The privilege of literacy opens a world of knowledge to the reader, whether in a blog, in a newspaper, or on twitter. Words, alone, have the ability to inspire, such as those presented by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. or those chanted by protestors in Egypt, Libya, New York, and Washington, DC; therefore, we all have the capability of bettering the society we live in by reading, writing, and encouraging the literacy of others. Missed “The Power of Words”?

In an increasingly global society, the importance of literacy is at an all-time high. Today, read a book, read another to a friend or child, and educate yourself on the possibilities of literacy.

Beauty

We know that in order to counteract the dominant standards of beauty, we must begin cultivating our

own self-worth and the self-worth of others. If you are interested in on-campus projects to promote real

beauty and healthy esteem, contact [email protected] for more information.

Professional Development

Continue cultivating relationships with the students, faculty, and staff who attended the last talk on Women

in the Workplace. Take these next steps: create or update your resume, reach out to a faculty or staff

member present at the talk, and READ! Read about your field of interest and fields outside of your interest. An idle mind kills the grind. Contact [email protected] with any questions.
