ABOUT LAST NIGHT ...: Using a prolifc running attack, the Harrisburg Senators extended their league lead in stolen bases with seven more while blowing by the Curve 5-1 in Tuesday’s series opener o three at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Je Kobernus led the way or the Senators, swiping our bags on his own, while Destin Hood, Chris Rahl, and Eury Perez each added a steal o their own. The Curve got a three-hit perormance with their lone run batted in rom Matt Curry who lited his average to .321 and another hit rom red-hot Adalberto Santos (.457) but went 2-or-10 with run- ners in scoring position in the loss. Mike Colla was charged with fve runs, though just one was earned, on eight hits over his fve innings. CURVE/HARRISBURG SERIES: In a virtual repeat o the team’s last road trip, Altoona now welcomes the Harrisburg Senators (AA - Nationals) to town or a three-game set Tuesday through Thursday. We’ll see a pair o rematches in the series as Mike Colla and Je Mandel will square o on Tuesday (Mandel earned win last week) and Nathan Baker and Danny Rosenbaum meet up on W ednesday (Rosenba um got the win). Harrisburg took the series last week at Metro Bank Park, 2-1, but enters this set still trailing in the all-time series at 136-110. FOR ALTOONA: Ater two outstanding starts to begin the year, Nathan Baker came back to earth at Harrisburg a week ago. Over 2.2 innings, Baker walked a career high-tying our batters and yielded fve runs (our earned) on our hits in his shortest outing o the year en route to the deeat. Beore that , Baker had surrendered just one earned run in his frst 11 innings this year while picking up wins over the Erie SeaWolves and Richmond Flying Squirrels. The 24-year- old was a fth-round drat selection by the Pirates out o Ole Miss in 2009 and spent all o last year in Bradenton, going 10-8 with a 3.34 ERA over 29 appearances or the Marauders. For more on Baker, see page two. FOR HARRISBURG: Last week in Harrisburg, lety Danny Rosenbaum dominated the Curve. The Ohio native and 22nd-round drat selection o the Washington organization in 2009 pitched a complete-game victory over Altoona, surrendering just one unearned run on our hits, striking out nine and not walking a single batter . Rosenbaum got an impressive 14 outs on the ground that game and overmatched Curve hitters throughout the night. The Xavier Uni- versity procut enters this start with the third-best ERA in the Eastern League at 1.25, just two spots behind last night’ s Senators starter, righty Je Mandel. Rosenbaum’s complete game was the frst in the E.L. this season. RUNNING WILD: Tuesda y night’s s eries opener with the Senators provided a juxtaposition o two compl etely dier ent oenses. Harrisburg used its considerable speed to steal seven bases on Curve pitchers and catcher Tony Sanchez.  Tuesd ay starter Mike Colla and reliever Kris Harvey have been especially victimized by opposing baserunners. 14 times, opponents have tried to steal with Colla and Harvey on the hill, and 14 times, they’ve been successul. Behind the plate, Sanchez has thrown out just our o 25 potential basestealers (16.0%). On the ip side, the Curve have stolen  just over hal o Harrisburg ’s Tuesda y total all seaso n. Altoona has only p ilered our bags as a t eam in 2012. CURRYING FAVOR: Curve frst baseman Matt Curry has ound a good groove at the plate over his last couple o weeks. Dating back nine games, the TCU product is batting .324, incl uding a .412 mark in his last our. Now riding a six-game hitting streak, over the course o which he’s batted .375 (9-or-24), Curry has boosted his batting average 40 points since April 15 rom .281 to .321. Tuesday night, Curry rapped three hits and drove in the game’s only Curve run. THE SPACE BETWEEN:  The Curve ha ven’t pla yed many clos e games this seas on. In act, only our o Altoona ’s 16 contests to this point have been decided by one or two runs. In the other 12 games decided by three runs or more, the Curve are 5-7 ater Tuesday night’s 5-1 series-opening loss to the Senators. DR. STRANGEGLOVE : The Curve made two more d eensive miscues on Tuesday in their opener with Harrisburg and now have 26 on the season, tied or most in the 12-team Eastern League. Only New Hampshire has made as many er- rors as the . Statistic ally speaking, however, Altoona has the worst felding percentage in the league at .958. CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR: Outfelder Adalberto Santos made a run at the Eastern League Oensive Player o the Week award last week, batting 12-or-22 (.545) with six runs scored, our doubles, seven RBI, three walks and one stolen base. All seven o the RBI have come in the last two games o the Richmond series, and over his last our games, Santos is 10-or-16 with our doubles and six runs scored. He lost out to Binghamton’ s Josh Rodriguez or the E.L. award, who hit .500 or the w eek with two homers, two doubles, seven RBI and seven runs scored. Santos added another hit on  Tuesd ay night, and e ntering play o n We dnesday , the Bronx, N.Y . native is hitting . 457. DISSECTING THE NUMBERS: Altoona enters Wednesday hitting .252 as a team, which is 9th-best in the league. What’s odd about the ranking is that the team has the ewest strikeouts among any team in the league (109) and has an on-base percentage o .333, which is tied or fth-best in the circuit.  They’ve been q uite good at p laying small ba ll as well, pacing the circuit with 15 sacrifce bunts (next closest team has 10, Richmond).
