The Peace Crusade in Wesbank ended offon a high note with a Call Out for a PeaceMarch through the streets this past week-end.
The Peace Crusade from 20 August to2 September, was born after differentroleplayers within the gang infested com-munity took a stance against the violenceand established the Initiators for Peacegroup, aimed at facilitating peace. Thegroup consists of members of differentchurches, schools, community leaders,NGOs and other community organisa-tions.
Deneen Jaftha, of the Initiators of Peacegroup says: “This event isimplemented due to thegang related killings hap-pening in our area there-fore New Hope Ministriesand Initiators for Peace de-cided to put up a Call Out forPeace tent to claim our kidsback.”
Past Cornelius Pietersfrom the AFM New HopeMinistries is the personwho had the vision for thePeace Crusade and who fa-cilitated other communityinvolvement.
Special guest speaker ofthe Crusade was Dan Plato,
provincial minister for community safetywho addressed the community and joinedthem on a walkabout in the area.
One of the long-term projects born outof the Peace Crusade is the launch of acommunity kitchen for which assistanceis needed.
This kitchen is set to benefit the wholecommunity and will be the place fromwhich an outreach programme will berun.

Education is also about learning lessonsin life.
That is the important message that a groupof Grade 10 learners from Valhalla Second-ary have learnt after completing a Life Ori-entation (LO) project in the community.
The group of learners, Ashleen Swanepoel,Stephny Fortuin, Jamie-Lee Stemmet, Car-men April and Destiny Francis, decided thatthey could show how youth care about theirneighbourhood when they were given a LOproject to show how they could make a differ-ence in the lives of others.
For the first part of their project they de-cided that they would visit the Elsies RiverSAPS and offer to help with chores aroundthe station.
“Sometimes we forget how hard the policework in our areas to keep us safe,” saidSwanepoel.
“While we could not help them with theircrime-fighting we decided that there weremany other ways that we could show themthat we care.”
Communication officer at the station, CaptPierre Jordaan, said that the police werethankful for the project.
“Efforts like these are really appreciatedby the police,” he said.
“They showed how much they cared by do-ing chores in our kitchen every afternoon,general cleaning up in the station and evenwashing vehicles.
“They touched the hearts of all that theymet during their visit.”
To end off their project they decided thatwith the help of the police they wanted toshow other young people how youth shouldcare for their community.
“We ended our project by organising a
soup kitchen at Clarke Primary,” added Des-tiny Francis.
“This was also an important part of ourproject because there are too many childrenthat are going to school hungry.
“When we handed out the soup and breadit was a joy for us to see how thankful thechildren were.”
Apart from their tasks the group was alsomonitored on their interaction with the pub-lic, their behaviour and punctuality.

Police in Delft continue to take their fightagainst crime seriously.
They are making strides in the recoveryof drugs and attribute this to the fosteringof stronger ties with the community.
Last week Delft police arrested a well-known drug dealer in their area in possessi-
on of a huge amount of tik. The arrest follo-wed after members of the Delft Crime Pre-vention Unit, who were busy with vehiclepatrol duties, spotted a black Corsa deliveryvehicle with tinted windows.
When they stopped the vehicle in LimpopoStreet, Eindhoven, they searched the 30-ye-
ar-old suspect and found 1 150 tik straws and400 sachets of tik with an estimated street va-lue of R50 000 in a plastic bag, in his possessi-on.
The suspect was arrested and will appearin the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on a char-ge of dealing in drugs.

Die tydsraamwerk vir die GOP en begroting vir 2012/13 bevat ’n uiteensetting van dieaktiwiteite verbonde aan die opstel van die begroting en hersiene GOP vir 2013/14. Diedoel van die hersiening is om te verseker dat veranderende omstandighede by munisipalebeplanning in ag geneem word.

He has started the Bishop Lavis Chess Clubthat operates from tables set up in his back-yard, but it has not stopped them from win-
ning most of their games.He said that he has always had a passion

get it out of mymind to encourage childrento start playing, and I just plunged right in-
to it. I have enrolled two teams into the leaguethat play at Wittebome Civic Centre everyThursday night, and in ourmost recent match-es our A-team won 5-0 and our B-team 4-0 (onematch ended in stalemate).“This proves that we have talent in the sport

Platinum Stars succumbed to a 4-1 defeat atthe hands of Ajax Cape Town in their AbsaPremiership encounter at a cold, windy andwet Cape Town Stadium on Friday night.
A brace of goals by Bradley Grobler, Kea-gan Dolly and Khama Billiat completed thescoring for the Urban Warriors.
Ajax took the lead after a fortunate deflec-tion landed at the feet of Keagan Dolly infront of the Platinum Stars goal, and theyoung debutant made no mistake to giveAjax a 1-0 lead.
Platinum Stars got their goal throughPatrick Malokase, who continued where heleft off last season by netting a penalty mid-way through the first half.
The home side were ahead when a poorclearance from the back allowed Dolly to runon goal and the former Mamelodi Sundownsdevelopment player provided a calm finish.
Ajax got the second half off to a perfectstart when Grobler tapped in his second goalof the evening in the 46th minute of the game.
