Cyprus: General Historic Information
• Cyprus has played an important role in the history of the Eastern Mediterranean
on account of its privileged geographical position on the crossroads between the
Orient and the Occident.
• The island's prehistory runs as far back as the 8th millennium B.C.
• The island became independent from the British Rule in 1960 and was proclaimed
a Republic.
• The Turkish, after an invasion in July 1974, occupied 37% of the island's territory.
• Cyprus enters the EU in 2004.

Development of a pumped storage facility, utilising Kourris &
Arminou Dams as reservoirs and exchanging large volumes of
water for pumped storage purposes (energy storage at times
of high production and energy production during peak

The facility can range from 15 to 95 MW (Max weekly output
of 2000 GWh) - Both are economically viable options with
government favouring the 95MW option.
