    EVENTS HISTORY

    The organization has three Constitutionally-

    mandated events: KwenKap, Workshop, and

    Sining Series.

Freelikula was originally a part ofSining Seriesbut bureaucratic changes in mid-2009 led to

    Freelikula being a stand-alone activity.

    Among the organizations activities, the

KwenKap is the least distinguished primarily

    because every organization does it.

Sining Series became the most convenient event,

    as it requires minimal participation.

    EVENTS HISTORY

Prior to Gagita, the last major

KwenKap/Workshop held by the organization is

Sining Natin, Buhayin Natin!as part of the

    organizations 3

    rd

    anniversary (A

STEruggle) The Estetiko February Event is the most

disastrous in the organizations history. Not only

did we cancel events, almost all of the

    organizations trademark events were scrapped

    and replaced with convenient fillers.

Since Sentenaryo, the organization aimed to have

the following events during February: KwenKap,

    Workshop, Sining Series, and Exhibit

    STATE OF THE EXHIBIT

The last successful exhibit the organization held

was in 2009 with ASTEruggle. The best exhibit

however was held in 2008 with Sentenaryo.

None of the major artists from 2009 returned in2010. Estetiko, by far, is the least successful

    exhibit the organization held.

Despite its terrible performance, the 2010 exhibit

is the first to have a theme: Seeing Whole in

Multiplicity, tied to the February Events theme,

EstetiKO: Sarili bilang bumubuo sa lipunan o

    lipunang binubuo ng sama-samang Sarili.

    STATE OF THE KWENKAP

After Sining Natin, Buhayin Natin, there were

sporadic attempts to revive the KwenKap.

Informal KwenKaps have been introduced in

2008 to revitalize small-group settings theoriginal idea for the KwenKap. Beginning 2008

however, the KwenKap has been envisioned as a

magnum opus of all events held by CAL

    Organizations.

Prior to Gagita, the last formal KwenKap as a

stand-alone activity cannot be recalled. It has

    gone beyond recent memory.

    STATE OF THE WORKSHOP

On a normal basis, the organization holds 4-7Workshops every semester since 2007. Lastsemester, we only had two: Sculpture andKabuki.

Since 2010, the organization relies on theapplication process to produce a larger-than-lifeWorkshop, putting the burden of ourshortcomings to the applicants.

Asterisk IDOLandBanda Rito Banda Roon werecriticized based on three tenets: (1) Lack ofpromotion, (2) Lack of preparation, and (3) Failedexecution These reflect the incapacity of theorganization to transfer what we know down tothe applicants.

    STATE OF THE SINING SERIES

Prior to 2010, the organization would be lucky

enough to hold at least ONE collective Sining

    Series.

One neglected aspect of the Sining Series is theField Trip. Although logistically impossible, field

trips provide members and applicants with much-

    needed exposure.

Art exhibits are poorly-attended by members,

reflecting the diversity of our tastes and

preferences. Although abysmal, we should at

least try to focus on reviving this aspect as it

caters specifically to Art Studies majors.

    WHYIT HAS COME TO THIS

The last special assembly enumerated three

particular reasons why were not functioning the

    way we should be.

    y Laziness

    y Academic-centrism

    y Tambay

Varying tastes and preferences also prevent

members from being involved in what others

    interests are.

    GENERAL COMMENTS

In every big-time event, the priority of allmembers should be theguests. We should not beprimadonnas sitting around and waiting to beserved. While attendees are appreciated,

organization members are expected to work. Small-time or informal events can be intimate

provided that we do not constrain or pressureourselves much just because we want somethingto be a success. If we can talk like acquaintances

or friends in the kubo, informal events shouldalso have the same vibe.

Never forget to have fun. Remember that we areall members following a set of principles andobjectives NEVER SHYAWAYFROM IT.

    11/27

    GENERAL COMMENTS

The Academics Committee should not be

expected to cover the entire event. Standing

committees who have nothing to do during the

event itself can be assigned to do other things.

Case in point: Gagita. The Internals Committee

    took charge ofLogistics.

Sec, Pub, Fin, and Extes tasks do not stop with

simple promoting and walking papers. They can

be involved in decision-making processes relatedto the events of the organization.

    One simple rule: CONSULT.

Another simple rule: If you cant do it, dont do it.

    12/27

    SIMPLE PRACTICABILITYTEST

    Are members willingto do it?

Are members ready to do it?

Is the organization capable of handling such

tasks and responsibilities? Does the event advance orpromote our principles

    and objectives?

Does the event advance orpromote our interests?

    WHAT WE CAN DO

Be involved in the planning process share

ideas, events, and other interests that you think

will contribute to the organizations welfare

Try something different, for a changeDont think of events as something you wouldnt

like. Learning something new is always a good

conversation point, or find others who share the

    same passion as you

Finish everything you need to finish by

4PM so that there will be more time for

Tambay Business first policy. Save chikahan

    for later.

    PROJECT PLANNING

There are three basic tenets to a successful

project plan: (1) Timeliness, (2) Practicability

    and; (3) Returns

Given the organization highlights alternativeover mainstream, timeliness therefore should be

a criticism orjudgment of a prevailing mood or

    preference.

    racticability involves managing resources,

    effective utilization of manpower, and

    resourcefulness.

Returns ask the question: What happens after

    this?

    CREATING A TIMELINE

A timeline is a detailed framework of all events

the organization wants to hold until the end of a

    semester.

Normally, events need at least TWO weeksinterval so that members are better prepared.

COMPONENTS OF A GOOD PROJECT PLAN

Clarity Everyone should understand WHY and

    HOW

Brevity Make everyone understand by keeping

it simple and clean. Consistency Events should always promote

something from the organizations principles and

    objectives.

    FOLLOW-THROUGH

Every good event has a follow-through.

y For KwenKap, it can be followed by a promotional

material detailing the things we learned.

y For Workshops, it can be followed by an EXHIBIT of

works produced during the actual workshop

y For Sining Series, it can be followed by pictures or

promotional materials highlighting the events we

attended or the things we discovered during the

    course of the event.

    BRANDING

Each event has a specific target. Determine

    proper brandingandpositioningso that the

organization will benefit much from the publicity.

    How does this work?

Example: The organization has a Writing

Workshop. How do you market this?

General target: Everyone interested in writing Specific target: Writers and Literary enthusiasts

Twist: There are writing orgs. What makes the

    Asterisk Writing Workshop different?

  • 8/8/2019 UP Asterisk Exeminar

    21/27

    POSITIONING

Propose a specific title for the event. Make it

    catchy.

Propose the Asterisk Twist. This can be done via

combining writing with the other arts, orexploring an entirely different perspective when

    it comes to writing.

    ositioning challenge:Another organization

intends to promote a writing workshop. Theirs

will focus on techniques in Poetry. How can theorganization promote a writing workshop that

will not directly compete with the event and still

    provide the Asterisk twist?

  • 8/8/2019 UP Asterisk Exeminar

    22/27

    BUDGET CONSTRAINTS

Determine how much the organization is willing

to spend for the event by experience, KwenKap

    demands more money.

Ask the question: When should we conduct IGPs?

Ask the question: When should we start

    marketing?

  • 8/8/2019 UP Asterisk Exeminar

    23/27

    PUBLICITY

There are three ways to promote an event:Publicity Materials, Direct Interaction, andOnline

Publicity materials are catchy, but if theres no

follow-through, nothing will happen. Direct Interaction is one of the most effective

marketing techniques. It engages listeners to feelinvolved and it allows organization members toexplain events in detail.

Online Marketing is the most convenient sinceyou only need web connection. This, however, should be done days before an event since noteveryone goes online every night.

    COMPONENTS OF A GOOD PUBLICITY

    MATERIAL

    Organizational excellence is shown.

Details of the events are carefully highlighted

    and easily seen.

Promotional materials are directly tied to theorganizations events |In cases where this does

not happen, make the promotional material

different from what one should usually expect

    from such events.

    EXERCISES (WORKSHOP)

For this planning model, we will use the

February Event as a working guide as to how we

can effectively plan our projects. So far, we have

    five mandated events: Exhibit, Workshop,

    KwenKap, Freelikula, and Cultural Night.

    We have sixstanding committees: Internals,

    Externals, Academics, Finance, Secretariat, and

    Publicity

Lets prepare a logistics plan for each committeebeginning January 2011

    PREVAILING CONDITIONS

An application process is on-going (Internals

    Committee)

The organization is the Chair of the Academic

Core (Externals + Szusza) The organization has no money.

The organization is recuperating from general

    exhaustion.

The organization is ill-prepared to handle majorevents (case: Gagita)
