CLOSING THE COMPUTER

If you don’t want to shut down your computer, and just want to walk away, you can close your laptop monitor down and WILL NOT lose any work. The computer will just go to sleep. If you want to see the sleep mode you can click the power button again and choose sleep mode.

Afterwards, once you open your computer back, the documents or sites will open back.

You cannot access this folder unless you are at school on the OSD Secure WiFi.

WIFI NETWORK

The OSD -Secure WiFi network is only allowed for OSD faculty and Staff.

Must log into device with a username and password.

The OSD -Guest WiFi network is allowed for all other users not requiring the username and password.

This network is slightly slower and also blocks sites not allowed through the district.

WiFi Network can be obtained by clicking the WiFi icon at the top of your screen along the menu bar.

HOME FOLDER

Contains the same name of your user account

Represented by a house icon when you are logged in

It contains folders that hold your personal files

Documents, Pictures, Music, and Other Folders

You can create additional folders at any level to organize information as needed.

APPLICATIONS FOLDER ON DESKTOP

This folder contains applications/programs that have been loaded onto your computer

You can add additional programs to your dock

Open your launch pad find your program to add and click and hold it to drag down to the dock. Apps currently on the dock will move/separate to allow the new app to be added to dock.

Remove apps from dock

Click and hold app and drag upward towards desktop and it it has a cloud on it. Let go of app and it POOFS away

DOWNLOAD APPS

In order to download apps to your Mac. You must have an Apple ID ( you may use current or have district purchase apps with OSD Admin Account--you don’t have)

PROS and CONS

iTunes cards can cause issues if they are purchased by EEF

TRASH CAN

Is located in the bottom, right corner

Is similar to Recycle Bin on PCs

You can drag anything to trash in order to delete from computer, must empty the trash can periodically

Empty Trash---right click on trash and choose empty trash

It is a quick search tool

Allows you to type key words in order to find the file.

CLOSE AN APPLICATION

To close an application you must save your work and then close the application

Choose the Menu Bar and choose Quit

Or you may use short cut keys Command and Q (together)

You can also right click on the app on the dock and choose quit.

Red Circle---closes

Yellow Circle--Minimizes

Green Circle--Maximizes (May to use the bottom corners to have the app to display across the entire desktop.
