IC-TRAM 2017 will address Future Growth and Challenges
IC-TRAM 2017 - Scope and
OpportunitiesAn International Conference on Technological Advancements
in Railway & Metro Projects will be held under the aegis of
Ministry of Railways and Ministry of Urban Development. The
seminar will deal with cutting edge technologies, innovation and
safety in Railways and Metros. The thrust will be to maximize the
Make in India initiative and make India self-sufficient.
In the past two decades Indian Railways has grown manifold
not just in terms of size and volume, but also in terms of usage of
cutting-edge technologies. Today, Indian Railways, is entering
new fields, such as High Speed Railways, Dedicated Freight
Corridors, bridging new frontiers by laying tracks in inhospitable
terrains of the North-East, building mountain railways and using
alternative fuels to reduce dependence on fossil fuels to name a
few initiatives.
In more or less the same period, (since Delhi Metro became
operational in 2002), concurrently, there has been an awakening of
sorts pan-India, in the direction of building more and more Metros to
cater to the increased mobility requirements of the burgeoning
population of the metropolitan towns. As of now some 35-40 metros
are under planning or execution, aggregating a colossal investment
of some $68 bn (Rs 4. 5 lakh crores) over the next five to seven
years. This will soon make India one of the top Metro hubs in the
world, ahead of some of the most advanced countries in the world.
Scope
Some of the important topics, which will be covered in the two-
day Seminar, are as follows:
Metro Rail
• Emerging technologies in manufacturing of rolling stock.
• Advancements in civil engineering, track, bridges &
tunneling, station buildings and ancillaries (psds, etc).
• Cutting edge technologies in signalling & telecom,
driverless train operations.
• Electrical - overhead equipment/3rd rail, traction /general
power supply with emphasis on green energy and
heating/air-conditioning.
• New trends in accident prevention, safety & security-zero
tolerance for accidents.
Railways
• High speed railways-the international experience-the
variants.
• Semi-high speed railways & their relevance.
• Next generation railway coaches, using latest lightweight
materials.
• New propulsion systems such as turbine, fuel cell, etc.
• Use of renewable sources of energy, such as, bio-diesel,
methanol, etc.
• Railway's drive for self-sufficiency in generation of energy
for traction purposes.
• Cutting edge technologies in signalling and telecom.
• Advancements in electric - overhead equipment/3rd rail,
traction /general power supply with emphasis on green
energy and heating/air-conditioning.
• Train management & protection systems, creating a
foolproof operational safety net in all-weather conditions,
including dense fog.
• Advancements in civil engineering, track, bridges and
tunneling.
• Development of world class railway stations.

About DIPM Council of India
About IMR Media
The Railways has a network of 1,14, 907km of track. Of this, 4,500km
should be annually renewed. However, financial constraints had deterred the
progress on track renewals in the last six years.
Indian Railways were allotted the highest ever amount of Rs 1,30,000
crore in the Union Budget for 2017-18.
The national carrier will focus on four major areas of passenger safety,
capital and development works, cleanliness and finance and accounting
reforms.
Highlights: A corpus of Rs1 trillion for a rail safety fund to be spent over
five years; solar power for 7,000 railway stations; redevelopment of 25 railway
stations; 70 projects for construction and development through joint ventures
with nine state governments; and commissioning of 3,500km railway lines in
2017-18, up from 2,800km in 2016-17.
The budget also proposed stock market listing of railway enterprises and
end-to-end transport solutions by Indian Railways in selected commodities by
partnering logistics companies.
Railways' plans to develop 1,000 mega-watt (MW) solar (power) at 7,000
stations will help Indian Railways accomplish its Mission 41K, a plan to save Rs
41,000 crore in next 10 years by electrifying 90% of railway lines, and also
reduce expenditure on power.
Freight loading is expected at 1,165 million tonnes (MT) in 2017-18, which
is 71.50MT over revised estimates 2016-17 and earnings at Rs 1,18,998 crore.
Railways is expected to earn Rs 50,125 crore in passenger traffic, taking total
receipts to Rs 1,89,498.37 crore.
The Defence Infrastructure Planning and
Management (DIPM) Council of India is registered
as DIPM Society, a not for profit organisation,
working on infrastructure technology innovations,
development, project management, contract
management, project delivery, skilling India in the field of
Infrastructure in general and Defence Infrastructure in particular, in
the Govt. Sector. The cadre of Indian Defence Service of Engineers
(IDSE) officers are the key stake holders in the Council, besides
members from academic institutions, infrastructure companies,
consultants, technical bodies, PSUs, autonomous bodies, private
individuals, Govt. officers, etc., on voluntary basis.
The Council holds periodic seminars, technical discussions as well as
publishes technical journals to keep pace with technology development
and innovations. Membership is open to all on nominal fee.
DIPM Council consists of various sub committees on all aspects
of infrastructure planning, innovation, sustainable development,
project delivery, etc. with the aim of becoming a key technical
advisory body on all aspects of infrastructure technology, sustainable
development to Govt. of India in general and to Ministry of Defence in
particular.
