What if my child is absent from school? Parents must provide an explanation to the school within 7 days of the first day of any period of absence. This can be done on our school App or our convenient slips (attached to Bulletin or obtained from the office) or a note written to the teacher explaining why your child/ren missed school. If the school does not receive an explanation of the absence from the parents within 7 days, the office will send a letter to parents. Exemptions can no longer be granted for holidays and travel (regardless of reason). Please refer to the the link below on Compulsory School attendance: https://education.nsw.gov.au/wellbeing-and-learning/media/documents/attendance-behaviour-engagement/attendance/attendance_parents.pdf
Mobile Phones I again remind all parents that students needing mobile phones must leave them at the office every morning. If your child needs a mobile phone (which is not generally the case for primary aged students), please make sure they are aware that they are to remain in the office. Again, students run the risk of losing the privilege of having a mobile phone at school if the phone impacts on the child’s learning.
Swimming Carnival All of our Year 3-6 (and 8-year-old Year 2) students are getting excited about next Thursday’s school swimming carnival (21 Feb) … Galston Aquatic Centre, Galston. We would love your support on the day. Please keep in mind, the day is for all eligible students; it is expected that all students attend, even if they do not want to swim. We would love parents to join in the fun… do not lose focus that the swimmers are kids! Encourage, laugh and wave pom poms!!! As adults we all need to remind children that competition is great as long as we don’t raise bad losers, or worse still, bad winners! In anticipation of what is bound to be a great day, thanks to Mr Gornalle, the staff assisting him and the many parents who have already volunteered to be officials. See you at the pool!
Parent, Student, Teacher Interviews Three-way interviews have been scheduled for week 8 of this term. As a result of our new interview arrangements there will be no meet the teacher this week and you will receive a term overview from your child’s teacher this Friday.
GYMNASTICS this TERM A big thank you to Mr Gornalle and Mr Ure who gained a school grant for gymnastics lessons for all our students. 4/5U, 4R, 5/6P & 6B will attend gymnastics lessons every Wednesday until 13 March. Other classes will be informed at the end of this term who will be taking the lessons next term. Gymnastics is booked for Wednesday afternoons from week 3 to week 7. Times are as follows: 4R and 4/5U - 2:15 5/6P and 6B - 2.45 Sessions go for 30 minutes. Students may wear their sports uniform on Wednesday.
School Photo Day You will soon receive your photo envelopes. Our school photo day is Tuesday, 2nd April. Captains, House Captains, SRC, Green Team and Library monitors and family photos will be taken as group photos this year. If you require a family photo, special envelopes can be obtained from the office. If you would like any further information, please contact the school office on 96521237.
Selective high schools placement test 14 March
The selective high schools test is held annually for Year 6 students wishing to enter a selective government high school. For key dates, online applications and more information for parents, see https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7/application-process
Working with Children Check Any adult volunteer in the school who has direct contact with children must complete a Declaration for Volunteers form at the office and produce proof of identity that meets the 100-point check. If you have completed this form, in previous years, this stays on file for your child’s primary school years and you do not have to complete it again. Only new volunteers are required to complete this paperwork. Please see the office ladies if you need to complete the paperwork.
Text Books and Voluntary Contributions We would like to thank the many parents who have paid for voluntary contributions and textbook packs. Whilst we understand that we are asking for a lot of money at the moment (carnivals, text books, etc), all money paid is going directly to your child’s education. As all teachers have commenced using text books, we ask that you pay for the text book packs as soon as possible. If you have any concerns, please contact your child’s classroom teacher or Mrs Pearce.
The next P&C meeting will be held on Tuesday 26th February, 7pm, Staffroom.
We need your support

Safer Internet Day On Thursday morning, students in Years 4, 5 and
6 joined with hundreds of other schools to attend
a virtual excursion as part of ‘Safer Internet Day’.
The theme for the morning was 'Your Digital
Super Power'.
The online lesson encouraged students to create a
better internet by developing four critical skills:
Respect, Responsibility, Reasoning and
Resilience. The students and their teachers
discussed personal and social capabilities that are
important for creating positive online environments and communicating online with respect and
responsibility.
Mrs Harmon
The library is open to all students on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at lunchtime. Students come to read books, borrow resources, colour in pictures, play chess or trains and generally enjoy the beautiful, air conditioned space with their friends.
Here are a few shots of students loving lunchtimes in the library.

P & C News
Can you help in our P & C? A BIG thank you to the 60 families that have returned their “Just One Thing” Campaign note – if you still have
your form yet to complete, we would love it returned ASAP.
Remember if we all do “Just One Thing” it will lighten the load for some that do too much at our school already!
The responses have been compiled and sent to the staff at school and to the P&C coordinators. They will be
contacting you for help throughout the year.
Canteen Roster The canteen roster has been updated and the new volunteers have been added – if you volunteered please check
your emails.
Before commencing your Canteen shift – please sign in at the office and then go directly to the canteen and the
coordinator for the day will get you started.
Working with Children Check Any new volunteer working in the school assisting the P&C, you must complete a form at the office and show
100 point identification check so please take your wallet with you.
Stay in touch with what is happening with your school… Each week the P & C will report important information via the school newsletter.
The P&C control and operate the Canteen, Uniform shop, all fundraising and OOSH. Volunteers work hard
behind the scenes to keep everything running like clockwork – all we ask is for some help from the families by
volunteering when they can and reading the newsletter to stay informed of changes and upcoming events.
We also have a Facebook Page – Glenoire Public School P & C Events – that you can like and see important
notices on there too.
P & C meeting Our first P & C meeting for 2019 will be held on 26th February, 7pm in the staffroom. Everyone is welcome to
attend.

Fundraising News In 2019 we will have two fundraising events:

20th September 2019 for our Colour Run.
More details are to come.
OOSH News Enrolments and bonds of $50 per child enrolled are now due at the OOSH – please co-operate with Rita in
finalising your enrolment form. The cut-off date for all BOND payments is 22nd February 2019. Bonds payable
are fully refundable when you no longer require the service. Failure to pay your bond by this day will see your
enrolment revoked.
Please contact the OOSH on 9652 0074 if you have any question in relation to the OOSH program and
availabilities for your children to attend. Please ensure if your child can not attend an OOSH session that you call
and cancel so you are not charged for the service, plus it gives other families the opportunity to use the service if
required.
Dear parents and caregivers,
This year our students will again be using textbooks and school magazines to support their learning
and for homework.
Class teachers worked together to identify the most appropriate texts for each class (stage) each year.
The following is a list of the texts that your child will use in 2019. Texts will be used from early Term
One. It would be greatly appreciated if you purchase your child’s textbook package by Week 2 Term
1.
The P&C and school have worked together to identify a fair and reasonable voluntary contribution fee
to request from families on an annual basis. Each year the Department of Education provides schools
with a budget for general operations. P&C cover the cost of Mathletics and Reading Eggs for your
child. Additional fundraising and the collection of School Contributions allow schools to purchase
items to further support the educational needs of students.
A technology fee is included to support and supply your child with their own Notebook or iPad at
school and connect you with your child via SeeSaw.
Our school’s global budget is used to purchase and maintain most items that you see within our school
(excluding permanent staff members’ salaries). We are responsible for purchasing books, pencils,
games, computer software, toilet paper, … virtually everything. The additional funds collected will
allow us to purchase more equipment, books, maths games, computers, … for YOUR child.
Many local schools charge high amounts for school contributions. Our goal is to keep the amount
affordable to ensure all families can contribute.
Please complete the slip below and return it to your child’s classroom teacher with correct money or
cheque (made out to Glenorie Public School) or pay online by Friday 8th February 2019. Part
payment will not be accepted.
Thank you for supporting your child’s classroom teacher by ensuring that you pay for above items as
soon as possible.
Students will be issued with their textbooks as their payment is processed. So it is important to make
this payment on or before the due day.
Any families experiencing financial difficulties and are unable to purchase our textbook package
should contact Mrs Pearce.
Enjoy Learning!
