Identification of the Project
The University of Technology, Jamaica formerly known as the College of Arts, Science and Technology (CAST),
which is located within the Greater Kingston Metropolitan Region in the parish of St. Andrew occupies 18.2
hectares of land.
The university currently has no facility where it can formerly entertain while educating the students, at the
same time announcing notices and activities throughout the entire campus, but even greater than that allowing us t
student to express our views of our current society, which many would think, is irrelevant. The proposed project
to implement a miniature 100 MHz radio station at the university located at the faculty of engineering on the third
floor.
Introduction
The 100 MHz radio station located at the University of Technology will be utilized to announce notices, bulletins
and upcoming activities while providing a source of entertainment for the students on the campus. The radio statio
could broadcast music and give hourly and daily updates relating to news, sports and university activities. The
station could also serve to remind students of important dates and events and even exam time and dates. The
proposed radio will propagate at a distance of approximately a 2 mile radius.
Definition of Terms
Studio Outfitting
Primarily soundproofing the entire room.
In terms of premises size, the minimum size is 400sq ft. A studio can either be self-op (the main presenter
operates at a desk, min size about 150sq ft) or have separate control room (with equipment and technician,
min size about 80sq ft) and studio (with presenter and guests, at least 100sq ft).
Audio Equipment
A sound desk (this should be a broadcast control console, at least 2 microphones, headphones, an amplifier
speakers and CDs.
A CD player to play music.
Radio stations must record all broadcasts and retain copies for 3 months.
Transmission equipment

A radio transmitter, a limiter and an antenna (aerial) is needed.
An audio signal is passed from the sound console (mixing desk), possibly through the limiting equipment,
and then to the transmitter. Here the audio is mixed with a radio signal, and propagated through the antenna
The strength of the radio signal (the output power of the transmitter) is one of the main factors determining
how far away the station can be received. Another is the height of your antenna - the higher above ground
level; the further the signal will travel.
The antenna will be sited on a mast. The distance from the transmitter to the antenna must be less than 100m, to
prevent loss (of power) in the signal. The mast must be sited to get as good coverage as possible i.e., the antenna
must be high up, not be obstructed by buildings or mountains, and provide good line of sight to as much of theproposed coverage area as possible.
METHODOLOGY
The system of methods used to acquire knowledgeable information to go about starting sua project like the first UTECH radio station is as follows:
Information about any radio station studio equipment and the operation surrounding it wasvital as it set the foundation to future potential UTECH first legitimate radio stationdevelopment, therefore we choose KOOL 97 FM as our source of information.
A letter from the School Of Engineering department was required to submit in order forapproval by KOOL 97 FM, which after many attempts, thank to Mr. Richardson the letter wasapproved in time by KOOL 97 FM for the tour of the entire operation.
UTECH radio station room measurements was recoded by Gamell Pottenger
Helpful data was given to us by our lecturer Mr. Richardson, which placed us on the correctpath for the development of the transmission technique.
The layout of UTECHs radio station studio, was developed by Xavier Senior using AUTOCAD well as detailed structure of equipments layout.

DESIGN
Detailed design of this project will be illustrated and implementedupon presentation.
DATA ANALYSIS
(The detailed information on the operation of the equipments in terms of operation and itmain purpose, basically just look at the power point presentation and describe the operatioof the equipments.)
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROPOSED PROJECT
The significance of this proposal is to gain the respect and support of the University OfTechnology by showing the level of interest from us the students with the help of lecturesand to emphasize the importance to what it means by the name University of Technologywhile implementing the idea of UTECH first radio station and finally exercise some basiccommunication skills that for so long has being thought and learnt.
ANTICIPATED OUTCOMES
The outcome expected from this is nothing drastic at this point in time but for us to be
realistic, especially with the budget being proposed to the university. Without a doubt whais expected is the basic necessity for us to even send some form of signal throughout thecampus to further the knowledge of our studies and at the same time paving the way for thnext generation of communication engineers. To conclude our expectation, the basicequipment expected will be blow the stated budget that is the right budget.
