RESIDENT Q & A

Favorite thing about living on campus: The sense of community; being around

people of your own age is great for building friendships. I’m still friends with

everyone I lived with.

Favorite memories of living on campus: The benches at Libra were a perfect

place to sit outside and talk.

Advice to freshmen residents: Leave your room; go to community areas and

meet people. Go to RA events and programs to learn about UCF and to make

new friends.

Favorite program: The ice cream social was great! Lots of people attended

and we played board games until 2 a.m.

All UCF housing communities have Resident Assistants (RAs) who help you make the most of your transition and experience

at UCF. From campus resources to day-to-day life events, your RA helps you with every facet of campus life. Your RA takes the time to get to know you and helps you create connections within your community.

“ I like being a resourceful RA, one that can provide answers to questions residents may have. I also love being a comfort to students who may be homesick, and I try to make our floor their home away from home. I appreciate the opportunity to be a friend and mentor.” —COURTNEY FAHERTY, Education Major

F irst-year students can live in any of our housing communities, but the following communities are specially designed with you

in mind. With two-semester agreements (fall/spring) and dedicated services, programs and staff, our first-year communities help to ensure a smooth transition to college life.

Shared bedrooms available in Nike, Hercules, Libra and Apollo, are typically reserved for first-year students because of the unique opportunity to live and interact with each other. Each student is provided with a bed, desk, chair, dresser and closet. First-year housing is the best place to build friendships that will last a lifetime.

Are first-year students guaranteed housing at UCF?

No, students are not guaranteed housing at UCF. There are more students who request housing than can be accommodated on the Orlando campus, so apply for housing as soon as you are admitted. Many students who do not get on-campus housing live at Knights Circle or The Pointe at Central.

What is the difference between a two-semester (fall/spring) agreement and a three-semester (fall/spring/summer) agreement?

This is one of the first decisions you will make. Students who choose a two-semester agreement will live in their assigned room for Fall 2013 and Spring 2014, leaving during the winter break. This option is only available in first-year housing located on the main campus. Residents of the Rosen College Apartments will also have this type of agreement but are not required to leave during the winter break.

Students who choose The Towers or NorthView will sign a three-semester agreement for Fall 2013, Spring 2014 and Summer 2014—never having to leave during their agreement. Knights Circle and The Pointe at Central residents sign a lease for 11.5 months.

Where can I get more information on housing rates and options?

Up-to-date housing information is available at housing.ucf.edu. Rates are subject to change.

Can I bring my car to campus?

It’s not necessary to have a car at UCF, but parking is available for students living on campus. A shuttle system is available and serves the on- and off-campus apartment complexes. Parking information is available at parking.ucf.edu.

YOU HAVE QUESTIONS.

Are housing tours available?

A residence hall room is available for tours at noon and 4 p.m., and an apartment at The Towers is available at 1:15 p.m. Tours are Monday–Friday, except on holidays. Several rooms are available during Undergraduate Admissions Open Houses and during first-year student orientation. Tours in Spanish are available upon request.

HOUSING APPLICATION PROCESS

Apply online. It’s easy!

Apply for admission to UCF at admissions.ucf.edu. Once you are admitted, you can apply for housing.

Review housing choices in this brochure or see a video tour at housing.ucf.edu.

Complete a housing agreement at my.ucf.edu.

For detailed application instructions, visit the Housing website and select “Apply.”

Reminders:

· A prepayment is required for the housing agreement to be accepted as complete.

· Students may view their housing status on myUCF.

· Students can make roommate requests, choose Living Learning programs and indicate room preferences on myUCF.

· Once assigned, room and roommate assignment information is available on myUCF.

· Housing agreements are subject to cancellation, and any prepayments will be forfeited if the admissions enrollment deposit is not paid.

Note: First-year students are given preference for housing on the Orlando main campus. Students of all classifications may apply for the student housing located at The Towers at Knights Plaza, Rosen College Apartments and NorthView. Married and family student housing is not available at UCF.

No student is guaranteed housing on campus, so everyone is encouraged to apply early.
