starts game two for the SeaWolves. It will be his 14th start of the year, along with five relief oungs. He last faced the Curve on June 5 at Jerry Uht Park, picking up a loss aſter allowing three earned runs on 11 hits over six innings. Saupold is in his third season with Erie and was an Eastern League All- Star in 2013. SETTING THE TABLE: Adam Frazier was on fire in June, bang .424 (28/66) with a home run and eight RBI, raising his overall average from .293 on June 1 to .363 at the end of the month. Frazier has assumed the everyday leadoff dues, and when bang at the top of the order this season he is hing .364 (51/140) in 35 games and .469 (15/32) in the first inning. He had a career-best 15-game hing streak snapped on Thursday night at Richmond. Entering tonight’s game, however, Frazier is 2-for-his-last-19. MAX ATTACKS: Infielder Max Moroff has connued his hot hing into July. His 115 hits are the most in the league and he sits second with his .322 average. His .389 on-base percentage is the fourth-best, he is seventh with 41 walks and first with 58 runs scored. Aſter compiling a 30-game on-base streak and an 11-game hing streak earlier this season, he went on a 12-game hing streak in June. Moroff is on pace for 174 hits this season, which would break the record for most by a Curve switch hier, set by Shawn Garre at 142 in 2002. The overall franchise record for the most hits in a season is 178, set by Starling Marte in 2011. HATS FOR BATS, KEEP BATS WARM: The Curve are leading the 12-team Eastern League in bang average with a .273 clip entering play tonight. Aſter bang .248 in April, the Curve have baed .281 (701/2499) as a team since May 1. The Curve have four acve players hing .300 or beer -- Josh Bell (.315), Adam Frazier (.349), Dan Gamache (.316) and Max Moroff (.322). However, of those baers, only Bell and Moroff have enough at-bats to qualify for the league leader board. JUST JOSHIN’ YA: First baseman Josh Bell enters today’s game owning a .315 average that is fiſth in the Eastern League. ROAD TO THE SHOW: Former Curve relief pitcher Diego Moreno made his MLB debut on June 22, becoming the 118th Altoona Curve alumnus to reach the big leagues.
