• Way to engage virtually, globally with ANYONE you want
• Integrated into our world, language (tweets, hashtags)
• Unique language
• Extremely transparent – for all to see
• In the moment, fast moving
• Engaging and participatory

• Go to www.twitter.com
• Create a login/user name (not your handle) and password*
• Create your “handle” (profile name) (limit 15 characters) Ex:@hopewarshaw, @aadediabetes, @cdcdiabetes, @jjdiabetesinst, @eatrightpro)
• Choose and upload a photo of you, your logo
• Complete bio (160 characters, make them count!)
• Create and upload your background
• Add your website address or blog

1. Choose your Twitter “handle”
2. Create your brief bio
3. Take, select and upload a photo (headshot, logo)

• Represents you and how you expect to engage on Twitter
• Is still available – do a search
• Professional (easy to remember, no numbers)
• Concise (make your up to 15 characters count!)
• Ex:
• @amdiabetesassn – not @americandiabetesassociation
• @diabeticpsych – Mark Heyman, PhD, CDE
• @melissajoyRD – Melissa Dobbins, MS, RDN, CDE

• Develop offline, then upload
• Limit 160 characters
• Keep it professional, but revealing and concise

• Sits within background
• Choose a professional photo. Headshot best because they represent you and your personality
• Don’t leave an EGGHEAD!
• Businesses can use an easy to read logo or representative design
• Need to change photo?

Tweet: < 280 characters*
• Make characters count. Don’t have to use all. Brief is better!
• Spelling important, grammar not (leave out meaningless words)
Hashtag: number sign (#) in front of a word
• Ex: #diabetes, #jjdiabetesinst
• Why use? To follow, track, engage, respond

• Retweet - share same tweet with your followers and quote tweet
