  • To unify the nation around true worship of God by showing his standard for judging kings. The righteous kings of Judah and the religious revivals under their rule are highlighted and the sins of the evil kinds are exposed.

  • To show Gods faithfulness and the way he kept his promise to restore his people to their land.

  • Gods intervention in history.
  • Sauls reign to return from exile.

11. Tobit

  • Devout Jew in exile, and of his son Tobias.
  • Despite good works, Tobit is mysteriously blinded
  • Begs God to take his life .

12. Tobit

  • The story inculcates ideals of benevolence, marriage, and prayer, with assurances that God is a God of mercy toward the long-suffering righteous and punishes the wicked

  • The moral is as much about the dangers of a beautiful woman

  • Instruction on Israels observance to God.
  • Shows God as master of all events.

  • Same story in both books but different viewpoint (like Gospels).
  • 1+2 shows God as Israels source of help.
  • 2 gives teachings on resurrection of the Dead/saints.

16. 1 Kings&2 Kings

  • Pick a story from1 Kingsor2 Kings and be able to write a 1 page essay about how the particular story relates to your faith life. You will need to site specific examples from the story.
