1/1
IntroductionThe Rectorate of the UNIL, with the help of the faculties, has decided to open a part-time studyoption for Masters level programmes (see Regulation 3.12 on www.unil.ch/interne/page44629.html). Many students, for personal or employment reasons, are forced to interrupt their univer-
sity studies or obliged to regularly seek derogations during their degree course. This situationis regrettable insofar as family responsibilities, a handicap, a social obligation or activity in theworkplace are a part of life and should be supported by the University with an arrangement thatis not based on exceptions to the rule.

Admission requirements for the part-

Candidates must meet the admissi-on conditions specific to each Masters.Candidates must also submit a coveringletter outlining the reasons for their appli-cation to register part-time. The followingreasons may be cited:
* Health problem (handicap, illness);* Family responsibilities (children; spouse

Organisation of studies
Part-time study corresponds to fifty percent of full-time study. It is impossibleto switch from a full-time study pro-gramme to a part-time programme whilethe Masters course is in progress (bearingin mind that, in cases of force majeure, derogations from the maximum study
period are provided in the full-time studyregulations).
Part-time study plans are based on theexisting teaching provision of full-time pro-grammes. They offer an extended degreecourse and a specific examination time-table while guaranteeing consistency ofthe study programme.
Normal duration of part-time studies
6 semesters for a Masters with 90 ECTScredits (maximum duration 8 semesters)
8 semesters for a Masters with 120 ECTScredits (maximum duration 12 semesters)
