Learning is an active process of gaining

knowledge, insights, and skills through

study, experience, or instruction.

Learning styles are internally based

characteristics of individuals for the intake

or understanding of new information

(Reid: 1995)

Kinds of Learning Styles:

1. Visual learners

2. Auditory learners

3. Kinesthetic learners

Learning strategies are specific actions

taken by the learner to make learning

easier, faster, more enjoyable, more self-

directed, more effective, and more

applicable to real situations.

Ho : There is no influence of knowledge of learning styles and learning strategies on the students’ scores

H1 : There is influence of knowledge of learning styles and learning strategies on the students’ scores

How significant is the knowledge of

To find out the influence of knowledge of

styles and learning strategies on the

students’ score

Place : LIA English School

Location : Buahbatu, Bandung – West Java

36 students in Intermediate 3 from 2 different

classes and registered in 2003 academic year, 10

from colleges and the rest from SMU

Divide into 2 classes (each 18 students) : class A

as experiment class and class B as control class

Quantitative experimental study

1st : ‘Modified’ Barsh Learning-Style Inventory

2nd : Students’ notation learning strategies

3rd : Game city to confirm their learning style

4th : Test 1 & test 2

All the instruments that collected from both “A”

(experiment class) and “B” (control class)

were analyzed, classified, and interpreted;

there were the data from group A to follow-up

The treatment has an effect/influence on students’ score/achievement

T observed (68) is more than t value (2,11) meaning that Ho is rejected.

If the learners have recognized their own learning

styles and learning strategies, they will be easy

to implement the ways to learn English effectively

An independent/autonomous learners so that

they can keep improving their abilities even there

is no teacher around
