Choose a time and place for reading that will help rather than hinder your concentration.

Pre-read the material. As you pre-read, assess the difficulty of both the writing style and the content. Are there a lot of difficult words? Are the sentences long and complicated? How factual is the material? How much background information do you have on the subject?
