Wheels Festival and Doug Davidson Memori-al Air Show which will be held at the Uiten-hage Airfield on Saturday.The highly effective fire fighting combina-
tion of a Cessna 182 spotter plane winged bya huge Bell UH-1 “Huey” from Working OnFire (WOF) aerial fire combating teamwill onbe seen in action on Saturday. The Huey wasdeveloped for the US military by the Ameri-can company Bell, for the Vietnam War. Allthe WOF Hueys have been fitted with Bambi
buckets capable of dropping 1 100 litres of wa-ter on a fire.“This will be a rare opportunity for festival
goers to see how the Huey and spotter planeoperate together with the local fire brigade.The Huey will scoop water and drop it offalongside the runway at a mock fire,” saidLourens Kruger, Wings & Wheels Festivalevent organiser.“It will not be a real fire, just smoke. As fire
will not be allowed close to the airfield accord-
ing to the rules and regulations applicable atthe airshow.”TheWings &Wheels Festival and Doug Da-
vidson Memorial Airshow will start on Fri-day at 10:00 with entertainment and stalls.From 16:00 onwards aircraft will start arriv-ing and at 19:00 theAfrikaans singer andWestCoast storytellerAndriesVermeulenwill per-form at the Uitenhage Airfield. On Saturday the action starts at 08:00with a parade of veteran vehicles and mo-torcycleswithKarel Spangenberg fromAl-goa Steel leading the parade in his big yel-low Jeep all the way from VW AutoPavil-ion through the streets of Uitenhage to theairfield.Various aircraft, veteran vehicles,
Street Rods,motorcycles and off-road vehi-cleswill be on display and therewill be lotsof outdoor activities and of course exhila-rating flying in the sky on Saturday asfrom 11:00. “I did not see the Biker.” This is a phrase alltoo familiar to many bikers who have beeninvolved in road accidents resulting in seri-ous injuries at huge medical costs and unfor-tunately for some even fatal.
An extract from the bikers prayer “watchover my brothers who ride with me, keepthem safe and close to thee, keep my wheelsupon the ground so I‘ll return home safe andsound.”The above resulted in the establishment of
the Ratel Rally of which the third editionwasheld last weekend at The Springs on the out-skirts of Uitenhage.The Ratel Rally is an old school rally,
which is hosted by the Dirty Dozen with thepurpose of generating funds for the BikersBenevolent Fund (BBF) a registered non-profit organization.“All funds raised at the Ratel Rally will be
used to the benefit of bikers in need. The con-cept of the Ratel Rally is to host a rally in thesame way that rallies were held in the olddays,” said ChairmanEddieHall, BBFChair-man.“A critical and non negotiable rule is that
there are only bikes and trikes and no vehi-cles.”According to Hall, approximately 800 bik-
ers from all over South Africa includingNamibia attended the Ratel Rally. On Satur-day morning BBF member Pastor Zigi Dewyof the ChristianMotorcycle Association held
a wedding ceremony for bikers Willie andAlethea Roach of the CodedMotorcycle Club,Port Elizabeth.“The message the BBF wishes to spread is
that all road users give caution to bikers.They therefore will continue to enjoy thepleasure of biking and raise vast sums offunds for their communities,” said Hall.This was the case with the Union Rene-
gades MC who donated R5 000 to assist theUitenhage SPCA after a container was de-stroyed by fire last Friday.Hall thanked Lion President André van
Niekerk for the service provided to all thosethat attended the Ratel Rally which contrib-uted to its overall success.

Twee vraghouers wat as pakkamers dienop die DBV-terrein het gister omstreeks 01:30aan die brand geraak. Werkers by ’n nabyge-leë onderneming het die vlamme gesien endie polisie daarvan verwittig. Die brandweerwas kort daarna op die toneel om die brandte blus – enkele meter van die hokke waar 55katte gehuisves word.“Al wat deur my kop gegaan het terwyl ek
na die hokke gehardloop het, was dat ek diekattemoet red, want toe al het ’n kathangmaten struik in die hoek naaste aan die vuurreeds begin vlamvat,” het Koos Kroukamp,inspekteur by die DBV, gesê.Bestuurslede en personeel krap kop oor

Volgens Tonneson het die DBV sedert Okto-ber 2014 verskeie kere onder diewe deurge-loop. “Wat vir ons baie ontstellend is, is datboosdoeners van ons varke en ’n bees komslag het. Onvoldoende beligting belemmer diesekuriteitskameras se beeldgehalte.”

Following the disastrous fire at the Uiten-hage SPCA in the early hours of last Fri-day morning, the feeling of despair anddisbelief at the shelter has been replacedby one of amazement.This is solely as a result of overwhelm-
ing response and generosity of the public,both locally and nationally. “Donationshave been received from as far afield asCape Town, Johannesburg, Springbokand Durban.A steady streamof individuals, club and

individuals responsible for making theplight of the shelter known.“The sheer volume of donations reflects

Safety at the Jubilee Park Cemetery in Uit-enhage has been a matter of huge concernfor the past few years. The construction ofa new boundary fence and solid concretewalls might bring more peace of mind forpersons visiting the graves of loved-ones atthis cemetery.
According to Councillor Pieter Ter-blanche, the Betafence which has beenerected alongside Dower Avenue as well asthe solid concrete boundary walls, whichcurrently are in the process of being erect-ed, hopefully will contribute to the safety ofvisitors.“The fence is an anti-vandal and anti-
climb fence which is characterised by smallmesh apertures and its features allow visi-bility especially for security reasons,” saidCouncillor Terblanche.“Apart from the fact that visitors are be-
ing harassed, intimidated and robbed byscoundrels roaming the cemetery, grave-stones are vandalised and grazing cows alsocause damage.”Councillor Terblanche said the fence and
solid concrete wall will definitely be effec-tive inpreventing cows from furtherdamag-ing the gravestones. Security in the form ofpersonspatrolling the areawill still beneed-ed, as in the past therewere incidentswherecriminals have hidden in trees inside thecemetery and then targeted visitors una-ware of their presence.The contractor, Afrisec Strategic Solu-
tions, has been appointed by the NelsonMandela Bay municipality to erect theboundary concrete wall and fence at the Ju-bilee Park cemetery.

is bosslapers, rotte, skerpioene en mense watin die nag van die klubs af kom en klippe teenons mure gooi. Daar is vir my gesê ek moetself uitvind wie die eienaar is, dit is mos niehoe dit werk nie,” het ’n ontstelde mev. Heckgesê.
