SERIES AT A GLANCE: The Squirrels and Mets will play the finale of a three game series this afternoon from NYSEG Stadium at 1:05. Richmond snapped a seven game losing streak on Tuesday with a commanding 9-3 win over the Mets. Richmond is 1-6 on the current road trip but have an opportunity to win consecutive games for the first time since 6/8 - a span of 37 games.This is the only trip for the Squirrels to Binghamton this season and the last series between the two teams this year. . Yesterday: BINGHAMTON, NY – The Richmond Flying Squirrels (43-53) defeated the Binghamton Mets (59-35), 9-3, to snap their seven-game losing streak at NYSEG Stadium on Tuesday night. The win was the first for the Squirrels on their current road trip and allowed them to avoid establishing a new franchise record for longest losing skid.Javier Herrera led off the ballgame with a double that banged off the right-field wall against Binghamton lefty Angel Cuan. Joe Panik bunted Herrera to third and Mark Minicozzi gave the Squirrels a 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly to right field. It marked the first lead the Squirrels had enjoyed since the first game of the road trip in Bowie.The Squirrels got back after Cuan in the third inning. Herrera was the catalyst, pulling a one-out single into left field. Panik followed with a single into right field to put two aboard. Minicozzi then rolled a single through the left-side of the infield. Herrera scored from second for a 2-0 lead. Angel Villalona flew out, but Andrew Susac roped a double into the left-field corner. Panik scored for a 3-0 advantage, but Minicozzi was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.The Squirrels put the game away in the seventh inning. Lefty Chase Hollingsworth came on in relief of Cuan and was greeted by a bunt-single from Ryan Lollis. Hollingsworth then walked Gloor to put two aboard. Hollingsworth got the first two outs, but Minicozzi reached on an error to load the bases. The Squirrels took full advantage of the extra out at Villalona lifted a grand slam to right field TODAY’S PITCHERS: RHP Craig Westcott (3-9, 3.82) vs. RHP Noah Syndergaard (2-0, 1.35) RHP Craig Westcott will make his 19th start of the season and his first of the year against the Mets. Westcott will be working on four days rest and last time out went: 4.0IP, 6H, 2R, ER, 5BB, 3K on 88 pitches - 48 for strikes in a 5-2 loss to Bowie in game one of a doubleheader on Friday. Westcott had runners on in each of the five frames he participated in. He opened up the fifth inning with a walk and consecutive singles before being replaced by Josh Osich. Osich proceeded to strike out the next three batters to end the inning. The Squirrels have gone 3-15 in games started by Westcott this season and went 14-14 in his starts last season. The team has lost his last eigth starts and left-handed hitters are batting .335 against him this season. Westcott will be making his third career start against the Mets. RHP Noah Syndergaard will make fifth Double-A start and his first appearance since starting the XM Futures Game at Citi FIeld on Sunday. In that outing, Syndergaard tossed a scoreless inning with a hit and a strike out in a 4-2 win over the World team. Excluding that outing, Syndergaard will be pitching on five days rest and last time out went: 2.0IP, H, 0R, 0BB, 3K on 30 pitches - 19 for strikes ina no decision vs. Portland on Thursday of last week. Syndergaard was promoted to Binghamton on 6/23 and picked up the win in his debut with six innings pitched (two runs).The 20-year old was rated as the Blue Jays #2 prospect by Baseball America entering the season and the #54 prospect in all of MILB. Syndergaard was shipped to New York along with catcher Travis d’Arnaud, Wuimer Beccerra and John Buck for R.A. Dickey, Mike Nickeas and Josh Tole.Was initially selected in the supplemental round of the 2010 draft out of Legacy High School (TX). He was the Blue Jays supplemental compensation for not singing their 2009 pick James Paxton. FULL PLATE: Javier Herrera scored four times on Tuesday in the Squirrels 9-3 win over Binghamton to snap a seven-game skid. It was the first time Herrera has scored four times in one game this season and the first time he has accomplished the feat since plating four runs on 5/24/07 in a game at Visalia in the California League. A DENNY’S SPECIALTY: Angel Villalona smashed a grand slam in the seventh inning on Tuesday to launch the Squirrels to a 9-3 win over the Mets. It was the second grand slam for Richmond this season and the first since Jarrett Parker drove home four runs with one swing on 5/6 vs. Bowie. For Villalona, it was his third career grand slam and his first since 8/17/08 against the Lexington Legends. INHERITANCE TAX: Not much has gone right for the Squirrels recently and that includes the bullpen entering when runners are on base. Richmond relievers have allowed 22 of the past 28 inherited baserunners to score over the past ten games. ALL STAR REWARDS: Richmond was well represented in Wednesday’s All-Star game in New Britain.The Squirrels sent seven players to the mid-summer classic and outfielder Javier Herrera took home MVP honors. Herrera gave the West an early 3-0 lead in the first inning with a home run. Herrera homered off Portland’s Anthony Raunado as the Western Division won 5-0.
