ASU COOPERATED WITH PRESTIGIOUS BRITISH UNIVERSITIES

ASU collaborated with the UK to host British academic programmes where this partnership focused on the Bahraini labour market and provide alumni with a broader exercise platform and competition skills to compete in the labour market and serve the community and the nation.

Whereas the University collaborated with London South Bank University to introduce 5 bachelor programmes at the College of Engineering and Cardiff Metropolitan University to offer Management and Business Studies, Management and Accounting and Finance Programmes.

ASU held two signing ceremonies for cooperation agreements under the patronage of the Secretariat General of the HEC, in the presence of a number of members of the Secretariat General of the HEC and VIPs from various governmental and private sectors in the Kingdom, Secretary General of the Associations of Arab Universities, Chairman of the Board of Trustees Prof. Waheeb Al Khaja and the President of ASU Prof. Ghassan Aouad, President of London South Bank University and the Vice President of the University. In addition to the President of Cardiff Metropolitan University and

Vice President of the University, as well as a number of ambassadors, University presidents, members of the board of directors, secretaries and University staff. Prof. Waheeb Al Khaja expressed his happiness considering these agreements as an extension and development of the distinguished relations between the Bahraini and British peoples. For his part, the British Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain expressed his pleasure with this cooperation, and that the relations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Kingdom are strong and rooted, full of respect and exchange of experiences in various fields.

Professor Ghassan Aouad mentioned that ASU is proud of this partnership, which is characterized by the willingness of all parties to abide by the highest standards of academic quality, and to provide a high level of education that will enable the development of Bahrain and guide students in their career path. He also pointed out that these agreements will contribute to the University’s progress in line with ASU Strategic Plan that aims to move the University to global prominence through cooperation with international Universities and the introduction of academic programmes that qualify students to obtain an accredited bachelor’s degree from international Universities.

On the occasion of the visit of His Royal Highness Prince of Wales, Crown Prince of the United Kingdom Prince Charles and his wife. During Prince Charles visit to the University’s booth, he expressed his admiration and praise for the University’s scientific level, pointed out that ASU is an ambitious University that seeks to reach universality. Prince Charles wished further cooperation between ASU and the British Universities and Institutions in the future.

The University participated in the reception held by the British Embassy in Bahrain in conjunction with the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the establishment of trade relations between the two countries, in the presence of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Prof. Waheeb Al Khaja, the Director Marketing and Public Relations Directorate, a number of ministers, ambassadors and dignitaries from various governmental and private sectors.

ASU is the only Bahraini University to participate in this reception, where it has a strong relationship with various British institutions and cooperation with these institutions. The most recent was the signing of a joint cooperation agreement with the British South University Bank. As well as its cooperation with the British Metropolitan Cardiff University to offer two bachelor’s programmes in Business and Management Studies and Accounting and Finance.

Cardiff Academic Partners Conference was attended by the University Board of Trustees. Prof. Waheeb Al Khaja, the President of the University, Prof. Ghassan Aouad, and the Director of Training and Development Unit, and the Acting Director of the International Cooper ation Office, Mr. Yasser Abu Seneh. The conference presented a number of vital topics such as quality assurance, strategic planning, marketing, research capacity demand at the partner academic institutions with Cardiff University.

On the sidelines of the conference, Prof. Waheeb and Prof. Ghassan met with a number of Cardiff University Partners where they discussed the possibility of the mutual cooperation and exchange of experiences in various scientific and academic fields, and that ASU has started offering the new programmes in Management and Business Studies in cooperation with the Prestigious Cardiff University.

AUGURATION OF THE FACULTY OF ENGINEERING PROGRAMMES

The University hosted a reception and an induction of the new programmes of the College of Engineering under the patronage of the British Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain, in cooperation with London South Bank University. The ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees Prof. Waheeb Al Khaja and the President of the University Prof. Ghassan Aouad and Prof. Charles Egbu, from London South Bank University and a number of ambassadors and selected representatives of companies from the public and private sectors and representatives of private schools in Bahrain, and University partners from the local community.

The ceremony included a number of activities that have been initiated by Prof. Waheeb Al Khaja. Prof. Waheeb welcomed the guests and affirmed that the meeting is held to introduce the local community and University’s specialization to students. The British Ambassador expressed his happiness with this academic cooperation and exchange of experiences between the two Universities.

For his part, Prof. Ghassan stressed that the University is pleased with the response of some companies and schools to the meeting that was held, looking forward to more induction meetings in the future of ASU programmes and their significance. Prof. Ghassan explained that the Faculty of Engineering Programmes are in line with the latest developments in the world and STEM Strategy (Science - Technology - Engineering Design - Mathematics) in the field of education and the global approaches in the current curriculum design which has been proven effective through the implantation the applied practical activities.

The Vice President of Academic Affairs and Development also spoke about the benefit that the students will achieve through their studies in the Faculty of Engineering, noting that the registration is open in the fields of Civil Engineering, Construction and Architectural Design Engineering for the first semester of the academic year 2017/2018.

HH Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of Bahrain Athletic Federation visited the participated booth of ASU in the expat community expo “This is Bahrain” organized by the Expat community at the Bahrain Volleyball Hall on the occasion of the Kingdom of Bahrain celebrations to commemorate the establishment of the Modern Bahraini Country under the founder Ahmed Al-Fateh as an Arab Islamic entity in 1783 AD, the 45th anniversary of since Bahrain has joined the United Nations as a full member, and the 17th Anniversary of His Majesty the King’s Accession to the reins of power.

The Director of the Directorate of Marketing and Public Relations, Mrs. Ruqaya Mohsen delivered a brief explanation about ASU.HH Sheikh Khalid Al Khalifa also received congratulations from the students and University Staff who participated in the exhibition.

For his part, the President of the University, Prof. Ghassan Aouad, valued the visit of HH Sheikh Khalid Al Khalifa and expressed his great pleasure to participate in this exhibition, especially as ASU is the only private educational institution participating in this event, which indicates the importance of the University role in supporting the Bahraini society to achieve its mission as an educational institution aimed at serving Bahrain and its people.

The University participated in the event of “This is Bahrain” in Rome, represented in Prof. Ghassan Aouad, President of the University, Mr. Mohammed Al Khaja, the Board Member, Mr. Abdullah Al Khaja, Director of Admin and Finance Directorate, Mrs. Edita Blazibela, Director of the Marketing Unit, and Mrs. Mariam Baslar, a student from ASU.

The organizers’ mission to represent the Kingdom as a country that embrace the virtues of love and peaceful coexistence between its different spectra. The President also expressed his happiness with the participation of the University in this event, especially as the Applied Sciences University is the only participated private educational institution which indicates the significant role performed by the University in supporting the Bahraini

society. “This is a very great opportunity to contribute to the implementation of His Majesty’s vision. This vision emphasizes the unity of this homeland, interdependence of its sons and residents and their dedication in raising the name of the kingdom high”, Prof. Ghassan added.

From his side, the President of the University, Prof. Ghassan Aouad, praised the attendance of HH Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, and Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee, said that the contribution reflects the interest of the wise leadership in promoting the Kingdom of Bahrain and conveying the true image in various international forums, which will impact on Bahrain in all fields.

The University celebrated the graduation of 320 students within the 9th Batch, under the patronage of HE Sameer bin Abdullah Nass, the Chairman of the Board of Directors and in the presence of the Minister of Ministry of Information Affairs, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees HE Prof. Waheeb Al Khaja, the President of the University Prof. Ghassan Aouad and a number of ambassadors.

From his side, the Minister of Ministry of Information Affairs expressed his happiness for participating the alumni their happiest moments of graduation from ASU. He congratulated their parents and wished them success in serving their religion, homeland and nation. “The University certificate is a license to enter the labour market or a mean for professional promote and not the aim, and therefore those who wish to succeed in searching the available opportunity without paying attention to the specialization, the most Media professionals are Doctors, and the famous Bankers are Engineers”, he addressed the students.

In addition, the Chairman of the Board, Mr. Sameer Nass, addressed the alumni during the speech saying: “you are celebrating your degree after a long journey of diligence. Your scientific guidance will put you at the

threshold of your future life, which is the beginning of a new phase of work and sincerity”.

From his side, Prof. Waheeb Al Khaja said, “The University spares no effort to serve the students by supporting their talents and abilities, focusing on creative development and leadership, following the modern methods of learning and education and providing students with knowledge and skills which sharpen their talents and help them to build their future and their country’s future”.

From his side, Prof. Ghassan Aouad, the University President confirmed in his speech that ASU is striving to persist its steps towards distinction and success. Prof. Ghassan also pointed out that ASU set a strategic plan in line with the general framework of the HEC strategic plan in the Kingdom of Bahrain. In the future, the plan is to enter into cooperation agreements with prestigious international Universities to develop ASU and launch new academic programmes.

ASU HOSTS5 NATIONAL SKILLS Dr. Abdulghani Ali Al Showaikh, Secretary General of the Higher Education Council opened the 3rd National Skills Competition held under the patronage of HE Dr. Majid bin Ali Al-Nuaimi, Minister of Education. The competition was attended by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees Prof. Dr. Waheeb Al Khaja and the President of the University Prof. Ghassan Aouad and a selection of University Presidents, Directors of Departments of the Ministry of Education and Members of the Senior Management of ASU. ASU hosted 5 out of 17 technical and professional skills.

On this occasion, Prof. Ghassan Aouad expressed his happiness for the participation of a number of professors and students of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences in the competition, in addition to hosting these five national skills. Prof. Ghassan stressed the importance of the competition as it is concerned with an important sector of human development related to technical education and vocational training.

Prof. Ghassan stressed that ASU supports the ambitious plans implemented by the Ministry of Education to develop the educational system in the Kingdom. The University focuses on the development of technical and vocational education through continuous efforts to develop this sector and its curricula and improve the training level in the workplace.

In conclusion, the President thanked the Minister of Education Dr. Majid Bin Ali Al Nuaimi and the Secretary General of the Higher Education Council Dr. Abdulghani Showaikh and all the participants in this competition and wished success to all Bahraini participants in the international skills competition scheduled to be held in Abu Dhabi 2017.

CELEBRATING INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

ASU HOSTS THE 42ND ARAB DEAF WEEK

The University’s Community Service Office organized an event entitled “Disability is not the end”, under the patronage of the President of the University, Prof. Ghassan Aouad. The week was coinciding with the celebrations of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. In the presence of the President of the University, former Lebanese Minister of Education, Vice-President of the American University of Beirut Prof. Hassan Diab, Muharraq Municipal Council Chairman Mohammed bin Abdulla Al-Sinan, Municipal Council Member Yusuf bin Ahmed Al Thawadi, Vice presidents, Advisors, Deans of the Faculties, a number of Heroes Challenge Disability and Personalities and Associations of People with Special Needs including the Bahraini Deaf Association, the Friendship Society for the Blind, Al-Harak Society, Down Syndrome, CIC Specialist Medical, Volunteer Teams, as well as a group of Academic and Administrative Staff and University Students.

The Bahraini Deaf Association in cooperation with the University’s Community Engagement Office organized the 42nd Arab Deaf Week at the University under the title “Sign Language is an Important Mean of Communication with the Deaf”, under the patronage of His Excellency Mr. Jameel bin Mohammed Humaidan, Minister of Labour and Social Development. The Event was participated by a large number of ASU staff, the Association and Community Engagement.

This collaboration aims to increase awareness of the issues of people with special needs, support them to achieve their rights, and focus on the importance of integrating them with their peers and society and helping them achieve their goals and aspirations.

The event included a series of activities and workshops, where an art exhibition was held, including paintings, prints in Arabic calligraphy and handicrafts by the deaf. The activities of the week included a series of courses in Photoshop, Encoding and Decoding, the Sign Language Course, knitting course and a bowling course, all of which were presented by deaf people.

From his side, Dr. Mohammed Yousif Abu Keir, Vice President for Administration, Finance and Community Engagement, said that the good relationship between the University and the society is a source of pleasure and pride and an evidence of the University’s activities in the service of society and its keen efforts to serve the country in various fields.

Dr. Mohammed Yousif pointed out that hosting this event underlines the University’s interest in empowering the Deaf community as a major component of the Bahraini people, appreciating their role in serving the Kingdom as a partner in the development process.

ASU HOSTS THE 42ND ARAB DEAF WEEK

THE 5TH CAREER EXPO UNDER THE PATRONAGE OF MINISTER OF LABOUR

The Professional Development and Alumni Affairs Office held the Career Day Expo for the 5th consecutive year, under the patronage of the Minister of Labour and Social Development. The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour and Social Development inaugurated the exhibition on behalf of HE the Minister, in the presence of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University, Prof. Waheeb Al Khaja, the President of the University Prof. Ghassan Aouad and a number of companies and public-sector owners.

The Undersecretary praised the University’s initiative to introduce its students to the needed skills and disciplines by the labour market and the challenges that job seekers face to help them in order to assist them in determining their career options. The exhibition aims to enhance communication between students and the labour market by providing job opportunities and training, with the outputs of University education and the level of scientific and professional competence of graduate students. It aims to create opportunities for the target group of students and graduates to meet with private sector institutions and companies to identify the needs of the local labour market. As well as the need to familiarize the University student with the ethics of work before entering the labour market and the requirements of integration and success in the labour market.

From his side, Prof. Ghassan Aouad explained that the Career Day Expo for students and alumni is one day that provides an opportunity to learn the types of professional sectors that suit their specialization, gain experience and skill in the field of CV submission and pass the job interview successfully. It should be noted that the participants in the exhibition offered a range of career and training opportunities for University alumni in a number of professional specializations.

ASU Deanship of Student Affairs, in cooperation with the Faculty of Arts and Science, organized its its 5th Educational Expo for “Thinking and Communication Skills Development” and “Introduction to Sociology” courses. Under the patronage of H.E. Shaikha Hala bint Mohammad Al Khalifa, Director of the Department of Culture and Arts. The Expo was attended by Prof. Ghassan Aouad and a number of VIPs, Academic and Administrative Staff and University students.

The expo, which was supervised by Dr. Rawya Zamari, Manager of Counselling Office and the Course Lecturer, as a new implementation under the informal learning to motivate students towards more fun and thrilling learning where students collected many documents and historical information enhanced with pictures and sculptures to be presented to the audience.

On this occasion, the President of the University, Ghassan Aouad thanked the exhibitors and praised the distinguished academic content. From her side, Dean of Student Affairs explained that the exhibition aims to achieve the vision and mission of the University, the supporter of applied education. The Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science expressed his thanks to the University management to their facilities for the success of this exhibition, and praised the efforts of the students, which resulted in the appearance of the exhibition in the most beautiful and distinctive image.

JOINT COOPERATION BETWEEN ASU AND THE ROYAL CHARITY ORGANIZATION

The University has signed a joint cooperation agreement with the Bahrain Businesswomen’s Society to enhance cooperation between the University and the society in line with the University’s strategy of community engagement and promote good and effective relations with local community organizations by providing various services that serve the Bahraini community Development.

The agreement aims to establish a framework for cooperation between the two parties to enable businesswomen in the private sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain to develop their work and skills in accordance with the laws and regulations in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Prof. Waheeb Al Khaja, Chairman of the Board of Trustees stressed that the signing of this agreement with the Businesswomen’s Society stems

from the University’s keenness to empower the role of women in society as a key element in the process of development. Noting that the Bahraini women have demonstrated their competence and ability to excel in various walks of life and achieved many achievements in various positions.

Prof. Ghassan Aouad, President of the University, stressed that the good relationship between the University and the business women’s Society is a source of pride and pleasure for the University. He pointed out the keenness of the University management to support such cooperation and exchange of experiences between the Association and the University and to promote the idea of entrepreneurship among the members of the Association and provide training in different areas.

A JOINT COOPERATION AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE UNIVERSITY AND BAHRAIN BUSINESSWOMEN’S SOCIETY

The University signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Royal Charity Organization where the agreement was signed by the representative of the University, Prof. Ghassan Aouad and representative of the Royal Charity Organization, Dr. Mustafa Al Sayed the Secretary General of the Royal Charity Organization.

The MoU aims to develop a practical framework for cooperation and understanding between the University and the Organization to achieve the common interest of both parties and the Bahraini society as a whole by coordinating efforts in issues and events that serve the vision of achieving a successful community partnership within the framework of the laws and regulations in force in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The University President said that, we have signed the agreement with the Royal Charity Organization to provide the academic and research expertise and hold

training and educational courses, based on the cooperative approach, principles and ASU objectives towards strengthening and developing its role in serving the Bahraini society and supporting the governmental, private and educational institutions in the scientific and educational fields.

Collaboration between ASU and FLAT 6 LABSThe University signed an agreement for joint cooperation with the FLAT 6 LABS within the framework of the joint cooperation between the University and a number of Bahraini governmental and private institutions, in the presence of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees Prof. Dr. Waheeb Al Khaja, the President of the University, Prof. Ghassan Aouad and Mrs. Sabah Al Moayyed, Director of the Corporation.

This agreement aims to open the horizons of communication between University students and the institution to benefit from their experiences in the field of entrepreneurship and to encourage young people and students to establish their own projects in support of the Bahraini economy in line with the Bahrain economic vision. The University is keen to spread awareness of the concept of leadership and its importance to the national economy. Innovative projects for students Entrepreneurship has an influential role to play, and it is one of the main drivers of economic growth, contributes to job creation and encourages young people to initiate and innovate.

The University held a ceremony honouring members of the Academic Members who received a fellowship and advanced fellowship from the Higher Education Academy in the United Kingdom, under the patronage of Prof. Waheeb Al Khaja, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, in the presence of Prof. Ghassan Aouad, President of the University, Prof. Stephanie Marshall, Executive President of the Academy, and senior members of the University’s senior management and staff. This achievement is the first of its kind at the level of private Universities in Bahrain.

On this occasion, Prof. Waheeb Al Khaja congratulated all the professors on this achievement, stressing that this certificate will help the recipients to develop their teaching and concepts and promote best practices in the fields of higher education, noting that the Board of Trustees is exerting every effort to provide all facilities which will contribute to the development of academic and administrative staff at the University.

For his part, Prof. Ghassan Aouad expressed his great happiness at this achievement, stressing the importance of this certificate and what it adds to its holder and its impact on his academic and professional life.

ASU COMPETITION “THROUGH THE EYES OF MY LENS” IN ITS 3RD VERSION

ASU AWARDED THE BEST NATIONAL DAY BUILDING DECORATION FOR THE 3RD YEAR IN A ROWThe University won the first place in the educational sector in the Best National Day Building Decoration Completion for the most beautiful decoration of public and private buildings with the participation of a large number of bodies, institutions and companies. This competition is held in conjunction with the Kingdom’s celebrations of the National Day and Day of Coronation. Prof. Ghassan Aouad, the President of the University, received the first-place award during a ceremony held by the governorate under the patronage of HE Sheikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, the Governor of the Capital Governorate.

The Deanship of Student Affairs held a University competition “Through the Eyes of my Lens” with the participation of 12 students, coinciding with the Kingdom of Bahrain’s National Day celebrations and the 17th Anniversary of HM the King’s accession to the reins of power. Mariam Sharida won the first place, Ashraf Al Tawalbeh won the second place, while Mohammed Qambar won the third place. The winning photo is chosen based on the jury’s assessment, which requires the availability of a number of criteria, most notably the clarity of the image, quality, colours and angles of photography.

On this occasion, the University President expressed his happiness with the University’s winning this competition. He pointed out that the University, as part of its role as a Bahraini educational institution, is proud to celebrate the Kingdom’s national holidays, noting that the University is sparing no effort to spread the cultural vision of the Kingdom and raise the flag of Bahrain high among nations and civilizations.

He also thanked the Capital Governorate for their efforts in organizing such competitions and all the departments that contributed to this achievement to reach this honourable result.

The University won the gold and silver medal in the 1st Table Tennis Championship, which was held at Gulf University under the patronage of Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, a member of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, member of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, the Bahrain Olympic Committee and the Chairwoman of Women’s Sport Committee.

Sheikha Hayat Al Khalifa crowned the student Rashid Sand with the gold medal after defeating his teammate Louai Jamal. ASU won the first and second place in the championship among 48 players of 9 public and private Universities.

Committee in cooperation with the Student Services Unit at the Gulf University, Where the matches were run by international referees from the Bahrain Table Tennis Federation.

From his side, Prof. Ghassan Aouad, President of the University congratulated the winners on this brilliant success and pointed out that the University is proud of this coronation, which is an additional achievement to the University in various forums and events. The University President also stressed that the ASU is dedicating all its capabilities in order to support the extracurricular activities that contribute to enhancing the abilities of students and refining their personalities and talents.

ASU is Crowned with Gold at the Bahrain Table Tennis Championship

The President of the University crowns the winners of Ramadan Football ChampionshipProf. Ghassan Aouad, the President of the University, crowned the winners’ teams in the Ramadan Football Championship organized by the Community Service Office in cooperation with the “Fazat Shabab” Association and the Future Leaders Team of the Voluntary Local Football Community.

The tournament witness intense competition among the participating teams, Al Amal Team won the first place, the Future Leaders won the second place while the Future Leaders Team won the third place after beating Gas Wilf, which in turn won the fourth place.

The Deanship of Student Affairs organized in cooperation with the Student Council and the Sports Club the Champions League for Applied Football, in an atmosphere characterized by friendliness, enthusiasm and brotherly spirit among the participants, where the championship was held with the participation of 10 teams of Universities students. The final results resulted in the crowning of the Marine Team in the first place, the Ultimate Team in the second place, and Al-Ettihad Team in the third place.

On the other hand, Dr. Mohammed Yousif, Vice President for Administration, Finance and Community Engagement, honoured the top three teams on behalf of the President of the University. Abdullah Al Sinan crowned as the top scorer, Talal Al Shorouqi as the best player, and finally Yousif Maamoun as the best goalkeeper. Dr. Mohammed Yousif expressed his happiness and pride with the tournament and University students’ achievement. Dr. Mohammed stressed also the University’s keenness to support its students and develop their creative spirit in order to refine their talents in various fields.

The University won the 1st place in the “Quran Recital” competition, which was held under the patronage of Dr. Fareed bin Yaqoub Al Miftah, Undersecretary for Islamic Affairs for the best recitation of the Holy Quran at the level of the Kingdom’s public and private Universities.

At the conclusion of the competition, the President of the University, Prof. Ghassan Aouad honoured the winners, participants and the jury for their efforts in learning to recite the Holy Qur’an and reflect the good and bright image of tolerant Islam.

The student, Mohammed Al Shorouqi expressed his happiness for the great success of the competition and that it was the first time that the University had held such a special event. He also received praise for the high level of organization.

The University participated in the Kingdom’s festivities of the glorious National Day of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the 17th anniversary of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s accession of the reins of power. The festival’s name called “Durrat Al Awttan” under the patronage of Prof. Waheeb Al Khaja, Chairman of the Board of Trustees and attended by Prof. Ghassan Aouad, the President of the University and a large number of ASU staff in a festive atmosphere that promotes the values of allegiance and national sense of belonging.

The celebration included many cultural and youth activities including the henna inscription, decoration contest for cars and Bahraini “Ardah”, the local name of Bahraini Traditional Dance with the prestige of the sword. In addition to a concert and a poetry evening attended by a number of Bahraini and Gulf poets who responded to the University’s invitation, to express their love for the Kingdom, in addition to many folk contests.

On this occasion, Prof. Ghassan conveyed his sincere congratulations of the Bahraini wise leadership and expressed his appreciation with the students’ council preparations. The festival included concerts that show the love of the homeland and feelings of belonging.

The University took part in the Ministry of Education’s celebrations of the 16th anniversary of the National Action Charter, where ASU participated in the Carnival of private vehicles of Higher Education Institutions and a number of schools. The ASU holds a Workshop on Student RecruitmentOn the initiative of the President of the University Ghassan Aouad, the University held “ASU’s Strategy on Student Recruitment” Workshop, which was attended by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees Prof. Waheeb Al Khaja, University’s partners of employers, advisory councils’ members and a number of guests as well as students and alumni, where the workshop included the presentation of a set of ideas to obtain feedback in terms of students’ recruitment and enhancement the alumni recruitment.

The workshop discussed the University strategy, recruitment strategy, alumni qualifications and labour market needs, where the University president provided a summary of ASU strategy, its vision and future mission of global university, through cooperation with prestigious British Universities and launching new programmes. While Prof. Saad Znad, Advisor to the President for Special Projects at the University spoke about a detailed description of the employment strategy through matching curricula to the labour market needs. Then, Dr. Faiza Zitouni, Dean of Student Affairs, spoke about the alumni qualifications and the importance of their proficiency and love and desire for knowledge. The workshop concluded with a presentation by Dr. Assem Al Hajj, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Development on the labour market and its needs.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees expressed his happiness to meet the Media Professionals, noting that the University is proud to host a group of the finest Media Professionals in Bahrain and who contribute with their colleagues in delivering the truth to the people and enlighten the community.

The University President also clarified that the honour comes in celebration of the good partnership between the University and the media and stressed the significant role in today’s world in promoting the institutions and praising the Bahraini media awareness messages in interacting with the society activities on all occasions.

The Marketing and Public Relations Directorate organized the annual Ramadan Ghabga for ASU employees and their families, in the presence of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees Waheeb Al Khaja, the President of the University Ghassan Aouad, a number of Board members and trustees, secretaries, media representatives and University partners. This initiative comes as a celebration of the Holy Month of Ramadan and to promote the spirit of harmony and cohesion between all ASU’s employees and their families.

The Ghabga included a speech by HE Prof. Ghassan Auoad where he congratulated the audience by the holy month of Ramadan, and called upon God Almighty to accept their fasting and the good deeds. He also praised the staff great efforts and hard work in serving the University throughout the academic year. THE ANNUAL RECREATION CAMP FOR STAFF AND STUDENTS

The Marketing and Public Relations Directorate organized for the 3rd consecutive year a recreational camp in the Sakhir area, in the presence of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees Prof. Waheeb Al Khaja, the President of the University Prof. Ghassan Aouad and a large number the academic and administrative members and their families, as well as a large number of ASU’s students and Alumni.

The camp visitors enjoyed many activities, folklore, Bahraini cuisine, children’s games, competitions, artistic and sports activities and other miscellaneous and entertainment activities. The University management aims to hold these types of events because of their impact on enhancing the employees’ social aspect and a sense of team unity and teamwork on which the University policy is based.

ASU students elected in the 10th Student Council among wide participation of students who came to choose their representatives in the Council, in an atmosphere filled with enthusiasm and competition, where the electoral process witnessed an increasing turnout among students at the polling stations.

The student council elections aim to promote the spirit of democracy among students and encourage them to participate in the University students and activities. It also comes in line with the country’s democratic approach, which was laid down by HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, may God protect him.

The elections resulted in the victory of 13 students out of the 15 candidates for the student council elections, which was held with the participation of a large number of students from different faculties of the University.

Students of Human Rights Course under the supervision of Dr. Rania Nawasra, Academic Staff in the College of Arts and Science, in a humanitarian gesture, honoured ASU staff on the occasion of Labour Day to celebrate their achievements, where the students distributed packages to all ASU workers expressing their pride and appreciation of the workers and praising their role and dedication to serve Bahrain and its people.

The Deanship of Student Affairs, in cooperation with the Student Council, the Volunteer Club and the Women’s Club, organized an entertainment day for the orphans of the Sanabel Orphans Care Society with the participation of a large number of ASU students who celebrated orphans through playing with children, conducting recreational competitions and giving gifts to them.

Mr. Mohammed Al Najjar, Manager of Student Services Office clarified that this event comes within the framework of the community service activities that the University is keen to establish and encourage the students to participate. Thus, contributing to the enhancement of social responsibility spirit in the students. Mr. Mohammed thanked the management of Al Sanabel Orphans Care Society for their cooperation with the University and their efforts to secure a better future for orphans and ASU students who contributed to organizing this event and drawing joy on the children’s faces.

Breakfast Campaign on the RoadThe Student Council and University’s Volunteer Club members implemented a “Breakfast on the Road” campaign, where light meals were distributed to drivers and passengers at the breakfast time.

The Dean of Student Affairs Dr. Faiza Zitouni said that the campaign aims primarily to promote Islamic values in society and develop the spirit of social solidarity among the University students and its employees and it is one aspect of the social responsibility of ASU.

“This campaign embodies the meanings of love and brotherhood between citizens, and enhances the spirit of social solidarity among them, as well as motivating drivers to slow down and avoid speeding and dangerous accidents that may result”, Dr. Faiza added.

The Student Council held its 10th Annual Ghabga under the slogan “Our Joy in our Gathering”, under the patronage of the President of the University, Prof. Ghassan Aouad, and in the presence of the President of the University and a number of ASU Academic and Administrative Members and a large number of students and alumni.

The Ghabga included many artistic activities, folklore, competitions, individual and group games as well as various entertainment games. The Ghabga also included honouring the University’s volunteer students in various activities which was held by the University in the last academic year. On this occasion, Prof. Ghassan Aouad congratulated the attendance by the holy month of Ramadan. He also thanked the students for their wise leadership of the Council’s work and constructive ideas, as well as the positive and effective aspect of their participation in the success of previous events.

On his part, President of the Student Council Mohammad Al Shorouqi congratulated the University management on the occasion of the holy month, particularly Prof. Ghassan Fouad Aouad, and thanked the University management for its continuous support to the Students Council, which contributed to the creation of positive and effective student atmosphere within the University, stressing the pleasure of all the members of the Student Council with this initiative.

Student Council organizes the Annual Ramadan Ghabga

The Student Council, members of the Volunteer Club and Women’s Club organized a visit to the National Bank of Bahrain for the elderly in conjunction with the celebration of Family Day, and as part of the community activities implemented by ASU students to raise community awareness in various categories of society, and promote volunteerism among students. This visit comes within the framework of the social responsibility programmes adopted by the University, in order to provide students with the values of community service and participation in charitable and social activities.

During the visit, the students presented souvenirs and flowers to the elderly in the hospital, in recognition of their role and contribution to the society, stressing that the elderly are in constant need of care, love and psychological and moral support in compliance with the dictates of our tolerant religion, which calls for dealing with the elderly with mercy and love.

The University hosted the 4th Social Media Pioneers Forum (SMMF 2016), which was held under the patronage of HE Sheikh Hisham bin Abdul Rahman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Governor of the Capital Governorate. This Forum was organized by the World Social Media Club in collaboration with the University and Legend Marketing Consultancy. The forum was attended by HE Sheikh Hisham bin Abdul Rahman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Governor of the Capital Governorate, HE Prof. Waheeb Al Khaja, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, HE Prof. Ghassan Aouad, President of the University and a large number of attendees from inside and outside the University.

From his side, the University President stressed that the University is keen to promote the leadership culture among its students by organizing and hosting events that will

support students and promote their pioneering ideas in various fields.

Prof. Ghassan also expressed his pleasure to host the Forum in its 4th edition, based on its keenness to support the Bahraini society as part of its policy and mission, which aims to serve the Bahraini society in particular and the Gulf community in general. The President of the University said that the forum attracted 34 American entrepreneurs with global experience in the fields of entrepreneurship, social media, digital marketing, branding, training, leadership and others. The President of the University, Prof. Ghassan Aouad, expressed his happiness at hosting the University for this event and praised the idea of the award and its contribution to refine the participants’ personalities through training, dynamic interaction and promoting the spirit of citizenship within the programmes and activities framework. ASU hosts the Youth Conference whichorganized by AIESEC Bahrain

A number of University students participated in a Youth against Extremism Conference organized by the Isa Cultural Centre, where ASU participation comes from a research prepared by the students of the University: Ali Attia Al Rumaihi, Mariam Abdel Karim Baslar and Noor Riad Al Sai.

The research pointed out that young people are the backbone of the societies where they form the majority in the Arab world, pointing to the importance of their role in the development and construction of the future of any country where most sectors rely heavily on young people.

The research also tackled the challenges facing young people in the Arab world. The most prominent of these challenges is the extremist groups that will be instilled in the minds of young people intense ideas to propagate extremist ideology and destroy societies. The project also addressed the danger of extremism, its causes and impact on the global level and the challenges that affect youth, especially in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

It is worth mentioning that the University is keen to support the students’ work and encourage the research and creativity culture through following the modern methods of teaching and learning, which depends on research and inquiry, in addition to supporting practical applications in teaching as well as theoretical applications.

The University hosted the Youth Forum organized by AIESEC Bahrain under the patronage of HH Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa Undersecretary for International Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in the presence and participation of a large number of governmental and private institutions, most notably the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the United Nations, where the forum presented the problems facing young people in Bahrain and solved with the help of a large segment of young people in this global forum. These problems

are solved with the help of a large segment of young people in this global forum. The forum also focused on three of the UN’s sustainable development goals of education, climate and gender equality.

Former Lebanese Minister of Education and Higher Education visits ASU

The University was hosted by Prof. Hassan Dhiab, former Lebanese Minister of Education and Higher Education and Vice President of the American University of Beirut, where he was received by Prof. D. Waheeb Al Khaja, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Ghassan Aouad, President of the University, Vice Presidents, Counselors, Deans and members of the academic and administrative members of the University.

During the meeting, they discussed ways of cooperation between the University and the American University in Beirut. The guest also listened to a brief introduction about the University and the attendees. Finally, he was acquainted with the University facilities offered by the campus to students. Prof. Hassan Dhiab praised the infrastructure of ASU buildings and facilities at the various classrooms and laboratories.

ASU received a delegation from the Thai Embassy in Bahrain and a delegation from the Prince Songkla University of Thailand. The visit comes as part of the promotion of bilateral relations between the University and Arab and International Universities.

The meeting discussed several themes for the prospects of joint cooperation between the two Universities in order to support the University’s march in line with its mission and vision, and contribute to supporting the educational process at the University.

Prof. Ghassan Aouad received an academic delegation from the Italian University of Messina, where he discussed the ways to enhance joint cooperation between the two Universities and exchange experiences in various fields, thus enhancing ASU’s progress and contributing to the development of the education offered to students.

The University received a high-level Russian delegation. It included VIP personalities and representatives from the higher education sector in Russia, where they were received by Dr. Assem Al Hajj Vice President for Academic Affairs and Development and a selection of members of senior management at the University.

The visit comes from the Russian city of Saint Petersburg as part of the mutual visits between the Kingdom of Bahrain and Russia that aimed at consolidating strategic relations and enhancing the level of coordination in various areas. The visit of the Russian delegation to the Kingdom is also to discuss ways to continue activating the memorandum of cooperation between the Capital City and the Russian City on the promotion of cooperation in various fields.

The University participated as a gold sponsor at the Bahrain International Exhibition for Education and Training, which was held under the patronage of HE the Minister of Labour and Social Development, Mr. Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre. The Expo was participated by more than 65 Universities and institutes from 20 Arab and foreign countries, in the presence of the President of the University, Prof. Ghassan Aouad. The opening was also attended by a number of ASU’s senior management members and VIP from various governmental and private sectors.

ASU is keen to participate in exhibitions inside and outside the Kingdom of Bahrain to familiarize the public with ASU programmes and specializations

and to promote the Kingdom of Bahrain as a regional centre for education and training in the region. The University has also introduced its new courses in Engineering and Business Management and offers its students a diverse and rich university life that builds their personality and motivates them to develop themselves in line with the needs of the times and labour market.

ASU staff and students, who participated in the exhibition, provided a detailed induction of the University and its specializations. They also answered inquires and questions from visitors and concerned students and parents.

From her side, Mrs. Ruqaya Mohsen, Director of Directorate of Marketing and Public Relations, confirmed that

the expo provided visitors with an opportunity to learn about the new Faculty of Engineering. It will be started in the first semester of the academic year 2017-2018. In collaboration with the British University South Bank, and Business Studies in cooperation with the British Cardiff Metropolitan University, where the Applied Sciences University is the first private University in Bahrain to introduce the accredited British certificate, which will reflect positively on the support of the educational process at the University in line with the strategic plan which aimed at arriving on the global horizon through cooperation with international Universities.

ASU participated at the University Expo at Nasser Vocational Training Centre, which was held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of (Nasser Vocational Training Centre). Ghassan Aouad, President of the University, said that the exhibition is an important step towards ASU programme’s introduction to students and visitors. The President also pointed out the importance of the participation in this exhibition because it focuses on its content on the issue of human development by highlighting the activities of higher education and vocational training and responding to the labour market requirements.

In her turn, Mrs. Ruqaya Mohsen, Director of Directorate of Marketing and Public Relations, clarified that ASU’s participation aims to demonstrate the progress achieved by the Kingdom in academic and educational in recent years. The University’s participation also comes within ASU plans to provide the best services to students by introducing them to the specializations offered by the University and granting them a British certificate from London South Bank and Cardiff University.

ASU alumni club held two workshops for a number of the University students and alumni, presented by Mr. Yasser Abu Seneh, Director of Training and Development Unit and Head of HR Department, Dr. Fatima Al Malki and an Assistant Professor at Bahrain Teachers College.

These workshops are part of the alumni’s mission, which seeks to serve the graduates and create sustainable relationships between them and the University, enhance their responsibility sense and develop a spirit of loyalty and citizenship towards the University and society.

The workshop was attended by Prof. Ghassan Aouad, President of the University, where he honoured the lecturers and participants in the workshop. The workshop was also attended by Mrs. Noora Musalam, Manager of Career Development and Alumni Affairs Office.

It is worth mentioning that the Alumni Club was inaugurated under the patronage of HE Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bin Attiyah Al Khalifa, which aims to serve as the long-lasting link between alumni and their University in the interest of the students, alumni and University.

The 1st Annual Alumni Meeting

The First Annual Alumni Meeting was held under the patronage of the President of the University, Prof. Ghassan Aouad at the Museums Department. The meeting was attended by the University President, Vice Presidents, Deans, Academic and Administrative Members.

During the meeting, Prof. Ghassan expressed his happiness and pride in the new alumni, and he praised their efforts and contribution to the success and enhancement of the academic

dimension to achieve ASU’s vision. He also stressed the importance of the role played by the club, pointing out that ASU graduates are our ambassadors in various forums and events.

On her part, Dr. Faiza Zitouni, Dean of Student Affairs, emphasized the achievements and efforts made by the club and in support of the Board of Directors at its first session, which is considered as a starting point to achieve better results in the coming

years. The meeting witnessed many events such as a welcome message to Alumni, a brief about the club, its objectives and achievements, and finally the alumni membership categories, in addition to any recommendations for the University management. At the end of the event, Prof. Ghassan honoured the members of the club’s Board of Directors, and Museums Department for hosting this event.
