I Balzini breaks many of the rules. For a top Tuscan estate, it is not in a famous appellation, being just a fewkilometres outside of the boundary of Chianti Classico. It could label suitably composed wines as Chianti ColliFiorentini DOCG (no less) but it has chosen not to. It has also decided to major on the so-called internationalvarieties – Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for all the top wines – with Sangiovese in a supporting role. For arelatively small estate (13 hectares), it also keeps old vintages which shows confidence in the wines’ ability todevelop in the bottle. Finally, it has marketed its wines in a very contemporary way with a series of colourthemes rather than the more traditional place names or grape varieties.

I Balzini consulting wine maker is Barbara Tamburini. This is a top name and make it clear that there is great vinous ambition here, not just routine wine making at a country retreat…

It’s a long time already that we work the vineyards

exclusive to other producers. To know other realities

and experiment different points of view helps to

sharpen our awareness. In our cellar the vinification

is carried out in stainless steel tanks and in barriques

fulled by hand and we let macerate on the skins for

at least twenty days. After racking the wine is ready

for the French and Slavonia oak barrels of 12 HL.

Here the wine will rest for a minimum of 24 months,

after which, the passion and the effort that we spent

in each furrow and bottle will make our wine unique.

There was a time when Brunello di Montalcino was a precious gift for few intimate, lucky friends.

At that time, more than the wine, another treasure made the fortune of this hill only. Just here

there was an important onyx quarry, thanks to which exquisite artefacts and prestigious

architectural elements were built, such as the porch of Sant’Antimo. This winery is the intimate

expression of our connection with the territory, with its traditions and rules.

Here we grew up and here we live, trying to convey to our children the joy of these values. We

work our land every day with passion and perseverance. Nothing is left to chance, we care of our

vineyards by hand to the bottle, avoiding herbicides and pesticides, patiently waiting for their

fruit. The result is a harmonious wine that is very appreciated by consumers.

Simone Nannetti, is very passionate about his land and committed to make the bestwine possible, continuously improving his products in which he believes so much. Atthe age of fourteen, he started working and gained farming experience in thevineyard, learning about the vines and growing cycle. He learned to treat them, toprune them, to do grafts. He believes that his wines are the pure expression of theterritory where the Sangiovese grape grew.

This passion and the high scores obtained with his wines gave him the possibility towork in collaboration with GUCCI. Together they propose a bottle made with a veryexclusive ceramic label with Gold inside and an engraved label for the GUCCIMUSEUM.

Flattering scores by famed wine-critic Robert Parker recently propelled Canneto into the elite of Montepulciano’s leading producer. However, Canneto has been noted as one of the finest growers of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano since the early decades of the XX century.

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva and Nobile Montepulciano age in a mix of Slavonia oak casks (30-50 Hl) and French oak tonneaux (500 lt): 2 years of cellar ageing for the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Docg, starting January 1st following the harvest, and three years for the Riserva.

Canneto’s Nobile di Montepulciano and Rosso di Montepulciano offer a delicious style of Sangiovese, combining structure and dry-extract with a fruit forward, hedonistic, finely balanced mouthfeel.
