PREAMBLE:
The Bachelor of Education programme , generally known as B Ed., is a
professional course that prepares teachers for upper primary or middle level
(Classes VI – VIII), Secondary Level (Classes IX and X) and Senior Secondary
Level (Classes XI and XII.)
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME:
The Bachelor of Education degree programme (RIMSE Scheme – under CBCS
and CAGP) is primarily designed to prepare efficient and committed secondary
and senior secondary teachers with special training in moral and spiritual
education. The Course aims at helping aspiring student teachers to develop
competencies and values in the context of changing educational needs and
understand effectively his role as a teacher. The whole scheme is geared to
realize the following objectives.
To understand and analyze the essential principles and values of
education.
To understand the system and practices of education in our country.
To understand the nature and development of secondary school students.
To develop value sensitivity among teacher trainees.
To train teacher trainees in planning, executing and evaluating teaching –
learning process.
To develop a spirit of patriotism, experimentation and scientific temper.
To create an awareness on importance of teacher in education
reconstructions and reforms.
To develop adequate competencies in school subjects.
To build human capital by learning across disciplines.
To provide constructive approach in terms of pedagogies.
To ensure high quality in teaching and learning process.
To ensure transparency in evaluation.
To make teacher trainees as knowledge practitioners.
To make things happen by encouraging students endowed with talents
to acquire skills.
To reinforce assimilation and creative utilization of information while
solving problems in day to day life.
To reduce the stress of students at the term end examination.
To attain a sound knowledge base and proficiency in language.
To identify their own personal expectations, perceptions of self,
capacities and inclinations.
To address the learning needs of all children, including those who are
marginalized and disabled.
Regulation– 1:
TITLE AND COMMENCEMENT:
These regulations shall be called the RIMSE regulations for Two Year (Four
Semesters) Bachelor of Education Programme (RIMSE Scheme), under Choice
Based Credit Scheme and Continuous Assessment and Grading Pattern(CBCS and
CAGP) leading to B Ed Degree of University of Mysore(UOM). RIMSE stands
for Ramakrishna Institute of Moral and Spiritual Education affiliated to University
of Mysore and recognized by NCTE. These shall come into effect from the
academic year 2015 – 16 onwards.
Regulation– 2
ELEGIBILITY FOR ADMISSIONS
2.1 Graduates from any University in Karnataka or any other Universities of
India recognized as equivalent to it obtaining 50% of marks in aggregate of
all the subjects studied in 3 years are eligible for admissions to B Ed Degree
Programme (RIMSE Scheme).In the case of SC, ST, Category - 1 and
Physically Handicapped, minimum marks for eligibility shall be 45% in
aggregate of 3 years of their course; however, the Institute shall adhere to
the order of the University of Mysore in force, in respect of minimum fixed
for eligibility to the admission of B Ed Degree Programme (RIMSE
Scheme).
2.2 The Candidate should have studied one of the following subjects as
optional or major for all the three years: Physics, Chemistry, Botany,
Zoology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Sericulture, Mathematics, Statistics,
History, Political Science, Sociology, Geography, Economics, Commerce,
Accountancy, English, Public Administration, Education, Journalism,
Environmental Studies, Computer Science/Application, Kannada, Hindi,
Sanskrit, Urdu, Marathi, Functional English or any regional languages.
2.3 Even the candidate who have completed B COM, BBM, BCA, B E, MBA,
MCA, M Com and any other equivalent degree approved by University of
Mysore are also eligible for B Ed admission, provided they should study
content paper in the respective paper during the first semester and it will be
evaluated internally and this marks or credit will not be shown in the grade
card. Incase if the students performance is not up to the mark once again he
has to appear the exam during the second semester.
2.4 Any changes regarding qualification for admission to B Ed Degree by
University of Mysore or NCTE are applicable to RIMSE also.
Regulation– 3
DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME:
The programme shall be for a period of two academic years comprising four
semesters of 68 Weeks (410 working days) with 80 Credits. Each semester
comprises of 17 weeks (about 100 working days) including admissions,
teaching learning processes in terms of lecture, tutorial, internship, in-house
activities and term end assessment. The Institution shall have a liberty to alter
either distribution of the courses among the semesters or the duration of any of
these semesters depending on the requirements without altering the total
duration of 68 weeks (410 working days) and the total courses included in the
programme.
Regulation – 4
ADMISSION PROCEDURE
4.1 Admission of candidates to the programme shall be according to Regulation 2
and their performance in the entrance test and interview. The candidate shall be
selected based on the merit list prepared under the following criteria.
a) 50% weightage for the qualifying degree marks.
b) 25% weightage for marks in the entrance test
c) 25% weightage for marks in the interview.
The total ofa, b and c shall decide the merit of the candidate for admission to the
B Ed Programme.
4.2The Institute shall adhere to the orders of Government of Karnataka in force with
respect to the total intake of students.
4.3Since the selection of candidates is on all India basis, the Institute shall adhere to
the government of India policy in force as far as reservation of seats to SC, ST
and OBC is concerned
Regulation– 5
Calendar of Events
The Institute shall prepare the calendar of events every year, giving the dates for the
commencement of the each academic year, internship, mid-term vacation, practical
examination and University semester examinations, subject to the approval of the
University of Mysore.
Regulation - 6
STRUCTURE OF THE PROGRAMME
6.1 Definitions:
A course is the basic component of an academic programme. It is identified by
a course name (i.e. like, Childhood and Adolescence Education………). All
courses are considered for earning credits to secure B Ed degree. Every Course
offered will have three components associated with the teaching-learning
process of the course, namely
(i) Lecture (L) (ii) Tutorial (T) (ii) Practical (P), where
- L stands for lecture session.
- T stands for tutorial session consisting participatory discussion/self-
study/desk work/brief seminar presentations by students and each other
novel methods that make a student to absorb and assimilate more effectively
the contents delivered in the lecture classes.
- P stands for practice session and it consists of internship in teaching and its
related activities/ laboratory experiments/ hands on experience/field
studies/case studies that equip students to acquire the much required skill
component.
A course shall have either one/two or all the three components based on its
requirement.
In terms of credits, every one hour session of L amounts to 1 credit per
semester and a minimum of two hour session of T or P amounts to 1 credit per
semester over a period of one semester of 16 weeks for teaching-learning
process. The total duration of a semester is 20 weeks inclusive of semester-
end-examination.
A course shall have number of credits based on its requirement.
The credit pattern of the course is indicated as L: T: P.
6.2 Different Courses of Study:
The programme shall comprise three broad curricular areas consisting of
different number of courses each.

Under CBCS and CAGP, these courses are categorized
as follows:
6.2.1 Hard Core Courses: Compulsory subjects of study which support the
main discipline
6.2.2 Special Hardcore Course:
RIMSE is the special institution offering Moral and Spiritual Education
for the past 40 years. Therefore it provides two more special hard core
courses for students. These are called RIMSE Special Hard Core
Courses and abbreviated as RSHP.
6.2.3 Soft Core Courses: Optional courses for candidates that are chosen ,
from a pool of courses offered by RIMSE. Each candidate should choose
a combination of 2 soft core courses from the offered combinations by
the college.

6.2.4 Optional Course: Generally a specialized course included to nurture the
candidate’s proficiency. This has to be chosen by the candidate from a
pool of courses offered by RIMSE during the IV semester.
The college shall offer minimum of four electives in this pool. Each
elective course shall have a minimum of Ten and maximum of twenty
five candidates. Candidate shall choose one elective course in the
fourth semester

6.2.5 Practical Work: Consists of Computer Practicals, Psychology
Practicals, Communicative English, Prayer, Meditation, Yoga, Physical
training and Shramadan, any other tasks and activities / assignments that
run through all the courses.
6.2.6 School Internship: Consists of school visit to get experience with the
child, the community and schools and intensive engagement with the
school by working as a regular teacher and participating in all the
school activities (both scholastic and non-scholastic).
School Internship shall be conducted in 2 Phases:
Phase 1: 4 weeks during first semester. This includes:
one week for visit to Innovative schools and Educational Resource
Centres.
Three weeks in regular schools for better understanding of school
Setup and working conditions
Phase 2: 16 weeks during third semester. This includes:
Four weeks college based internship wherein the candidates are
prepared for actual internship in schools.
Twelve weeks school based internship in 2 blocks – one at
elementary or senior secondary and another at secondary level in
the same school or 2 different schools.

Scheme) is appended vide Appendix 2.
Regulation - 7
EVALUATION PROCEDURE (Continuous Assessment, Earning of Credits
and Award of Grades)
7.1 The assessment shall be continuous. Tutorial/ tests/seminars/ assignments
etc., are assessed before the end of the 8th week, 16
th week and 17
th week as
per nomenclature C1, C2 and C3 respectively. C3 shall be the term-end
assessment for theory components, assessed by the University of Mysore
with the support of RIMSE.

Note: A candidate has to score minimum of 40% that is 20 out of 50 in component
C1and C2 put together to appear for C3 component. Otherwise, such a candidate is
said to have dropped the paper. The candidate gets eligibility to take the C3
component, only after scoring the minimum criterion in component C1 and C2
together that is 20 out of 50 and minimum of 80% attendance in all semesters and
90% in school internship.
Guidelines:
a) Tutorial/ activities/ practical components shall be assessed by considering
self-appraisal by the students, Peer observation and Teachers observation.
The average of all these evaluations shall be announced to the student
before finalizing C3 component.
b) The assessment for 25 in C1 and C2 marks shall be done by the following
several procedures such as tests, assignment, seminar, submitting report
after visiting subject related places, discussions, paper presentation,
reflective journals, colloquiums, group discussions, brain storm sessions,
value clarifications and enacting of roles.
7.2 Term – End Assessment for Theory Component ( C3)
a) Duration of term – end assessment for theory component is two hours.
b) Maximum marks for theory component is 50 for Hard Core papers, Soft Core
papers, EPC and Elective papers.
c) Question papers shall be set by the teaching staff of RIMSE who is teaching the
paper in collaboration with the members of Board of Examiners (BOE)
mentioned below.

d) Questions shall belong to the categories of understanding, application, analysis,
synthesis, evaluation, skill etc.
e) Theory examinations will be conducted on continuous working days.
f) Central valuation for the component C3 is organized by the University of
Mysore. The Chairperson or the Superintendent of examination will formulate
the Valuation Committee, subject to the approval of the University of Mysore.
7.3 Determinants of drop of course and programme:
Under the following circumstances a student is said to have dropped the course
if he.
i has failed to have 80% attendance in general and 90% in internship.
ii decides to discontinue the course.
iii has not secured the minimum marks prescribed in C1 and C2 together. That is
40% in each subject.
iv. is said to have been unsuccessful based on the cumulative assessment of the
student at the end of C2
A student is said to have dropped the programme if he
i. is unable to successfully complete all semesters.
ii. is absent for the term – end assessment.
iii.earns less than the required amount of credits in the particular semester.
iv. in case if a student fail/ drop the course due to various reasons, then he can
attend the remaining examinations or papers according to the examination rules of
University of Mysore which is in force from time to time.
7.4 Re-registration
i. A student shall re-register the dropped paper when the paper is offered by the
Institute again. If it is an elective (either core related or school subject
related) paper, he can opt for alternate elective paper
ii. The details of any dropped paper will not appear in the grade card.
7.5 Provision for Appeal: A student can appeal to the grievance committee set
up by the University of Mysore within a week after the announcement of results by
the University of Mysore, if he is dissatisfied with his grades in C1,C2 and C3
components with all facts/ evidence/ basis /proof for such dissatisfaction, without
any fear or misgiving.
Guidelines:
i. The grievance cell is empowered to revise/ alter the grades and also
empowered to penalize the student if his submission is found to be baseless
and unduly motivated.
ii. The grievance cell may recommend to the university authorities to take
corrective / disciplinary action on the evaluator if he/she is found guilty.
iii. The decision taken by the grievance cell is final.
iv. The composition of the grievance cell is as follows:

Dean of Education (Education, UOM)
Three senior members of faculty from the Department of Education /
Sister Department / Discipline / Sister Discipline.
Note: Additional faculty member from one Minority Community in case, none of
the members of the cell belongs to a Minority Community.
Regulation - 8
Classification of Students:
8.1 Term end evaluation process shall be as per the existing norms of the
University. Semester end Grade Point Average (SGPA) and Cumulative Grade
Point Average (CGPA) will be calculated by University of Mysore.
8.2 The tentative or provisional grade card shall be issued at the end of the each
semester indicating the courses completed successfully. Upon successful
completion of B Ed degree programme, a final grade card will be issued by the
Register (Evaluation) of the University of Mysore.
8.3 RS1, RS5, RS6, and RS10 the total marks for each subject is directly treated
for 100 marks with four credits and from RS1 TO RS33 (except RS1, RS5,
RS6 and RS10)in all other papers are valued for 100 marks and later on it
should be converted in to 50 marks with2 credits at the university level for
each semester while preparing grade sheets. (C1= 25 Marks, C2 =25 Marks and
C3 = 50 Marks, C1+C2+C3 = 100 Marks).
8.4 Students shall be classified based on description of grades as given below:

8.5 There are no theory examinations conducted by University of Mysore during
the Third Semester. Internship in POSS and RSHP (MSE) and the Internal
Marks in each POSS along with the Practical Marks will be sent to the
University. University of Mysore will prepare the Grade Card based upon the
Marks sent by RIMSE during the Third Semester and this Grade also will be
considered for the CGPA.
8.6 Prayer and Mediation, Yoga and Shramadan and Physical training are the
special features of our residential B Ed programme. Therefore an additional
two credits will be awarded for Prayer and Meditation along with Physical
training and three more credits will be awarded for Yoga (2 credits) and
Shramadan (1 credit). The performance of the students in the above said
aspects will be assessed from the day one to till the end of fourth semester and
it is assessed internally. These credits will be sent to University of Mysore
along with the fourth semester internal marks from RIMSE (necessary records
will be maintained). While deciding about CGPA, these additional credits also
considered.
8.7 Savings: Save as otherwise, provided in these regulations, the Vice-Chancellor
is competent to act in cases of any disputes to issue clarifications, as per the
stipulated rules in force.

9.2A Student enrolled in the B Ed programme shall be deemed to have satisfied
the requirement of attendance, if he has attended not less than 80% of the total
number of working days, which include lectures, seminars, internship,
educational visits to different places, special lectures together during each
semester.
9.3 The minimum attendance of student – teacher shall have to be 80% for all
course work and practicum and 90% for school internship
9.4.Condonation of shortage of attendance or minimum percentage of attendance
shall be as per the university regulation in force.
