From its position on Castle Rock, the historic fortress dominates the skyline of Edinburgh, and has hundreds of years of history to tell. Students will see the Prisons of War which previously housed convicts from across the world, and the oldest crown jewels within the British Isles.

Students will join a school following the British National Curriculum, and will experience what it is like to be taught in a London Academy and a prestigious Cambridge school. They will spend one and a half days at the London school, and a full day at the Cambridge school.

- 15 hours of English language tuition per week with professional teachers and no more than 15 students per class

- Placement test, academic report and certificate

Course content:

Each student attending a summer course will be given a placement test.

This test allows the Director of Studies to place students in a class most suited to their current level of English, taking into account factors such as age, maturity and any specific learning needs. Our aim is to give students the best possible learning environment to make real progress with their English.

A balanced learning environment

Our approach is topic-based and cross-curricular so students can learn and have fun whilst using the English language. Students will engage in:

- Drama activities which improve speaking and pronunciation

- Word games to expand their vocabulary

In addition, students also have lessons based on upcoming activities and excursions to give them background knowledge of the landmarks they will visit.

Syllabus:


Activity programmeTwin’s activity programme has been designed to ensure every student will have fun while practising their English. Local visits, treasure hunts in the town centre, sports and team building challenges led by our activity leaders will keep students entertained.

Students at residential centres will also enjoy evening activities seven days a week, with discos, talent contests, cinema nights and quizzes which will keep them busy! Students at homestay centres will have evening activities twice a week and will spend the rest of the evenings with their new host family.

Students will also go on one full day excursion per week to a popular locations such as London, Brighton, Oxford or the Isle of Wight. This gives students a great chance to explore famous cities, practise their English in a real life setting, and enjoy British culture.

Students at our centres in London will be enrolled onto our special ‘Discover London programme’ (see page 23).

The unique discover London programme is made up of alternate full days of classes and visits to London sights. This packed programme gives students more opportunities to see London’s famous landmarks during their stay!

Twin activity leaders will guide groups around five set walking tours, so students can see all of London’s most popular sights (based on a two week stay). Our centre on England’s south coast offers students fantastic residential accommodation and top learning facilities at Portsmouth University. Students will be accommodated in Rees Hall, a 3 star accommodation building just 250m from the beach, voted the best UK University accommodation in 2008.
