Form Guidance

In support of the University’s Athena SWAN agenda and ongoing commitment to promoting and valuing leadership development and career progression for women across the University the People and Culture Directorate are funding 12 places on the 2018/19 Aurora Programme.

Aurora is a leadership development programme for women up to senior lecturer/ researcher and professional services upto grade 8, who think of themselves as future leaders, (or are open to considering this). It aims to encourage participants to recognise their talent and capabilities, think about their future careers, consider “stepping up” to promotional posts and to consider leadership and management as one option for progression. Therefore, participants should be ambitious for a career in the HE sector and willing to actively engage in developing their leadership potential.

Programme Overview - Aurora uses a combination of four interlinked development days; an action learning set; self-directed learning and in-house mentoring. You must attend all four themed days (Identity, Impact and Voice; Power and Politics; Core Leadership Skills; Adaptive Leadership Skills) and the Action Learning set day.

The Aurora Programme is delivered at a range of venues across the UK and in Dublin. To provide participants with an opportunity to access wider networks and gain a UK perspective People and Culture are funding programme fees (£1000pp) plus a single additional payment to enable participants to travel to one development day outside of Dublin. This year participants can select from London, Birmingham, Edinburgh or Cardiff.

Application queries can be directed to Clare Madden ext 66884; [email protected]

The choice of venues and dates are in Appendix 1. Please select the five dates you can attend by circling them. Please note you can choose to attend a mix of locations, but your Action Learning Set must be in the same location as your Power and Politics day. People and Culture are covering the programme fees and they are also funding the travel/accommodation for ONE workshop. This is for a non-Dublin based workshop only (based on the University standard rates). Your Department/Faculty covers all other travel costs and it is worth exploring with your budget holder if there is further scope for attending additional non Dublin venues.

Please complete and return (electronic or hard copy) form to Clare Madden [email protected] in People and Culture, Room 2F07, Jordanstown, by Monday 6th

August 2018.

As these funded places are limited, a group chaired by the University Aurora Champion will prioritise nominations should places be oversubscribed.

Aurora Schedule Appendix 1

Please clearly circle your 5 selections and return with your form

Start time and Dates: Please note that start and finish times can vary.

*Please note: Aurora has been designed to be as flexible as possible. So participants can choose whatever dates and venues work best for them. The only exception is that the day on Power and Politics and the Action Learning Set have to be undertaken in the same location for logistical purposes. Each Learning

Set will be made up of participants from different institutions wherever possible and these groups are allocated on the Power and Politics Day. It is likely, but not guaranteed, that the Action Learning Sets will take place in the region in which Power and Politics is held.
