LIVING BEINGS

Page 2: Unicellular and pluricellular living things

All living beings are made up of cells

Page 3: Unicellular and pluricellular living things

Life started long time ago...

Every single living being

evolved from simpler

structures of cells than

they are now.

Page 4: Unicellular and pluricellular living things

Unicellular living beings

Their bodies are made up of one cell, like virus and bacterium

Page 5: Unicellular and pluricellular living things

Cells organized in groups becoming into a new structure.

What are CELLS?• Cells are the tiny building blocks of

living things.• All cells, whether plant or animal have

the same basic parts: cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus, nuclear membrane, vacuoles and mitochondria.

Each part performs a specific function.• A cell is able to reproduce by means

of splitting. Previously the nucleus doubles and divides in half so each new cell has a copy of the cell´s instructions

How do cells How do cells work?work?

• They use their parts to perform different jobs.

• Cell membrane separates it, gives the cell its shape and control what goes into and out of it.

• Cytoplasm is a jellylike liquid. It is inside the cell membrane.

• Vacuoles are tiny oval structures that store food, water or wastes. They are inside the cytoplasm.

• Mitochondria helps to change food into the necessary energy to do the cell work. It is inside the cytoplasm too.

• Nucleus contains the instructions for running the cell. It is surrounded by the nuclear membrane whose function is similar to cell membrane.

PLANT CELL

Page 10: Unicellular and pluricellular living things

PLANT CELLS HOWEVER...

• ...have two additional parts that animal cells do not.

• Plant cells have cell walls around the cell membrane to support and protect the cell.

• Plant cells also contain chloroplasts with a green substance called chlorophyll.Chlorophyll traps energy from sunlight and enables the plant to make its own food.

Cells form tissues

CELLS ARE DIFFERENT

• Cells do not all look the same. Their shape depends on the job they do.

• A group of cells which carry out a specific task form a tissue.

• All tissues that make a common function form an organ.

Tissues, organs and systems

There are several systems in the bodies of living beings that are organized and

specialized to do specific tasks .

All systems have to work at the same

time in a coordinated

process.
