FROM THE PRESIDENTFALL / WINTER 2018 NEWSLETTER

part of this team, I am continuing to grow my practice as a Financial Advisor with Edward Jones. My husband, Patrick, and I have been married for nearly 12 years and we have three beautiful and energetic children; one of whom has four paws. Camdyn, our son with ten fingers and ten toes, is in the 2nd grade at Our Lady of Lourdes. Avelyn, our daughter who also has ten fingers and ten toes, is in the pre-kindergarten program at Our Lady of Lourdes. Last, but certainly not least, Reggie, our four-pawed child, is is a two year old Bull Terrier mix which we recently adopted from the Maclean-Cameron Animal Adoption Center. We have been adjusting to our new family member's youthfulness after our two elder, rescued pit bulls passed away.

The Maclean-Cameron Animal Adoption Center has had a fun-filled year raising funds for the betterment of the animals in our care. We cherish and appreciate all of your donations as we are the community's only animal care facility run strictly on donations received from you. We started off the year with our annual benefit dinner, the Fur Ball on April 21, 2018. The Fur Ball is a gala event held at the Heritage Inn featuring the purple paw winner announcement, a silent auction and live music. This was followed by our summer event, Tails and Ales, on August 9, 2018. Tails and Ales is a free event which features a silent auction and live music at the Center. We host this annual event for the community to help celebrate our birthday (MCAAC opened August of 2015). This year, we had the privilege of hosting Cesar Millan at the Mansfield Theater. It was a great night of learning how to be the pack leader. My four-pawed child, Reggie, was featured during the show as well! If you happened to miss either the Fur Ball or Tails and Ales, please join us in 2019 to show your support and simply have a pawsitively purrfect time!

Moving forward, our Board of Trustees and Fundraising Committee are pooling our resources to kick off "The Grand 1000" capital campaign event. More information regarding this campaign can be found within this newsletter.

A Note From The Executive Director

OUR STAFF

“I love animals and there’s nothing I enjoy more than being able to love and care for dogs and cats who don’t have a home or someone to call their own. The Maclean-Cameron Animal Adoption Center gives me the opportunity to do what I love most!” - Ellie

“I love seeing how the animals change from when they come to us to when they leave. It’s amazing how a dog can come in so scared and frightened and when we work with them they become a totally different dog. They leave here with wagging tails and smiles because they know they are going to a new home.” - Anabelle

“Taking care of the cats and dogs is rewarding. They each have their own personalities and watching their personalities grow is amazing. The best part is watching the dogs and cats get adopted and go to their forever homes.” - Amy

“There are many reasons why I love to work at the Maclean-Cameron Animal Adoption Center. The satisfac-tion of knowing that the animals in our care are receiving the best care by a loving staff is one of

”I love working with the fur babies - they need so much love and time. When they are happy it makes my heart glad. This is the best job ever!” – Denise

“Animals are my passion in life. I love working at the front desk and being the first person people see and talk to. It’s such an exciting and emotional time when an animal gets to go to its forever home.” – Tonya

“I enjoy working at the Center because of the wonderful animals we help find homes for. The post-adoption stories are absolutely amazing” – Karin

“I am beyond fortunate to consistently witness the phenomenal amount of kindness and generosity that exist in our community! Donations of goods (especially touching are the donations of items for pets in lieu of birthday gifts for themselves that children make), services, money and time by individuals, service groups, businesses and schools are the lifeblood of our Center. In addition, my heart regularly fills with joy when I see the pureness of love that cats and dogs show to humans.” – Pam

to our non-profit’s mission during the past year and how our BOT and staff have used these funds to care for voiceless cats and dogs in need. The need for your continued support is real!

Even the smallest act of giving has the potential to turn a life around.

The donation of an hour of your time petting a cat can teach him that he is worthy of love, no matter what his past nights spent alone in the cold without food may have taught him.

The gift of a toy can provide enrichment for a dog sitting in a kennel waiting to be adopted.

The donation of the change you collect from clothes in the laundry room for six months can provide medical care for the kitten who has an upper respiratory infection.

The provision or purchase of a piece of jewelry during one of our fundraisers can raise the money needed to provide nourishment for the cats, kittens, dogs and puppies under our roof at any given time.

The leadership and guidance you offer as a member of the Board of Trustees or a committee can help to ensure that our organization is well equipped to fulfill its mission with integrity and adequate funding.

The bequest of an estate gift can help pay the wages for the caring shelter staff that cleans kennels, feeds animals, provides love, facilitates volunteers and helps raise the funds needed to “keep the doors open” at the Maclean-Cameron Animal Adoption Center.

The contribution of money can help make sure that we can assist the person who has, with the best interests of their beloved cat or dog, surrendered the animal to the Center so that it can have the care it deserves.

Our non-profit organization exists because of a community need: temporary shelter, care, and love for homeless animals and the facilitation of sustained adoptions for these voiceless cats and dogs. The need for your continued support is real. At the current time, we receive no tax funds and operate solely on donations and the fees we charge for our services (adoptions fees, surrender fees, stray redemption fees, education course fees, etc.). These do not begin to cover our expenses. We need Y-O-U to help support the caring of homeless cats and dogs in our community and the providing of learning opportunities that will help future generations improve animal welfare.

On behalf of the past, current and future cats and dogs finding temporary shelter and love at the Maclean-Cameron Animal Adoption Center, I thank y-o-u! The need for your continued support is real! Please give today!

Esperanza Pinocci has been helping out at the Center for the past two years and has really made an impact! She loves walking into the Center to greetings of happy faces and wagging tails.

“I have so much love for pets and I wish every pet had a loving home. I am so happy when I finally see them go home with a family!”

Two Paws Up!GENEROUS VOLUNTEERS GIVING THEIR TIME

It all started when their daughter, Adriana, wanted do to something to give back. Adriana ended up being the first recipient of the Youth Generosity Award and asks for donations for the Center for her birthday every year. As a family, they have gone above and beyond with their support of the Center. They walk dogs, pet cats, donate to the silent auctions and provide photography services of the animals and in support of fundraising events and so, so much more. They even adopted their dog, Ninkasi, from the Center!

“There is an overwhelming sense of peace and fulfillment. We are able to come together as a family and give back to the animals in ways that make all of us happy.” - Catherine Mertz

“Change” Their WorldEmergency Medical Fund

Did you know that every year many stray cats and dogs arrive at the Maclean-Cameron Animal Adoption Center in need of medical treatment beyond the basic our budget allows? Please help us pay this expense by contributing to our Emergency Medical Fund!

Stop by the Center today to pick up a FREE growler! You can use it as a place to collect the money you plan to contribute! Do you know of a friend, or business or family member who may also want to help? Pick up a free growler for them, too! For those of you who already have a “Change” Their World Growler - the program concept is the same but the funds are now designated for emergency medical costs.

HAPPY ADOPTION TAILS

It was love at first sight for Emily and Ira Nieman. As soonas they walked into the Center and saw Remington, they knew he was the dog for them.

“We are grateful and blessed to have adopted Remi,” Emily said. “He has changed our lives forever!”

Remi was a shy and sweet dog while at the Center, always patiently waiting for his forever family to come find him. Now Remi is enjoying the good life with lots of fetch, long walks and fun car rides. He loves his family and human sibling - but his best friend is his fur-sister, Riley.

“We love his personality, smarts and of course his good looks. We can’t thank you enough for allowing him to become a part of our family!”

One of our own volunteers, Sherry Kauffman, knows first hand how hard it is to NOT want to adopt every animal that comes through our doors.

“I was hoping to downsize, actually,” Sherry laughed. “But I ended up adopting two cats within a few months of each other!”

First, Sherry adopted Midnight (now Amos) who was a sweet and mellow cat and lonely after his brother was adopted without him.

Then, there was young and mischevious Chester (now Sami) whose energy has definitely brought some liveliness into Sherry’s home. Even though Sherry was worried about having a kitten in the home, she just couldn’t walk away from him. She had already gotten to know him while volunteering in the cat room.

“Sami would just run up our clothes and make us all laugh. I was hoping he’d get adopted but nobody ever came for him...so I did!”

Sami and Amos now enjoy a warm and social lifestyle and love having such good companions in both the human and feline variety!

“GOOD” NEWS!

In February 2018, we celebrated the end of our most recent

capital campaign:

“GOOD” - Get Out Of Debt

The Maclean-Cameron Animal Adoption Center is a state-of-the-art institution dedicated to the adoption of animals and the education of their new family members! Building such an incredible facility required the acquisition of financing.

As a result of this campaign, we were able to pay off our loan debt of approximately $1.5 million in just over a year.

Thanks to all of our generous donors!

Gene Thayer, GOOD Campaign Chair, thanks the crowd during the campaign

completion celebration.

David and Tanya Cameron were awarded the Outstanding Philanthropist Award on Thursday, November 8, 2018 by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (Montana Chapter).

The Camerons first gave to the the Animal Foundation of Great Falls (opened as the Maclean Animal Adoption Center as a DBA of the Foundation in 2015) in February of 2005. From February 2005 to April 2017, David and Tanya’s gifts totaled approximately $175,000.  Then, in January of 2018, they made a gift as a family, in conjunction with Dave’s sister, Nancy Cameron, of nearly $580,000 to our GOOD (Get Out of Debt) capital campaign. As a result of this gift, the Maclean Animal Adoption Center was renamed Maclean-Cameron Animal Adoption Center.

The Cameron’s impact is colossal and illustrates the positive power of philanthropy. They lead by example through their giving and demonstrate how citizens can effect social change. Dave and Tanya are wonderful people who have applied their hearts and minds to making the world a better place, inspiring current and future generations to function in humanity.  Dave and Tanya’s giving shows an awareness of and commitment to helping with various interconnected societal needs as they relate to basic human needs, education and animal welfare.

The committee, chaired by Jody Jakes, worked hard to plan the Maclean-Cameron Animal Adoption Center’s signature fundraising event, held on April 21, 2018 at the Best Western Heritage Inn. The 14th Annual Fur Ball attendees enjoyed hors d'oeuvres during Yappy Hour, live music, a gourmet plated dinner, a card blitz raffle for two round-trip tickets on Delta airlines and a wide variety of silent and live auction items.

WAYS TO GIVE

10 www.macleananimaladoptioncenter.org | (406) 727-7387

Thank you to all that have donated and supported the Maclean-Cameron Animal Adoption Center!

From the time the Center was a dream, to now - our donors and supporters remain the lifeblood of this organization.

I have been witness to so many acts of uncommon generosity, from the kids at North Middle School

Fundraising Committee Chair

A Note from our Fundraising Committee Chairman

who raised money to buy a paver many years ago to the twelve year old girl that set a goal to raise a million dollars for our facility, to the board mem-bers who have committed their time and effort to further the cause, to the supporters who have passed away that thought of us in their estate plan starting with Margaret J. Maclean. I have been touched by the support of the GOOD (Get Out Of Debt) campaign that helped us retire the bank debt and start a new chapter in the history of the Center. As I look at all the naming rights as I walk around our facility, I am moved to continue to work to “keep our doors open.” For every donation - whatever the amount of money or time - I am grateful. THANK YOU!

Looking forward, I am focused on two very exciting new initiatives - the “Change” Their World Animal Medical Fund (which you can read about on page 5) and the Grand 1000 Capital Campaign. Through the Grand 1000, we seek 1000 donations over a two year period that average 1000 dollars per donation or 1 million dollars every two years. Every donation toward the Grand 1000 is important no matter the size of the donation. What is important is 1000 names of support for our Center and the work that we provide for the animals and our community.

I’m excited to start 2019 off strong with these exciting new initiatives and I know that they will bring great things to the Center.

Through the Grand 1000 campaign, we seek 1,000 donations averaging $1,000.

Our good work is not accomplished without expenses. Currently, MCAAC does not raise enough money through the services we provide to cover our operational costs.

We rely on donations from our generous and supportive community to keep our doors open! We need your support to continue our work with the homeless cats, kittens, dogs

and puppies of Great Falls and North Central Montana.

Our planned giving program enhances the long-term stability of the MCAAC by providing income to meet the increasing demand to save the lives of cats and dogs. We invite you to invest in our future by joining. When you submit a Planned Giving Notification form to us, you become qualified to enroll in our Legacy Society. Gifts may be in the form of a provision in a will, an outright gift, or as a beneficiary of a policy or financial account.

The Legacy Society: The Legacy Society honors individuals who have made provisions in their estate plans to help homeless pets beyond their lifetimes. Enrolling in this program allows you to designate the Maclean-Cameron Animal Adoption Center to care for your pets and help them find new homes should they outlive you.
