OPENING WORSHIP (Please stand if able) TO GOD BE THE GLORY

To God be the glory; great things He has done! So loved He the world that He gave us his Son; Who yielded his life, an atonement for sin, And opened the life gate that all may go in.

Chorus Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the earth hear his Voice! Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice! O come to the Father through Jesus the Son, And give Him the glory; great things He has done.

O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood, To every believer the promise of God; The vilest offender who truly believes, That moment from Jesus a pardon receives.

Great things He has taught us, great things He has done; And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son. But purer and higher and greater will be Our wonder, our transport when Jesus we see.

THE ACCLAMATION

Celebrant Blessed be God: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. People And blessed be his Kingdom, now and for ever. Amen. THE COLLECT FOR PURITY All Almighty God, to You all hearts are open, all desires known, and from You no secrets are hid. Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love You, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE GLORIA (Sung) Glory to God in the highest and peace to his people on earth. Lord God, heavenly King, Almighty God and Father, We worship You, we give You thanks, we praise You for your glory, Glory to God! Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, You take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us. You are seated at the right hand of the Father; receive our prayer, receive our prayer. For You alone are the Holy One, You alone are the Lord, You alone are the Most High; Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father, In the glory of God the Father, Amen, Amen.

THE COLLECT OF THE DAY Celebrant The Lord be with you. People And with your spirit.

Celebrant Let us Pray. Keep your Church, O Lord, by your perpetual mercy; and because without you the frailty of our nature causes us to fall, keep us from all things hurtful, and lead us to all things profitable for our salvation; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

THE FIRST LESSON (The people sit) PROVERBS 9:1-6 Reader The Word of the Lord. People Thanks be to God.

PSALM 147:1-12 (Please stand if able)

Praise the Lord! For it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant, and a song of praise is fitting. The Lord builds up Jerusalem; He gathers the outcasts of Israel. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. He determines the number of the stars; He gives to all of them their names. Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure. The Lord lifts up the humble; He casts the wicked to the ground. Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving; make melody to our God on the lyre! He covers the heavens with clouds; He prepares rain for the earth; He makes grass grow on the hills. He gives to the beasts their food, and to the young ravens that cry. His delight is not in the strength of the horse, nor his pleasure in the legs of a man, but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him, in those who hope in his steadfast love.

Page 5: TWELFTH WEEK AFTER PENTECOST

Celebrant The Gospel of the Lord. People Praise to You, Lord Christ.

THE SERMON: “For the Life of the World” Fr. Greg McComas

THE NICENE CREED (Please stand if able)

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, visible and invisible.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through Him all things were made. For us and for our salvation He came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered death and was buried. On the third day He rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his Kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

Reader Let us pray for the whole state of Christ’s Church and the world. Inspire your universal Church by your Spirit,

Reader Lord, in your mercy: People Hear our prayer.

Reader Lord, in your mercy: People Hear our prayer. We ask You to rule the hearts of all who govern us, especially Joe our President and Gretchen our Governor.

Reader Lord, in your mercy: People Hear our prayer. Grant your heavenly grace to all people, to hear and trust your holy Word.

Reader Lord, in your mercy: People Hear our prayer.

Reader You are invited to add your own prayers at this time. Celebrant Heavenly Father, grant these our prayers for Jesus Christ’s sake, our only Mediator and Advocate. Amen.

THE CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION OF SIN (The people sit or kneel if able) Celebrant Let us humbly confess our sins to Almighty God. All Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against You in

thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Page 8: TWELFTH WEEK AFTER PENTECOST

8

Celebrant Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who in his great mercy has promised forgiveness of sins to all those who sincerely repent and with true faith turn to Him, have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE COMFORTABLE WORDS Celebrant For God so loved the world, that He gave his only Son, that whoever believes in

Him should not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16

THE PEACE (Please stand and greet each other from a distance!)

Celebrant The Peace of the Lord be always with you. People And with your spirit.

Then may all the living with praise and thanksgiving Give honor to Christ and his Name that we bear.

THE DISMISSAL

Celebrant Alleluia, Alleluia! Go in peace to love and serve the Lord. People Thanks be to God! Alleluia, alleluia.

POSTLUDE COME THOU FOUNT OF EVERY BLESSING

Come, Thou Fount of ev'ry blessing, tune my heart to sing thy grace! Streams of mercy, never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise. Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above: Praise the mount, I'm fixed upon it, mount of thy redeeming love. Here I raise mine Ebenezer, hither by thy help I'm come, And I hope, by thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home. Jesus sought me when a stranger wand'ring from the fold of God; He, to rescue me from danger, interposed his precious blood. O to grace how great a debtor daily I'm constrained to be! Let thy goodness, like a fetter, bind my wand'ring heart to Thee. Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it; prone to leave the God I love! Here's my heart, O take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above!
