Inaugural Cohort of the No-Kill Animal ShelterManagementCertificateProgramConcludes

The inaugural cohort of the online No-Kill Animal Shelter Management Certificate Program wrapped up its final class on April 13th. The program was a resounding success, attracting students from 13 different states and Canada, and will begin another cohort in September. The five course program aims to provide the knowledge necessary to assume a management or leadership role at an open-admission, no-kill animal shelter. Topics include management, community engagement, and shelter operations – preparing you for a rewarding career. Initial student feedback has been very positive.

“I also want to tell you that this entire course has been so mind-expanding for me…I have learned so much and can’t believe the difference it has made in my perspectives of shelter work, the no-kill mission, and where I fit in this picture. I am very involved with my shelter, attend strategy meetings, am on a board committee for membership and volunteerism, do outreach events, train volunteers, foster, work with fractious kittens, manage the Facebook page, and socialize the cats. Because of this involvement, I do have the opportunity to work towards making shelter improvements and I now have so many more ideas, tools, and perspectives to offer…I just cannot thank you Bonney and Diane enough for doing this course. It has been and WILL CONTINUE to be life-changing for me. Thank you.” Cathie Kissinger

We look forward to providing future cohorts of students with the same invaluable experience under the new program title Lifesaving-Centered Animal Shelter Management Certificate Program.

New Structure for Substance Abuse CounselorCertificateProgram

The Substance Abuse Counselor Certificate Program (SACCP) will be offering an exciting new structure of courses beginning with the upcoming July 2014 cohort. The program will now be offering eight courses lasting six weeks each. Students in the program will continue taking two courses concurrently and still finish their coursework in as little as six months. To have an opportunity to participate in this highly successful program and start your rewarding career, please apply by May 31st.

In March, the Center for Professional and Continuing Education reached an agreement with the Hinrich Foundation to foster global business initiatives throughout China and Southeast Asia by offering a customized version of our International Trade Certificate Program. The Hinrich Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Asia whose mission is promoting sustainable global trade. This charitable enterprise encourages the private sector and governments to drive innovation and competitiveness in trade-related activities by focusing on three programmatic areas: trade-related education and training, export led job creation, and international trade policy research.

CertifiedFinancialPlannerCFP®CertificateNow Open for Registration!

The Center for Professional and Continuing Education has partnered with DaltonEducation LLC, a leading provider of innovative education solutions in financial planning, to provide an online Certificate in Financial Planning. This program will allow students to satisfy the education requirements to sit for the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) Certification Examination, a leading industry designation, in as little as 9 months.

The program is fully approved by the CFP® Board and is provided to students in two exciting online formats. Students are able to work entirely self-paced or attend scheduled online courses with live instruction. Please check the CPCE website for more details and to register.

CPCE currently offers an online International Trade Certificate through a partnership with Mindedge, a provider of online education based in Massachusetts. After an initial pilot phase, Hinrich and CPCE are working towards customizing the courses to provide a level of localization more pertinent to residents in Asia. This process will begin by testing an International Marketing course customized towards a Vietnamese audience, with the ultimate goal of offering all the courses in the program with local language examples.

CPCEStaffProfile-ValerieSeimas

Hi! I’m Valerie Seimas and I’m the Assistant Director for Enrollment and Records at CPCE. I’m in charge of data entry, enrollment reporting, our software systems, and recordkeeping and storage. If there’s a piece of paper in the office, I probably touched it and know where to find it. (My secret – color-coding!)

Pacific couldn’t get rid of me if they tried. I graduated with an English degree from the College of the Pacific in 2004 and stuck around. I also earned my eMBA from Sacramento State in 2012. I was most happy when CPCE moved from Burn’s Tower on campus – all those stairs and my inherent clumsiness did not mix. Our offices, located at 1776 West March Lane, don’t injure me nearly as often.

I recently got the opportunity to travel to Anaheim for the ELIVE 2014 conference and make a presentation titled “Determining Marketing Effectiveness Using Banner’s Flexible Registration.” I talked about how we can use registration data to find the best places to spend marketing resources. Continuing education, with its need to be flexible and adaptable to the market, can improve their reporting and reach by asking everyone one simple question: “How did you hear about us?” It’s important so the next time someone asks you, answer!

When I’m not working to improve workflow and reporting during the day, I’m an indie author at night. If you have a Kindle and like romantic comedies, you can read my first book RomCon (available from Amazon). I have a second novel, Royally Screwed, set to come out before the end of May.

Spotlight on Contract Training with Knife River Corporation

Over 4 days in February, CPCE provided Microsoft Excel Training for the local offices of Knife River Corporation. Knife River is a construction-related company providing products and services throughout the central, western, and southern United States. Nearly 30 employees from the local Stockton office participated in the training with several traveling from as far away as Chico to participate in this training with Pacific. The participant feedback was tremendous, especially with regards to the trainer, David Diskin.

“I have been to many various training courses through the years and I can say without a doubt that David is the best instructor/trainer I have had to this point.”

CPCE looks forward to continuing its relationship with Knife River by providing additional training opportunities. If you have a business and are looking for training opportunities, please contact CPCE at [email protected] or 209.946.2424, to see how we can help your business succeed.
