all of our new members!
Please make sure to stop and
introduce yourself when you
see a new face.
I hope you are all getting
excited about our Friday night
dinners! Jeffrey has been
working on the menus. Be
sure to try out our Friday
Night Couples events and stay

From the Manager
A s the month of May arrives, it normally will bring
more predictable weather which will allow us to es-
tablish a more regular mowing schedule. Repeat
mowings are integral to great course playability. Without daily
greens mowing, we can’t achieve the smooth well-paced turf
surface we desire. The same situation is also applicable to our
fairways and approaches; they need to be mowed repeatedly in
different directions to
have the density we need.
Even though the
course is in excellent
condition, we will begin
some cultural practices
that will temporarily dis-
rupt playing surfaces for
long term improvement. A deep tine greens aerification is
scheduled for Tuesday, May 31. We have had excellent suc-
cess in the past in improving the air/water/soil interchange with
little impact on the way our greens putt. When the weather and
schedule allows, we also will aerate our tees and fairways with
a solid slicing tine. We hope to relieve some compaction with
this process along with allowing much better oxygen and water
availability to the root zone. We also will begin to brush the
greens on a regular basis to stand up the turf and eliminate
some stemmy runners. We also will begin some regular verti-
cal mowing of the greens. This action severs the plant stolons
and enhances vertical plant growth over its normal horizontal
growth.
Please do your part to keep the course conditions great by
replacing or filling divots, smoothing tracks in the sand, being
responsible with golf cars and carts and most important of all,
fix ballmarks. So far our ballmark repair rate has been poor—
you can do better.
DDDDIDIDIDID YOUYOUYOUYOU KNOWKNOWKNOWKNOW: The Carmel
Urban Forestry Committee is
giving away tree seedlings at the
Carmel Farmers Market on May
7th in celebration of Arbor Day.
Hybrid Butternut, Pecan and
Norway Spruce will be available.

I hope this newsletter reaches you in good health and spir-
its. Spring weather has been up and down to start this
year. In April we had above normal temperatures but lots
of rain. However, the golf course is in great shape. It is al-
ways a struggle this time of year to keep up with regular
mowing with all the rain we have had this spring. The upside
to all this is the weather can only get better!
Please remember now that Opening Day has taken place
the dress code is in effect for members and guests. Please
remind your guests of the dress code before they arrive at the
club. Denim is allowed in the clubhouse; however, denim is
not permitted on the practice areas or the golf course. Jim
always has a wide variety of the newest golf apparel available
in the golf shop.
As we continue to get further into the golf season there are
plenty of fun events to get involved in. A few upcoming
events: member guest day, demo day and golf clinics. Please
check the events page on the website and look for emails for
upcoming events and clinics. Remember to get out of the of-
fice for lunch and come to your club to eat and practice, what
a great way to take a break from your busy day. Chef Jeffrey
always has a delicious lunch awaiting you and the driving
range is open Tuesday through Sunday.
Hopefully this month we will be taking out two large ash
trees on holes number 10 and 11. Both of these trees have
been killed by the emerald ash borer. It has been too wet to
get the large equipment out on the course. We will be resur-
facing cart path on hole #7 this season. Also, we have green
aerification scheduled for Tuesday, May 31.
Welcome to all the new members and a big thanks to their
sponsors! Please remember to pass along our membership
info to any potential members. If you have a potential mem-
ber, please let me know and I will be happy to contact them.
Please come out to your club for Mother’s Day. All moms
receive a flower from the golf shop. I am looking forward to
a great May at Twin Lakes. I wish all the mothers a happy
and healthy Mother’s Day!
