AUSD – Minutes – Meeting of May 5, 2005

Discussion/Information Items: 8. Financial Report for: Child Nutrition (March 2005) was presented. 9. Summary of Conferences and Trainings were presented. 10. Monthly Facility Update: Wendel Tucker, Assistant Superintendent of Operational Support Services, provided a brief Power Point presentation on the progress at the new Child Nutrition Services site, upgrades on various campuses and the Facilities Master Plan. 11. CONDUCT PUBLIC HEARING – Classified Negotiations: No one came forward. Board/Superintendent Comments: José Luis Pérez – Mr. Pérez commented that he read with interest the correspondence from Family Services Association and the stipulations that they put at the bottom, including possibly litigation and the things that they can and cannot, will, will not do. I found that very interesting. My concern is that after the Board gave direction we would still negotiate an extension of the terms of the June 30 deadline, when they have indicated in communication with Dr. Wendel Tucker they were already looking for another place to move, it appears that by June 30 they would be ready to pull up the anchor. Mr. Pérez welcomed a special person, Beth Jessup, the Superintendent’s lovely wife. Greg Kraft – Mr. Kraft mentioned that he spent a lot of time at the District this week and had an opportunity to read the Health curriculum. My compliments to whomever the committee was that adopted those books, they were outstanding. They were very pro-family and defense mechanisms, a lot of great material in there. Thank you to the Superintendent and his entire staff, we put a lot of pressure on you. Ben Johnson – Mr. Johnson stated that Promenade Elementary School did a great job decorating the Board Room. Thank you to staff for a pretty in-depth packet this week. It takes a lot of time to do that, we do not say thank you enough for your efforts. Zack Earp – Mr. Earp thanked staff for all of their hard work and dedication. Mike McKelroy – Mr. McKelroy stated that he agrees with Mr. Earp, staff is very dedicated. Mr. McKelroy thanked Beth Jessup for coming to the meeting. Mr. McKelroy’s dog Ken enjoyed being in Mr. Leslie’s class and was not tired after six hours. Mr. McKelroy encouraged everyone to attend the CTA/AEA rally on June 1, 2005, in Riverside.

511. DISCUSSION/ INFORMATION ITEMS BOARD/SUPT. COMMENTS

AUSD – Minutes – Meeting of May 5, 2005

Paul Jessup – Mr. Jessup commended Norte Vista High School staff, including classified, certificated and management for a great job on their WASC preparation. The District received some good direction and is already working on those items. Mr. & Mrs. Jessup attended the WASC Reception on Sunday, April 24, 2005, along with approximately 35 staff members. The WASC team was very impressed with the turn-out. Mr. Jessup thanked Doris Gale, CSEA President Chapter 339 and Craig Adams, AEA President, for wrapping up negotiations with a good conclusion and strong relationship. Mr. Jessup praised Alvord students, stating that we have good kids working very hard during this testing time and also working hard on things that are not tested. Good things are happening in the Alvord Unified School District. The meeting adjourned to Closed Session at 9:30 p.m. with action expected following Closed Session. The meeting reconvened at 9:43 p.m. Action Taken in Closed Session: Ben Johnson, Board Clerk, reported that in Closed Session the Board of Education took action to reject the claim submitted by the parents of student #4000300. The vote was: Ayes – 5 Noe – 0 . The meeting adjourned at 9:45 p.m. _________________________________ Paul C. Jessup Secretary to the Board
