Uber To Start Delivering Lunches Downtown With UberEATSService

THE LOOP -- Uber is getting into the food delivery business.

Starting Tuesday, the hungry and too busy in the Loop and River North can have their lunchesdelivered using the UberEATS feature on their Uber smartphone app, traditionally used to hail rides.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. every weekday, Uber drivers who traditionally use their cars to take peoplefrom one part of Chicago to another will deliver one of two meal choices priced $9 to $13 each plus a$3 delivery charge.

During those hours, these drivers will be dedicated to delivering meals and won't carry passengers.

"We'll bring your lunch to you if you don't have the time to get it yourself," said Qiana Curry, whohas been driving for Uber since December, and delivered sandwiches from Rick Bayless' XOCOduring a test run Monday.

Chicago will be one of four cities with the service that promises lunch in less than 10 minutes.It already exists in Los Angeles and Barcelona, and New York City is also getting it Tuesday.

Here's the menu for the rest of this week:

o Tuesday: XOCO's Pepito Torta or XOCO Salad

o Wednesday: Freshii's Market Salad with Chicken or County BBQ's Pulled Pork Sandwich

o Thursday: Bountiful Eatery's Santa Fe Salad with Chicken or Cemitas Puebla Carne Asada Cemita

o Friday: Doc B's California Salad or DMK Burger Bar's No. 1 Burger
