Dear Alumni and Friends:

Travel with us on the journey of a lifetime into the majestic natural wonder thatis Tanzania, Africa’s most authentic safari destination. Here, as they have for tens ofthousands of years, vast herds of elephant, wildebeest, zebra, gazelle and Cape buffaloroam the savannahs, stalked by the magnificent carnivores that prey on them—lion, cheetah and leopard—in one of Earth’s greatest natural spectacles.

Rivalling the grandeur of Tanzania’s wildlife is the panoramic sweep of its scenery. In the north, the snow-crowned summit of Kilimanjaro, Africa’s loftiest peak, towersmajestically above the plains. From Lake Manyara, view the stark beauty of theGreat Rift Valley, a 5,600-kilometre-long cleft in our planet’s surface extending fromLebanon in the north to Mozambique in the south. The expansive grasslands ofthe Serengeti, broken by the occasional rocky outcropping, offer unrestricted vistas inevery direction. And, in the Ngorongoro Crater, savannahs, forests and wetlands areenclosed by the sheer 600-metre-high walls of the ancient caldera.

A typical day on this extraordinary safari begins with first light. Enjoy an earlygame drive in the fresh morning air, when nocturnal animals end their foraging and thegrazers of the plains begin theirs. Spend the midday hours in the comfort of your lodge, where you can listen to the distant calls of birds and survey the wilds of Africa. In thelate afternoon, depart on a second game drive and, as the day gives way to night, watchthe radiant glow of an African sunset. Gather after dinner in the lounge or on the terraceof your lodge and share stories of the day’s sightings with your travelling companions. To enhance your experience, a qualified safari guide accompanies you and shares insightinto Tanzania’s wildlife and the environments it inhabits.

Come join us on this special wildlife safari to the game parks of Tanzania. All accommodations, game drives and most meals are included. Space is limited andusually sells out quickly. Reserve before July 15, 2011, while Early Booking Savingsare available! We look forward to hearing from you soon.

NATURE’S PAGEANT ON THE SERENGETI PLAINSA UNESCO World Heritage Site

Tanzania’s Serengeti—the “endless plains” of the Masai warriors and herdsmenwho have roamed its trackless grasslands for centuries—forms the heart of a uniqueecosystem that encompasses the neighbouring Ngorongoro Conservation Area andKenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve. Within its 14,000 square kilometres, theSerengeti offers a diversity of natural habitats—short- and tall-grass savannahs, acaciawoodlands, riverine forests and wetlands—that provide sanctuary for the greatestvariety and number of game animals on earth.

The key to the vitality of the Serengeti lies in the seasonal migrations of its wildlife ina rhythmic cycle triggered by the coming of the rains between the Serengeti of Tanzaniaand the Masai Mara of Kenya. Each year, by November, the savannas of Tanzania’sSerengeti have been replenished with a fresh growth of succulent grasses and herbs; andmore than one million wildebeest and countless zebra, gazelle and other grazing animalsbegin yet another southerly 400-kilometre-long trek from the Masai Mara to Tanzaniaand the Serengeti, returning just in time for the January and February calving season, the prime time to view the herds in Tanzania. At the end of the May and June matingseason, the cycle reverses as a new generation of these incredible herds trek back northtoward the Masai Mara, repeating nature’s pageant of migration and birth.
